We Are In The "We'll Believe It When We See It" Camp. The Only Reason Would Be To Convince Americans That Deportations Would Be A Mess

The Department of Homeland Security is readying for raids to deport hundreds of illegal immigrants who have crossed into the country illegally across the southern border, The Washington Post reports.
The nationwide effort by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents is set to begin as early as January. Agents would go after only adults and children who have been ordered deported by immigration judges.

DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson has been pushing for the deportations, the Post said, though the move has been controversial inside the Obama White House. The reason behind Johnson's move is a recent spike in illegal immigrants from Central America and a recent court ruling saying families must be released more quickly from detention centers.

Violence in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras – as well as a recent drought – has pushed more people from those nations to flee to the United States.

Immigration advocates were critical of the decision, with Gregory Chen of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, saying, "This administration has never acknowledged the truth: that these families are refugees seeking asylum who should be given humanitarian protection rather than being detained or rounded up."
Meanwhile, groups seeking stricter immigration measures were skeptical.

"I'll believe it when I see it," Mark Krikorian of the Center for Immigration Studies told the Post. "It’s a drop in the bucket compared to the number they’ve admitted into the country. If you have photogenic raids on a few dozen illegal families and that’s the end of it, it’s just for show."

What The Heck Does The NBA Have To Do With Gun Violence, Except With Their Own Players. Will This Backfire, We Sure Do Hope So!

The National Basketball Association has joined with former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's anti-gun group in a partnership negotiated by the filmmaker Spike Lee to push for an end to gun violence.

"We know far too many people who have been caught up in gun violence in this country," Kathleen Behrens, the NBA's president of social responsibility and player programs, told The New York Times. "And we can do something about it."
The 30-second spots, to run during high-profile NBA games on Christmas Day, are being paid for by Bloomberg's group, Everytown for Gun Safety. They will feature league players focusing on shooting victims, while containing no policy recommendations.

The words "gun control" are never mentioned in the ads, the Times reports.

For instance, Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors describes hearing of a 3-year-old's shooting: "My daughter Riley's that age," he said in one of the ads.

In another spot, Chris Paul of the Los Angeles Clippers recalls the advice he learned as a child: "My parents used to say, 'A bullet doesn't have a name on it.'"

Bloomberg's established his group last year to counter the National Rifle Association and to push for expanded gun background checks, as well as for stronger penalties for gun trafficking and for bans on gun sales to individuals convicted of domestic abuse, the Times reports.

The NRA has strongly attacked the Bloomberg group for its vigorous assault on the Second Amendment.

The arrangement comes during a year of heavy gun violence and mass shootings throughout the nation, including in Chicago — where 487 lives have been lost to gun violence so far this year.

Lee's latest film, "Chi-Raq," directly addresses gun violence and is set in the city's South Side. He is a member of Everytown's creative council.

"Because of the NRA, politicians and the gun manufacturers, we're dying under that tyranny," Lee told the Times in explaining why he brokered the deal between the NBA and Bloomberg's group.
He said that the time had come for "common sense anti-gun laws."

President Barack Obama praised the effort Wednesday on Twitter:

Is Hillary Seeing 2008 Happen Again? Will Sanders Stomp Her In Iowa And New Hampshire. Couldn't Happen To A Nicer Lady!

Dick Morris: Hillary's Money Email Shows 'All Hell Is Breaking Loose'

A Hillary Clinton email Wednesday seeking to quickly raise $2 million from supporters because she might "lose" the Democratic presidential contests in Iowa and New Hampshire "indicates that all hell is breaking loose," political strategist Dick Morris told Newsmax TV.
"For her to be in fact conceding five weeks before that she's going to lose those states, her polling must be disastrous in those states," Morris told "Newsmax Prime" host Ric Blackwell. Iowa holds its caucuses on Feb. 1, while the New Hampshire primary is set for the following week, on Feb. 9. Hillary for America sent the email Wednesday afternoon.

Morris is the co-author of The New York Times best-seller,"Power Grab: Obama's Dangerous Plan for a One-Party Nation."

He told Blackwell that Clinton could come back from losses in those states to her closest challenger, Sen. Bernie Sanders, with the South Carolina primary on Feb. 27 because of the state's large African-American vote.

"It's basically an all-black primary, mainly black," he said. "But then in Nevada and some of the other states, she's going to have a tough time.
"I would think that Bernie would be tied with her in the national polling after he won those first two states. And it really indicates that this Democratic primary is going to be highly competitive.

"For Hillary to be hedging her bets like that is crazy — and it also indicates that she got clobbered in that last debate," Morris said. "She should've stayed in the bathroom."
