Conservative Marching Orders

With the catastrophic, demonically inspired ObamaCare verdict in the Supreme Court, we now see very clearly what we as patriotic conservatives must do.  There can be NO goal more important than replacing every Democrat and RINO in the upcoming election.  If they are not voting our way, they must go!

For way too long we conservatives have tried to get along with these unpatriotic scum sucking Democrats and RINOs and all we get it a knife in the back.  You cannot work with people who do not have the best interests in the country in mind. So let the media call us radicals. A couple hundred years ago, like 1776,  the British called the Founders the same name!  Make our day, call us radicals.

Ideas that we need to put on our list (in no order of importance--they all are:
    1. Repeal ObamaCare
    2. Balance the Budget
    3. Secure the Borders
    4. Repeal Dream Act
    5. Expel illegal immigrants
    6. Audit the Fed
    7. Investigate the Bank Bailouts and Indict Congressmen/women, Bankers, and other miscreants who benefited from the bailouts before, during and after the implosion.
    8. Pass legislation prohibiting public funds to bail out any company--private or public. If they fail, allow normal bankruptcy procedures to occur.
   9. Pass Federal Term limits
   10. Revive Glass-Stegal legislation.

These are our listed goals, what are yours?

We want your input. You can email us at tom.conservativemusings1@gmail.com or comment on this blog.  We will make sure your ideas are forwarded to the New Congress that will be seated in January along with President Romney.

It is up to you. Are you up to the task?

  1. 1. Repeal ObamaCare. NO! It is the for-profit insurance system that is responsible for the high costs and poor outcomes of our health care system compared to every other rich country in the world. I showed you the comparative OECD data last year. We will never agree on this. Peace.

        2. Balance the Budget. Okay. When and how? I would favor something along the lines of Simpson-Bowles. My goal would be to get revenue and outlays balanced with both around 20% of GDP. That could be done in 10 years. Ryan takes it clear out to 2030 to get to balance, and Obama even longer!

        3. Secure the Borders. Okay. How? Build the wall? Add more border patrol? In principle, we agree, but when you get down to specifics, there are trade-offs in getting to the optimal level spending on this.

        4. Repeal Dream Act. Huh? Congress has not passed it! But I agree that it is a bad idea.

        5. Expel illegal immigrants. Okay. But this is like "secure the border." The U.S. has deported more illegals in the last few years than any time in history. As a practical matter, it is not possible to locate and deport 12 million immigrants. Some of them are picking the vegetables and fruit you eat. The focus should be on get the criminals first. I don't support amnesty for any of them, but the problem needs prioritization and management of resource allocation.

        6. Audit the Fed. Absolutely! But that is just the start. We need to get the Fed policies oriented away from saving the banks from their crimes and scandals.

        7. Investigate the Bank Bailouts and Indict Congressmen/women, Bankers, and other miscreants who benefited from the bailouts before, during and after the implosion. Right!

        8. Pass legislation prohibiting public funds to bail out any company--private or public. If they fail, allow normal bankruptcy procedures to occur. Agreed.

       9. Pass Federal Term limits. Agreed. Good luck getting it through Congress!

       10. Revive Glass-Stegal legislation. Agree 100%. But we need much more. The bank lobbyists have blocked most efforts at banking reform. They are still doing their old tricks. The CFTC should be given a firm deadline to get the regulations of OTC derivatives rules done, and they should all be fired if they miss the deadline. The foot-dragging is ridiculous. I am surprised you haven't hammered Obama on this one. It just proves my point that the banks own all the politicians except Ron Paul.

    11. Constitutional amendment to allow campaign finance reform. Begin by passing the Disclose Act to at least get some transparency into the system. Money -- especially secret money -- corrupts politicians, and since 2010, we are in a new era. Go to opensecrets.com and look at the historical data on spending by outside groups in elections. The Supreme Court decision on Montana last week was disgraceful. If you are serious about states rights, you should post something on that.

    12. Get our military out of Afghanistan in 6 months. And cut the bloated Pentagon budget. That is already set to happen at the end of the year, but I bet they will find some way to avoid it. How about a compromise: We simply match China dollar-for-dollar in defense spending for the next 20 years? That would save a fortune in waste. Adopt Ron Paul's non-interventionist foreign policy.

    13. Pass the jobs bill. Read Paul Krugman's new book.

    14. End all subsidies to agriculture, energy, etc. Let the free market determine production levels and prices.

    15. Invest in upgrading our educational system, especially in science and technology. I would pour the money saved from downsizing the military into this effort. I would also change the way public schools are funded.

  2. David,

The problem with Obamacare is that as it now stands,it will be the avenue under which we will be taxed for all sorts of things. If you eat hamburgers, a tax; if you eat tofu, no tax; if you eat at a fancy restaurant or a greasy spoon--unless it meets certain dietary requirement, a tax; if you drive a non-electric car, a tax; if you do not have solar power on your house, a tax; if your family occupies more than 350 square feet per person, a tax. It will be a tax on everything that government, in its wisdom wants you to do. You lose the right to choose to live your life the way you want to live it.

Did you hear that Obama vetoed the defense appropriations bill because it did not include major increases in the cost of health insurance for our military personnel. Bad!

I disagree with the jobs bill--government should not be involved in creating jobs--that is what the private sector does best. Create a growing economy and the problem with jobs goes away. However, with bailing out companies and banks, that never occurs.

What subsidies does energy get? They get depletion allowances which is much like depreciation on a building. That is a reasonable deduction. What else?

Agriculture subsidies were meant to keep the cost of food down and to protect the family farmer. It has gotten so bad that even Buffet's son gets subsidies. That was not the intent. Another problem with programs that have a "good intention."

As far as education goes, we need to get it back to local control. If your school is bad, so be it. Fix it. No more dollars should be spent on education. We already spend more than any other country, get poorer results and have a failed, not failing, system. If you can't get it back to local control, extend the year to 12 months with three three week breaks; disband the unions, do away with teacher tenure to name a couple.

  3. The problem will all "slippery slope" arguments is the assumption that we can't make any distinctions. In this case, the assumption is that we can't distinguish between a reasonable tax and an unreasonable tax. From the libertarian perspective, I think the distinction here is clear. You can eat hamburgers at a greasy spoon, drive a gas-guzzler vehicle, don't insulate your house, etc., and you will be the person suffering the consequences of your personal decision. On the other hand, if you can afford health insurance (perhaps with some financial assistance through ACA), but instead choose to be a free-rider who uses the emergency room for medical care, then your personal decision imposes costs on the rest of us in the form of higher insurance premiums and medical fees. One way or another (insurance or tax), you should take some personal financial responsibility for your own healthcare commensurate with your financial resources. That is why the tax formula in ACA is based on income. Those below a certain threshold will be exempt from the tax. On the other hand, a guy with a $75,000 income should be expected to contribute something to his own healthcare rather than shifting the cost to us. Not only is that fair and reasonable, it works. By virtually all population health statistics, Europe, Canada, Japan, Taiwan, etc. have better population health stats at half the per capita costs compared to the U.S. That is largely because we have 50 million uninsured and they have some form of universal healthcare.

Obama has not vetoed the defense appropriations bill. It hasn't passed yet. The veto threat was because it came in over budget as agreed under the BCA last year. The TRICARE fees were just one of several issues. That is one of the changes that pushed it over budget. Also, the Global Hawk Block 30 drone, C-27J cargo planes and the C-23 aircraft were dropped from the Pentagon's proposed budget, but the House put that stuff back in the bill. That's the problem. The defense contractor lobby, as usual, is getting Congress to appropriate money for weapons systems that the Defense Dept. says it doesn't need or want! The defense budget is some kind of sacred cow to these people.

In a depression, the government infrastructure projects can get people back to work and stimulate economic growth. That got us out of the Great Depression, and it could get us out of this one. Check out Krugman's book sometime.

There are several different types of subsidies to oil and natural gas companies besides depletion allowance. It is about $4 billion per year. Ron Paul would end all this and let the free market function. I don't think he has ever voted for a subsidy to any industry,

On education, the U.S. ranks 37th in the world on education spending as a percentage of GDP. But I agree that reform is also needed at the local level. I want to see all kids get an equal opportunity for a quality education, and the way we have historically funded education at the local level doesn't support that goal. Affluent neighborhoods generate more property tax dollars for their school than inner city school districts. I would take all property tax revenue in the SMSA and distribute it so that all kids have equal resources on a per capita basis. Politically, that is almost impossible to do.

  4. I agree Tom. It's time we took the fight to Washington. Patriots need to straighten out this country.
