Government Intentions Good, Outcome Bad

Government always get things wrong. Yes, always. It might not occur right away, but in the long run, it is always wrong.  It's intentions might have been  honorable, however, man is not smart enough to visualize all the effects of legislation.  Whether it was the Community Reinvestment Act which went on to cause the mortgage meltdown of 2008 or the requirement that ethanol must be used for gasoline which ends up driving up food prices. The latter story is covered by the Wall Street Journal in the link below.

Today many Americans believe that government is the solution to all our our problems.  We think that is folly.  The USSR tried to manage the economy and ended up starving millions. Those in charge of the US economy are not smarter than the Russians or any other bureaucrat who ever tried to plan the future.

There are only two jobs where the practitioner  can be wrong every time and keep their job. Those jobs are meteorologists and economists! How many times have we seen  economists make different forecasts, all of which turn out wrong.  We cannot predict the future and trying to do so is folly. There are just too many variables and nature has a way of making us look very silly.

We  believe in less government, less regulation and a return to caveat emptor.

Conservative Tom
