Get used to hearing the name David A Clarke Jr.
Sheriff Clarke, who is the Sheriff of Milwaukee county Wisconsin is one of the most outspoken and most visible 2nd amendment supporters in the nation.
Clarke made the news in early 2013, when he aired a commercial on local television that advised Milwaukee county residents to purchase their own firearms to protect themselves.
An excerpt from the commercial reads:
I’m Sheriff David Clarke and I want to talk to you about something personal: your safety. It’s no longer a spectator sport; I need you in the game.
But are you ready?
With officers laid off and furloughed, simply calling 911 and waiting is no longer your best option. You can beg for mercy from a violent criminal, hide under the bed, or you can fight back.
But are you prepared?
Consider taking a certified safety course in handling a firearm so you can defend yourself until we get there.
And now he’s in the news again for another great reason.
This past Friday night Clarke one was one of the keynote speakers at the NRA’s annual convention.
In his speech, Clarke vociferously defended the constitution, even going so far as to take issue with former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens and his assertion that the 2nd amendment ought to read…
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms when serving in the militia shall not be infringed.
Clarke of course had a deeply impassioned reply to the idea that the 2nd amendment ought to be changed, saying:
“My reaction was, ‘What! Just what part of shall not be infringed does Justice Stevens not understand?’”
He even went as far as to say if the amendment was to be changed the words “Keep your hands off our guns, dammit” should be added.
If you’d like to see the full speech, you can watch it right here.
Clarke is a popular figure in the pro-2nd amendment movement.
Honored by organizations such as Oathkeepers, he continues to be a beacon of hope for all who who want their 2nd amendment rights to be upheld and preserved.
