The Pit authentic barbeque restaurant proudly displays a “no concealed weapons” sign on its front door.
The store owner insists guns aren’t allowed in the store.
Is that a good idea? Let’s think about it…
As if having $1,000s of dollars in cash on the premises isn’t enough of an incentive for would-be thieves to break in, add a sign that clearly states guns aren’t allowed in the store you’ve got what amounts to an open invitation for a robbery.
Apparently, this sign is what gave three thieves the courage to break into the restaurant since they knew their actions wouldn’t be met with gunfire.
As reported by ABC11.com:
Police are searching for three suspects involved in an armed robbery at Durham’s newly-opened barbecue restaurant, The Pit, at 321 W. Geer Street.
Authorities said just before 9 p.m. Sunday, three men wearing hoodies entered the restaurant through the back doors with pistols and forced several staff members to lie on the floor.
The bandits assaulted two employees during the crime, but they were not seriously injured.
Worst yet, the restaurant wasn’t empty when the robbery took place. Patrons who were dining in the establishment had to make an exit to remain safe.
Since the restaurant proudly displays their “No guns allowed sign” in the front window, it actually prevents any of the diners from legally carrying their weapons into the store should they need them for self defense.
What’s abundantly clear is that signs aren’t going to stop gun violence.
Rather than prevent gun violence, it actually extends an open invitation for criminals to break the law without fear of consequence.
While Hatem obviously thinks guns are the problem, the real problem is gun control that prevents legally licensed gun owners from defending themselves in these kinds of situations.
Last year Hatem hosted part of Gabby Gifford’s anti-gun tour.
