A Democratic state senator who has stoked previous controversy by referring to the “race war” in St. Louis in connection with the shooting death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, is under fire once again for her remark about “white privilege.”
Missouri State Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal reportedly said on Twitter: “LET ME BE CLEAR. When you exercise your #WhitePrivilege, don’t think I’m not going to remember. I will use it for the future. Uncomfortable?”
That comment prompted stinging responses on Twitter, some of which suggested her rhetoric was racist and jeopardizing her future in politics.
“THE VOTERS ‘WE THE PEOPLE’ will remember you when it comes to voting for you. You just burnt your future,” said one tweet.
Chappelle-Nadal did not respond Sunday to requests for comment from Fox News.
The Democrat has been a lightning rod of controversy since Brown was killed last August during a scuffle with Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson.
She reportedly called the widespread protests after Wilson was not indicted St. Louis’ “race war.”

In the immediate aftermath of Brown’s death, the state senator’s comments were less incendiary on her official website: “I condemn all acts of violence and looting,” she wrote.
“These are not the actions of upstanding citizens; these are the worst among us. … The police officer involved in the shooting will have a chance to explain himself.”
Last month, Chappelle-Nadal introduced legislation requiring police officers to wear body cameras.
She claims she and other residents have been “abused by overzealous law enforcement” during the Missouri protests, including being struck multiple times by tear gas.
