Will French Unity With Jews Last More Than A Few Weeks?

#JeSuisJuif: Jews in France Are Not Alone

“Have we not all one Father? Has not one God created us? Why then are we faithless to one another, profaning the covenant of our fathers?” (Malachi 2:10)
Millions of people marched in Paris on Sunday in a rally showing solidarity with France after two terror attacks by radical Islamists. Forty world leaders from around the world, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, attended what has become the largest ever gathering in the French capital.
At the rally, France’s prime minister stated that his nation is at war with radical Islam. Over 5,000 security forces were called in to police and protect the rally. Beginning in Place de la République, which is centered around a monument representing French liberty, equality, and fraternity, world leaders marched together in peace.
The first attack, which took place on Wednesday, targeted the French satirical magazine, Charlie Hebdo. Two masked gunmen killed 12 people, including the magazine’s editor and a police officer. The attack was said to be a response to the magazine publishing an offensive image of the Muslim prophet Mohammed.

On Friday, in the hours before the start of the Sabbath, a kosher grocery store was attacked, leaving four French Jews dead. Netanyahu paid special tribute to those killed at the Paris Grand Synagogue on Sunday evening.
Netanyahu said that he is ready to welcome the Jews of France with “open arms” into Israel. Since 2014, 7,000 French Jews have left France due to increasing anti-Semitic attacks and have made aliyah (immigrated) to Israel due to security concerns.
Following Friday’s attack, people around the world began using the hashtag “Je suis juif”, which is French for “I am a Jew’, as a way to show solidarity with the French Jewish community. The slogan is reflective of “Je suis Charlie,” “I am Charlie”, created to show support for the victims of the Charlie Hebdo attack.
The #JuSuisJuif hashtag has turned into a viral social media tag, with millions of people around the world expressing their horror over the attacks in France.
