Police in Macon, Georgia, say up to 50 teenagers stormed into and trashed a local Walmart store over the weekend, causing thousands of dollars in damage in what appears to be an organized attack.
The onslaught took place at 1:45 a.m. Sunday, and an incident report from the Bibb County Sheriff’s office says floors in parts of the store on Zebulon Road were “coated with broken merchandise.”
“The length of the store from front to rear was lined with items which had been shattered, destroyed, turned over and thrown about,” the report said.

Surveillance video, which police have not released to the news media, shows the crowd yanking a man off an electric wheelchair and tossing him to the ground at the store on Zebulon Road. The Walmart is located just east of Interstate 475 in one of Macon’s most frequented shopping areas.
The video reveals 17-year-old Kharron Nathan Green entering the store first, displaying gang signs. He was then followed by a large crowd of other teens that investigators number between 40 and 50.
The sheriff’s report says the teen leading the rushing horde told a Walmart employee “this was a planned event … to see how much damage they could cause.”
Green said his group came from a party on “the south side” of the city, but he refused to name others in the crowd.
“Hopefully we can identify the others,” Sheriff David Davis said Monday, according to the Macon Telegraph. “Hopefully it’s not a pattern of behavior.”
Davis expressed concern about the parenting of those who took part in the rampage.
“Due to the lateness of the hour, I don’t know that they were going to be going to church the next morning,” he said.
When deputies arrived, the crowd “began to flee into many different vehicles and leave the scene,” according to the sheriff’s report.
Green was taken into custody when he returned to the Walmart to fetch his cell phone he had apparently dropped during the mayhem. He was jailed and later released on bail of $3,700 after being charged with inciting a riot and second-degree damage to property.
According to the incident report, Green initially first told authorities “he did not know anything about what had happened in the store and that he did not know anyone involved.”
It was only after his father and mother arrived and examined the surveillance video with deputies that “Green admitted to his parents that the male in the video was indeed him.”
Damage to the store’s merchandise is estimated at $2,000.
Authorities are urging anyone with information on the other perpetrators to call Macon Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
