Hillary Clinton is telling close friends she’s not worried about a challenge from Vice President Joe Biden — and can beat him if he enters the 2016 presidential race, bestselling political author Ed Klein says.

And, as icing on the cake, the former of secretary of state believes she has dug up enough dirt on Biden that she can turn voters against him, according to Klein, author of“Unlikeable: The Problem with Hillary,” out Sept. 28th from Regnery.

“If Joe gets in, it’ll just give me a chance to sharpen my debating skills,” Clinton told her confidantes, according to Klein’s blog, Ed Klein Confidential.

Klein’s sources also quote Clinton as saying: “It will look as though I actually have to fight to get the nomination. And being a fighter is the theme of my candidacy.”

In addition, Klein reports, Clinton has “assembled enough negative research on Biden that, in her view, she can knock him out of the race before he gets very far.”

“She believes that African-Americans and other minorities—who make up a significant proportion of the party’s primary base—won’t vote for Biden once they’re reminded of his record on civil rights,” Klein writes.

That because, in 1978, Biden opposed court-ordered busing to integrate schools.
And he later voted in favor of mandatory minimum sentences for federal crimes, even for the possession of small quantities of illegal drugs, Klein says.

“As the New York Times put it: ‘Scholars say that those actions have led to significant higher incarceration rates for blacks and other minorities,’” Klein says.

Clinton’s friends tell Klein that the votes Biden cast nearly 40 years ago will be hard to explain to voters.

“And that’s what Hillary plans to make him do, time after time, if he dares to challenge her for the nomination,” one friend told Klein.

In a new CNN/ORC poll released Thursday, Clinton’s national lead over her Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and possibly Biden, has eroded.

The poll shows Clinton with support from 37 percent of Democrats and Democratic-leaning voters, Sanders with 27 percent and Biden with 20 percent.
