Donald Trump has received what could be the most important endorsement of his barnstorming presidential campaign — an enthusiastic nod from Richard Nixon.

A new biography of Trump reveals the nation's 37th president sent a gushing letter to the billionaire developer after First Lady Pat Nixon saw him interviewed on Phil Donahue's daily talk show, The New York Times reports.
The book — "Never Enough," by Michael D'Antonio, — says Mrs. Nixon was so impressed by the Dec. 21st 1987 chat, in which Trump discussed the nation's problems and the solutions to them, that she told her husband.

That compelled Nixon to write Trump a complimentary note that praised him as a future leader, according to D'Antonio.

"Dear Donald, I did not see the program, but Mrs. Nixon told me you were great," Nixon wrote.

"As you can imagine, she is an expert on politics and she predicts that whenever you decide to run for office, you will be a winner!"

Nixon signed the note, "RMN," for Richard Milhous Nixon. The letter has never been published before.

Trump, the GOP's frontrunner for the 2016 presidential nomination, is likely to welcome Nixon's endorsement from beyond the grave.

While Nixon resigned in disgrace during the Watergate scandal in 1974, he has since been praised for his leadership in foreign and domestic affairs.

Trump will appear on Wednesday on the steps of Capitol Hill, along with Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, to protest the Iran nuclear deal looming before Congress.

"Never Enough" is out this month from Thomas Dunne Books.
