Wall Street Journal to Trump: 'Better Be Careful'

The Wall Street Journal Thursday night fired back at GOP front-runner Donald Trump after he demanded its editorial board apologize to him for saying Hillary Clinton has gotten more votes than him in the primaries so far, saying, "As Mr. Trump likes to tweet, better be careful!" over the levels of support he's getting from Republican voters.
"The truth hurts, though Mr. Trump would rather walk down Fifth Avenue shooting the messenger," the publication said in its op-ed piece, "A Trump Reality Check," taunting him in a play on his comments that he could stand on Fifth Avenue and shoot someone and not lose voters.
"On Thursday the businessman demanded an apology after we — 'the dummies at the @WSJ Editorial Board' — accurately noted Hillary Clinton has received about a million more votes than he has," the board wrote.
But Trump, disagreed strongly with the publication, saying that not only was the editorial board "bad at math," but "nobody cares what they say in their editorials anymore, especially me."
Further, Trump complained that the editorial had knocked him for having about a million fewer voters than Clinton:
The Wall Street Journal responded that the large field led to Trump's rise to the top, but noted he has not yet received a majority of the voters.
"Actually his rise has been cleared by the large and fractured GOP field," the editorial board wrote.
"Of the 20.35 million GOP primary votes cast so far, he has received 7.54 million, or a mere 37 percent. Despite the media desire to call him unstoppable, Mr. Trump is the weakest Republican front-runner since Gerald Ford in 1976."
In addition, the board said Trump should be more concerned about the 39 percent of Republican voters who said in exit polls Tuesday that they would consider a third-party candidate if Trump or Clinton become their parties' nominees, or the 44 percent of non-Trump voters who said they won't vote for him in November.
