Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush told CNN he will not attend this summer's Republican National Convention and other top members of the party may do the same.

CNN reports Bush said he won't be there to help the party select its presidential nominee.

New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte told the network it's "unlikely" she'll be there. North Carolina Sen. Richard Burr, who is campaigning for re-election this fall, said he's thinking of steering clear of Cleveland as well.
"I'm more valuable outside of Cleveland than inside of Cleveland," Burr told CNN.

And Republican Rep. Mick Mulvaney, who hails from South Carolina and is one of the co-founders of the House Freedom Caucus, told CNN he's not going either.

"Let the activists, let the people decide [who will be the nominee]," Mulvaney told CNN.

The road to the Republican National Convention has been rocky, with a sharp divide existing between those in favor of Donald Trump, who leads the delegate total, and those who would like to see Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, or perhaps even another established Republican get the nod.

There has been talk of a contested convention this summer, which could result in Trump being denied the nomination even if he is still leading.

House Speaker Paul Ryan's name has been tossed around as a potential nominee, even though he did not join the race. Ryan, however, said Tuesday he will not seek the presidency.

Mulvaney told CNN about 10 other Republicans he has spoken with said they would not attend the convention either.
