We’ve all heard the election-year promises and threats before from celebrities, saying they’ll move to Canada or some other foreign nation if the candidate they don’t like becomes president of the United States.
Now, Hotels.com is looking to cash in on that theme.
It is employing its Captain Obvious mascot to coax people into traveling to Canada before transplanting their lives there.

On Twitter Tuesday, Captain Obvious posted a message saying, “Is Canada starting to sound like a good option? Why not make a trip North before November? Be a tourist before becoming a resident.”

It included the clever tagline of #ElectingToMove, but as of this writing, there were no comments posted at that hashtag.
On a related page, Captain Obvious is pictured at a serene Canadian lake with a billboarded message: “Visit before you move here. Canada’s not going anywhere.”

Among the celebrities who have vowed to leave America and live in Canada if Donald Trump gets elected is “Girls” star Lena Dunham.
“I know a lot of people have been threatening to do this, but I really will,” Dunham reportedly said at the Matrix Awards in New York City last month.
“I know a lovely place in Vancouver and I can get my work done from there.”

The remark didn’t phase the Republican front-runner one bit.
“Well, now I have to get elected because I’ll be doing a great service to our country,” Trump told Fox News.
“She’s a B-actress and has no mojo,” he said.
“I heard Whoopi Goldberg said that too and it would be a great thing for our country.”
.
The threats to move out of the U.S. are not just targeting Trump. A pro-Bernie Sanders Facebook page is titled, “If Hillary Clinton wins, I’m moving to Costa Rica,” and it has some 200 likes.
Fox News anchor Bill O’Reilly also reportedly said if Sanders wins this election, he’s moving to Ireland.
