Is The Electoral College Discussion Really Only About Race? Or Is It An Easy Way For The Dems To Eliminate Opposition?

Fox News host Bill O’Reilly said Tuesday that liberals have a “hidden” motivation to abolish the Electoral College — a push to take power away “from the white establishment.”
During a monologue on his program “The O’Reilly Factor,” O’Reilly said efforts to get rid of the Electoral College system are “all about race.”

O’Reilly noted that after former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton won the popular vote but lost the Electoral College, many liberals began advocating for the abolishment of the Electoral College, arguing that it is an antiquated system.
“If the Electoral College were abolished, presidential candidates could simply campaign in the nation’s largest cities, New York, L.A., Chicago, Houston,” O’Reilly said. “And rack up enough votes to pretty much win any election — that’s what the left wants, that’s what they want.”
He said that since minority voters are “substantial” in “the large urban areas,” if candidates had to seek votes predominantly from cities, it would tilt elections in the Democrats’ favor and would marginalize “the largely white rural areas in the Midwest and the South.”
“Very few commentators will tell you that the heart of liberalism in America is based on race,” O’Reilly said. “It permeates almost every issue — that white men have set up a system of oppression and that system must be destroyed.”
He said that the left has argued that “so-called ‘white privilege’ bad, diversity good” and that liberals have attributed white men abandoning the Democratic Party merely to “racism.”
“The left sees white privilege in America as an oppressive force that must be done away with,” he said.
“Summing up, the left wants power taken away from the white establishment, and they want a profound change in the way America is run,” he concluded. “Taking voting power away from the white precincts is the quickest way to do that.”
O’Reilly made similar comments in 2012, arguing that if President Barack Obama won re-election, “the white establishment is now the minority” in the United States must be done away with,” he said.
