Talk show host Rush Limbaugh on Thursday said President Donald Trump’s “masterful” press conference was one of the most effective press conferences he had ever seen.
“The press is going to hate him even more after this. Don’t misunderstand. When I say effective, I’m talking about rallying people who voted for him to stay with him,” Limbaugh said, noting that Trump made a point of “reassuring the people he’s on top of everything. Nothing has changed. Everything he campaigned on, he is doing. All he is doing is fulfilling campaign promises. And of course, the Democrats don’t like him. Of course, the media don’t like him. It isn’t going to stop him.”
Trump rewrote the playbook for the presidential press conferences, Limbaugh noted.

“Folks, it was masterful. It wasn’t scripted. It was nothing that the president had to think long and hard about. He didn’t have to make notes and memorize them and go out. It was improv. It was spontaneous. … It was the truth,” Limbaugh said.
“When you’ve got the truth and when you’re telling people the truth of what you really think, you don’t have to remember it. It’s in your heart. It’s like anything else you believe, you don’t need a cram course on what you believe. You don’t really need advisers to tell you what you believe. You believe it, it’s in your heart, it’s in your mind, and you can easily explain it to people, you don’t have to remember it. And that’s who Donald Trump was today,” he said.
The president used much of his press conference to call the media to task for irresponsible dissemination of leaked information, and Limbaugh noted that roles were being reversed.

“The press has gotten to the point where they need a watchdog, and it turns out that Trump is the watchdog. Trump is the guy holding them accountable.
“Trump is the guy calling them out. I’ve never seen anything like this today. I have never seen it,” he said.
Trump’s demeanor throughout the press conference impressed Limbaugh.
“Trump did it with an air of confidence and self-assuredness. He was not nervous at all. He was having fun with them. He was toying with them. It’s like if you got a cat. You know how you get these little laser pointers and you have a little kitten or a cat and the cat goes nuts chasing the light? It will run into a wall. That’s what I was watching here today,” he said.

Although the media has put the Trump administration under a partisan microscope, Limbaugh said Trump can take the pressure.
“I wouldn’t worry about Trump. … everything that I have been able to amass, witness, put together, says he’s fine. Not that he’s unaware, don’t misunderstand. He’s not living in a bubble. It’s just that he’s committed to his agenda and all of this stuff is noise, and the media is not the No. 1 thing in his world in terms of shaping his opinions on things or his agenda or his daily attitude,” he said.
Limbaugh shared one example, citing an AP report that Trump was “overwhelmed by all these crises.”
“No, he’s not. Trump had a very casual meeting with 10 or 12 members of Congress today talking about the agenda. He was joking. He was lighthearted. It was excellent. It was off the cuff, informal. It was funny and it was charming. He’s not stressed over all this, or what would they say, overwhelmed,” he said.
