Report: VA Shooter Was Die-Hard Bernie Fan
The gunman who opened fire during a congressional baseball practice session Wednesday morning in Alexandria, Virginia, wounding House Majority Whip Steve Scalise and several others, was a rabid supporter of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who has emerged as one of the most vocal critics of President Donald Trump and his policies.
Moreover, according to news reports, shooter James T. Hodgkinson, who died after a shootout with authorities, was personally active in Sanders’ campaign during the the Democrat primary in 2016, working as a canvasser in Iowa.
“Charles Orear, 50, a restaurant manager from St. Louis, said … he became friendly with James T. Hodgkinson … during their work in Iowa on Sen. Bernie Sanders’s presidential campaign,” The Washington Post reported, adding that Hodgkinson came off as a “passionate progressive.”
An investigation of Hodgkinson’s two Facebook pages by The Daily Wire confirmed that they contain pictures of Sanders, as well as “several pieces of content dedicated to stock leftist rhetoric, including a solid amount of anti-Trump content.”
Reports also suggest that the attack Wednesday morning had been spurred entirely by Hodgkinson’s zealous hatred Trump and, it would appear, all Republicans.
While these facts are certainly disturbing, they aren’t necessarily shocking. As prominent conservative commentator Ben Shapiro noted in his acclaimed book, “Bullies: How the Left’s Culture of Fear and Intimidation Silences Americans,” “Virtually every major American shooting of an elected official during the twentieth century was committed by a left-winger.”
“Leon Czolgosz, who murdered President William McKinley in 1901, was a left-wing anarchist,” he wrote. “Giuseppe Zangara, who tried to shoot FDR and succeeded in murdering Chicago mayor Anton Cermak, confessed, ‘I have the gun in my hand. I kill kings and presidents first, and next all capitalists.’ Sirhan Sirhan was a Palestinian terrorist who hated Robert F. Kennedy’s pro-Israel record.”
The examples continue, with the latest one being that of Hodgkinson, who nearly killed Steve Scalise — and would have likely committed a massacre had Capitol police not been present — all over a sickening animus that some would argue the Democrat Party and liberal media have thus far been more than happy to foster.
