When news of the school shooting in Parkland, FL broke the question wasn’t “if” the mainstream media and progressives would uses it as a platform for gun control but “how quickly?” That answer was a quickly as a microphone could be stuck in front of a grieving, emotion filled child’s mouth.
Usually, the gun control faction is the first on TV and in print media to call for the confiscation of “certain types” of guns. This time, CNN and the rest of the liberal media passed that baton to students to plead with government to disband the NRA and ban guns.
In the past, the liberal media has been careful to avoid questioning the validity of the 2nd Amendment while calling for a reinterpretation of it. Now, both CNN and MSNBC have thrown caution to the wind and aired their hosts and guests calling for an outright repeal of this most basic foundation to The Bill of Rights.
Kirsten Powers joined in a debate with conservative commentator Mary Katherine Ham on Jake Tapper’s “The Lead” (CNN). Powers suggested that no-one needed a semi-automatic rifle to protect their home but rather a shotgun is sufficient. You might have to watch the video several times before realizing what they actually were more than implying – “the Constitution is in in our way to banning all guns outright.”
One has to wonder if Jake Tapper or Kirsten Powers have any real understanding of the words or intent of the 2nd Amendment. In case any of us have forgotten it:
A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
Thomas Jefferson writes in the Virginia Constitution – “No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.”
In letters to James Madison, Jefferson wrote:
What country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms.
I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery.
Watch the video of Tapper, Ham, and Powers and see how subtly the following words were inserted into the discussion – “the Constitution is in our way to solving this problem.”
