Actress Alyssa Milano, one of Hollywood’s staunchest supporters of abortion, is calling on women everywhere to abstain from sex.
Milano’s exhortation comes as numerous states explore extending protections for unborn children. Most recently, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) signed into law a controversial “heartbeat bill,” which outlaws abortion in The Peach State once ultrasound detects an unborn child’s heartbeat.
What did Milano say?
“Our reproductive rights are being erased. Until women have legal control over our own bodies we just cannot risk pregnancy,” the actress wrote on Twitter Friday.
“JOIN ME by not having sex until we get bodily autonomy back. I’m calling for a #SexStrike,” she said. “Pass it on.”
Milano attempted to make the point that most abortion advocates make: that women should have control over their own bodies, and, therefore, should not be subject to decisions made by lawmakers that limit their access to abortion.
But as tens of thousands of people quickly pointed out, Milano’s message carried more meaning than she intended.
What was the reaction?
Matt Walsh pointed out that “the only dudes affected by the sex strike are the emasculated pro-abortion guys who are already on [the pro-abortion] side.”
Others pointed out that Milano essentially made a pro-life argument.
Indeed, the irony of Milano’s “sex strike” did not fall of deaf ears.
