Sanders Bad Plans

Bernie’s Plan to Break up ICE and Other Bad Ideas

Bernie's Plan to Break up ICE and Other Bad Ideas
Bernie Sanders announced his immigration plan recently, and it’s one that will put our country in danger.
His plan is twofold — he wants to get rid of ICE and Customs and Border Protection, and give domestic workers a $15 minimum wage.
After getting rid of ICE and CBP, he would put the Department of Justice in charge of deportation and enforcement. The Treasury Department would handle customs and the State Department would handle naturalization and citizenship.

But That’s Not All

On top of all that, he also wants to break up the Department of Homeland Security. On his website, he says:
“DHS is now the third-largest government agency and suffers from wasteful spending, bureaucratic bloat, and no clearly defined mission. Critics from across the political spectrum have documented the dysfunction and unaccountability of DHS, and President Trump has turned Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) into a renegade detention and deportation force. Immigration is not a threat to national security. It is long past time we break up the Department of Homeland Security and refocus its mission on keeping our country safe and responding effectively to emergencies.”

The Consequences

Not only would doing away with ICE most certainly be dangerous, but it would also put over 20,000 ICE employees out of work. Like most Liberals, Sanders enjoys vilifying ICE, so he probably doesn’t care much about that fact.
One thing he does care about is making our country more enticing for immigrants. The second major part of his immigration plan is to give agricultural and domestic workers a $15 minimum wage. The Democratic Socialist also wants to change the National Labor Relations Act and the Fair Labor Standards Act so that the farmworker exemptions are removed. This could put many farmers at risk of not being able to hire help and cause them to raise the prices of their products.

But Wait, He’s Still Not Done Yet!

If all that isn’t enough, he also wants to decriminalize immigration and put “border crossings on par with other forms of immigration violations, such as overstaying a visa.”
Part of his plan of decriminalization would be to push Congress to make a pathway to citizenship for the 11 million illegal immigrants currently living in America.
According to his website, he believes that:
“The American people overwhelmingly support a pathway to citizenship for undocumented individuals living in the United States. They believe that immigrants make this country stronger and contribute to the economy. Bernie believes that it is not a radical idea to enact the will of the people when in office. He will push Congress, immediately, to provide a legislative path to citizenship to bring 11 million people out of the shadows to make our communities safer, our economy stronger, and live up to the ideals of our nation.”
If the 11 million illegal immigrants in our country didn’t respect the US enough to follow the laws to gain legal citizenship, should we just forgive them and allow them to become American citizens so easily? Let us know what you think in the comments.
