Report: Joe Biden’s VP pick down to one person
Presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden’s hunt for a running mate has reportedly narrowed to one woman.
According to a new report from Politico‘s Christopher Cadelago and Natasha Korecki, who say they spoke to numerous Democratic insiders, Biden’s team has a very clear favorite for his vice presidential pick.
Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif.
The report confirmed a The Horn News investigation from May 5. The Horn News reported that a flurry of activity on Harris’ Wikipedia page hinted that the Biden campaign had settled on her as running mate. The edits match an identical trend from prior elections among soon-to-be-named running mates.
Over 200 edits to Harris’ Wikipedia page were made by unknown parties — a pattern seen previously on Vice President Mike Pence’s Wikipedia page prior to Trump’s campaign’s announcement, as well as late Sen. John McCain and Sen. Mitt Romney’s 2008 and 2012 presidential campaigns activity ahead of their running mate announcements.
McCain gave the nod to then-Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. Romney selected then-Rep. Paul Ryan.
The report from Politico confirms that Harris has firmly established her position as the front-runner for VP pick in the Democrats’ effort to unseat President Donald Trump.
Don’t expect an announcement anytime soon, however. While Harris is the clear favorite, the Biden campaign is still involved in the formal process of vetting nearly a dozen other potential vice presidential picks.
The Biden campaign has tried to keep the search process quiet.
They’re expected to make the formal announcement in early July in an effort to maximize the political boost among undecided voters heading towards the November election.
That is… if they can keep leaks from big-money donors quiet.
“Biden and Harris have spoken privately several times, and a growing contingent of operatives inside and around the presumptive Democratic nominee’s campaign have been making it clear they want her as his pick,” Politico wrote.
“Influential donors are joining in the push, seeing the daughter of immigrants from India and Jamaica as the most logical choice to balance a ticket led by a white man in his late 70s. Some of the party’s biggest benefactors, including those who went months rarely hearing from Harris, said they have seen an uptick in contacts from her and people on her behalf.”
