Donald Trump's stance on Muslim immigration is spot on, and it's one the country had better embrace despite the manner in which the GOP nominee delivers that message, writes Rich Lowry in Politico.

Much has been made about second-generation Muslims being born in America, but Trump's point is this: How did they get here in the first place? And as Lowry writes, that's the crux of the problem that Trump is correct to address.
What hurts Trump, though, is his presentation of those sound ideas.

"As usual, though, Trump hurt his own case in his speech," Lowry wrote. "He refused to make basic concessions — for example, that the vast majority of Muslims in this country are perfectly law-abiding, instead making the sweeping, incendiary accusation that Muslims knew about the San Bernardino and Orlando attacks in advance (although Omar Mateen's wife might have known in advance)."

But the fact is, sons of immigrants have killed 60 Americans between San Bernardino and Orlando. Sons of immigrants seem to be a breeding ground for ISIS recruitment, so maybe we ought not to take in 1 million more Muslim immigrants over the next decade, Lowry writes.

So while Lowry says a Muslim ban is not the right course of action, better screening and a re-do of the country's criteria to allow Muslim immigrants would be.
Regardless, even if you hate the messenger, don't hate the message, Lowry writes.

"Donald Trump does the cause of immigration restriction a disservice by rendering it in caricature," Lowry wrote. "But the questions he raises won't go away, and they shouldn't."
