Bush Shaves His Head To Honor Child With Leukemia

George HW Bush Shaves Head To Show Solidarity For Cancer-Stricken Boy

Several years ago, former President George H.W. Bush found out that a young boy, the son of a Secret Serviceagent on his detail, had been diagnosed with leukemia.
The then-2-year-old boy, Patrick, lost his hair due to the treatment, and in a show of support for the child, whose father, Jon, served as part of the Bush Protective Division, the now 92-year-old former president shaved his head in 2013, KPRC-TV reported.
Members of the BPD had shaved their heads to show support for Patrick, and Bush told his granddaughter, Jenna Bush Hager, that he had decided to follow their lead because it was the “right thing to do,” according to Today.

Bush tweeted an update about Patrick’s health recently, sharing a photo of himself and the then-toddler — both without hair — next to a new photo — both with full heads of hair.
“Incredibly  that my friend Patrick, the courageous young man (with hair!) to my left, is feeling and doing much better these days,” Bush tweeted.

It’s wonderful to see that Patrick is doing better — and the photo with him and the former president, both now with full heads of hair, is lovely to see.
Bush and his wife Barbara have personal experience with the awful disease: Their second-born child, Robin Bush, died from leukemia in 1953.
Although many have been frustrated with the actions of the Bush family this election season, stories like this are reminders of the good, and this was a really sweet gesture. God bless Patrick and his family.
