Conservative firebrand Ben Shapiro appeared Monday on “The Ingraham Angle,” where he responded to Joshua Topolsky’s — co-founder of Vox Media’s The Verge — Holocaust-related Twitter rant.

What’s the history?

On Sunday, Topolsky shared incredibly inflammatory Holocaust-related tweets about Shapiro, who is Jewish.
According to screenshots courtesy of Parkland, Florida, student Kyle Kashuv and others, Topolsky wrote, “Ben Shapiro is the Jew who helps other Jews onto the train.”
Twitter user Namir Yadid responded, “… Ben dreams of the handshake and shiny medal he’ll get for being such an obedient boy.”
Topolsky continued the rant, writing, “Either way, Ben ends up on his knees.”
The Verge co-founder later deleted the offending tweets after facing some immense backlash on the internet.
When asked by myriad social media users as to how he could make such crass comparisons — including as to how he could have the gumption to make the tweets, only to later delete them — Topolsky responded, “I deleted it because a mob of right-wing babies were flooding my mentions and it was frankly pretty annoying (as were the DM death threats. I didn’t apologize lol.”
Topolsky continued his refusals to admit that his remarks were inflammatory, and dismissed the comments as metaphor.
Another user said that Topolsky should “be a man” and tag Shapiro in his commentary about the conservative pundit, and that’s when Shapiro himself chimed in.
“He blocked me long ago,” Shapiro said of Topolsky.

What did Shapiro tell Ingraham?

Speaking on Laura Ingraham’s show, Shapiro said, “I’ve been called worse by better.”
“I’m assuming [Topolsky is] calling me a Nazi,” Shapiro added, explaining that “the way the left works these days is that anyone who disagrees with them is a Nazi.”
The conservative personality also said that Topolsky’s comments were especially ironic, considering the Anti-Defamation League previously named Shapiro a top recipient of “alt-right hatred.”
