We Hope That Dick's Goes Out Of Business

Gun Stores Mock Dick’s Sporting Goods with Scathing New Signs

In the wake of the Parkland shooting, Dick’s Sporting Goods decided to become the vanguard of the pusillanimous corporate response to pressure exerted by gun control groups.
First, it banned modern sporting rifles — or, as we’ve started to call them, “assault weapons” — from subsidiary stores. It also raised the age limit to purchase firearms from 18 to 21, in spite of the fact that gun ownership is the constitutional right of every adult.
Predictably, Dick’s seen a lot of pushback from its policy changes — and some of it comes from other gun retailers.
In fact, Boyert Shooting Center in Katy, Texas seems to be having a lot of fun with it. Their anti-Dick’s campaign first came to light on Twitter, when someone noticed this well-done troll:
That wasn’t all, though. When gun-maker Springfield decided to cut ties with Dick’s Sporting Goods, citing the retailer “hiring a group for anti-Second Amendment lobbying,” Boyert decided to run a “Springfield Armory ‘Done With Dick’s’ Blowout Sale!”

“In honor of Springfield Armory cutting off Dick’s from selling their products due to Dick’s hiring of anti-2nd Amendment Lobbyists, we will be featuring a Springfield Armory ‘Done With Dick’s’ Blowout Sale this weekend at both of our locations,” the company’s website said, according to Townhall.com.
“We’ll also be offering 10 percent off any Springfield holsters and accessories,” they added. “This is going to be an opportunity you definitely won’t want to miss!”
But, hey — if you missed that, Mossberg also cut ties with Dick’s Sporting Goods, so I’m sure there was another sale to be had there.
And, in fact, they were hardly the only ones making hay off of Dick’s decision to get skittish on the Second Amendment.
Travis Clark, Boyert’s program director, said his company had gotten positive reactions to its sign.
“It was meant to have people react to it and hopefully most understand that we are referring to the company and not an individual. We have had a lot of people come in and tell us they love the sign,” he said.
“It’s about 99 percent support,” Brad Stamper of Crossroads Pawn said. “Our phone’s ringing off the hook.”

So, how’s Dick’s doing? Well, two major gun manufacturers have cut all ties with the chain, its stock price is down due to major declines in same-store sales, and the CEO isn’t sounding super-positive about the future.
“There’s going to be some pushback and we expected that,” CEO Edward Stack said. “There are going to be the people who don’t shop us anymore f’m not sure which I love more, the power of the free market or the Second Amendment. Thank God I live in a country where I don’t have to choose — and I can spend my money at places like Boyert and Crossroads.

The Truth Is Starting To Come Out.

‘I now actually do want to take your guns. All of your guns. Right now,’ magazine editor declares

Esquire’s editor-at-large penned a letter of sorts to the National Rifle Association and blasted the organization in the wake of the Santa Fe High School massacre in Texas.
In his Friday piece for the magazine, Dave Holmes accused the NRA of having “bought our government” and convincing its “members that the occasional school shooting, the odd literal slaughter of innocents, is an unfortunate but inevitable quirk of American life, a thing that is necessary to preserve freedom.”

His main point?

But Holmes’ thesis was summed up in the following three lines:
Anyway, I just wanted to drop you a line and let you know that I now actually do want to take your guns.
All of your guns.
Right now.

‘It wasn’t always this way’

“It wasn’t always this way,” he added in the magazine piece. “I have responsible gun owners in my family. I’ve never been a fan of shooting at things myself, but guns sure do seem to have brought joy into the lives of some people I love, and as long as they were stored properly, I never had a problem with them being around. I believed that we should place a hurdle or two between a psychopath and an AR-15, but that’s about as ardent as I got. Live and let live, that was my policy. Even with death machines.”
He continued, “That has all changed. And you changed it.”
Holmes said the NRA “had the opportunity to work with the vast majority of Americans who support the sensible reform of our gun laws. You have had the chance to preserve your own rights as we work together to keep our gun regulations in step with gun technology. You haven’t.”
He mentioned that bump-stock manufacturing could have been banned and minimum ages for gun ownership could have increased and gun-safety studies could’ve been done — but instead the NRA battled against such changes and took “to our television screens to tell us that the world is an apocalyptic hellscape, and that the only way to be safe from gun violence is to stock our homes with guns.”

‘The ground is shifting. Get ready’

More from Holmes’ piece:
I was stunned and sad after Parkland. I was heartened by the efforts of the young people who watch their friends get murdered in front of them. I watched you make nice with them on CNN and then, behind their backs, call them terrorists. And then this morning I watched the same goddamn thing happen again, only this time at a high school in Santa Fe, Texas, where at least ten people are dead. As though all of the marching and organizing and common-sense talking had never happened. As though this ever growing pile of young bodies is worth nothing.
So now I’m angry. Now I’m finished trying to reason with you. So now I, a guy who was ambivalent about guns just a few years ago, want to take your guns away. All of them. I want to take them all and melt them down and shape them into a giant sphere and then push it at you so you have to run away from it like Indiana Jones for the rest of your lives. I want Ted Nugent to roam the halls of his gunless house, sighing wearily until he dies. I want to end this thing once and for all, so that all of you who have prioritized the sale of guns over the lives of children have to sit quietly and think about what you’ve done. God help me, I want to take all of your guns out of your hands, by myself, right now.
He concluded by saying, “It’s happening. We tried it your way, and it really did not work. The ground is shifting. Get ready.”

If Law Enforcement Is Not Doing Its Job, What Should Americans Do?

Local and federal law enforcement knew the man who opened fire in a Tennessee Waffle House early Sunday morning, killing four and injuring at least seven others.
They knew him so well that he was arrested last year and had his firearms confiscated.

What are the details?

The Secret Service said Sunday its agents arrested the killer in July 2017 after he was found in a “restricted area” near the White House, according to the Tennessean.
Secret Service representative Todd Hudson said: “He wanted to set up a meeting with the president.”
The killer, who is reportedly from Illinois, was revoked of his ability to possess firearms following his arrest in Washington. Illinois police also confiscated four firearms from his possession, including the AR-15 he used in Sunday’s killing, a spokesman for the Nashville Police said.
Tazewell County Sheriff Robert Huston explained at a news conference that when sheriff deputies came to confiscate the killer’s firearms last August, his father was present and asked the officers if he could take possession of the firearms instead. Tazewell said the father was legally able to possess weapons in the state of Illinois, so they turned the weapons over to him.
Authorities say the killer’s father later returned the firearms to his son. However, it was not immediately known if there was a Tennessee law that prohibited the killer from possessing the firearms.
