E-Commerce Killing Shopping Malls

Up to 25% of U.S. shopping malls may close in the next five years, report says

Makeda Easter
Between 20% and 25% of the nation’s shopping malls will close in the next five years, according to a new report from Credit Suisse that predicts e-commerce will continue to pull shoppers away from bricks-and-mortar retailers.
For many, the Wall Street firm’s finding may come as no surprise. Long-standing retailers are dying off as shoppers’ habits shift online. Credit Suisse expects apparel sales to represent 35% of all e-commerce by 2030, up from 17% today.
Traditional mall anchors, such as Macy’s, J.C. Penney and Sears, have announced numerous store closings in recent months. Clothiers including American ApparelBebe and BCBG Max Azria have filed for bankruptcy. The report estimates that around 8,640 stores will close by the end of the year.
Retail industry experts say Credit Suisse may have underestimated the scope of the upheaval.

“It’s more in the 30% range,” Ron Friedman, a retail expert at accounting and advisory firm Marcum said of the share of malls that he predicts will close in the next five years. “There are a lot of malls that know they’re in big trouble.”
By ignoring new shopping centers being built, the research note took an overly simplistic view of the changing landscape of shopping centers, said analyst David Marcotte, senior vice president with Kantar Retail.
“There are still malls being built,” Marcotte said. “Predominantly outlet malls and lifestyle malls.”
The change may not affect all sectors of the mall economy evenly.

Paula Rosenblum, co-founder and retail analyst at RSR Research, believes the report overstates the risks, and says lower-tier shopping centers in particular would bear the brunt of the blow.
“The problem with a lot of these studies ... is they look at what’s dying, they don’t look at what’s being born,” Rosenblum said.
But analysts agreed that to survive and stay relevant, malls need to make serious changes.
“A lot of malls are being redone. We are seeing mixed-use, many more restaurants and service providers, and less clothing stores,” Friedman said. “You’re going to see a future where you’ll be living at the mall.”
“If you have food and entertainment, that gives you a court to build around,” Marcotte said. “Once you get past that you need to create a space that is lifestyle oriented.”
Rosenblum says shopping centers will be driven by the demands of millennials and members of Generation Z behind them, who are more likely to spend money on entertainment rather than just clothing.
Malls, Rosenblum said, “are going to become more of a destination, not just for shopping but for activities and experiences.”

Macy's Stops its Donations to Planned Parenthood
Retailer Macy’s is confirming to corporate watchdog 2ndVote that it is no
longer donating to Planned Parenthood.

In October, Breitbart News reported that Macy’s was one of 37 companies
that 2ndVote found were direct donors to the abortion chain.

2ndVote reports:

You may remember how four companies (AT&T, Coca-Cola, Ford, and
Xerox) publicly distanced themselves from Planned Parenthood last year
after our research exposed forty-one companies with direct financial ties
to the abortion giant. At that time, another company on our list, Macy’s,
was making donations to Planned Parenthood.

However, Macy’s confirmed with 2ndVote last week that the company no
longer gives and no longer matches donations to Planned Parenthood.

You can see the updated Macy’s scorepage here.

We wanted to share this great news with you because the credit is due to
our 2ndVote members who have engaged these companies for their position
on the Life issue. It’s because of your decisions and conversations with
these companies that the funnels of corporate dollars to liberal organizations
are starting to close.

Immigration Debate Has Changed Dramatically By One Man.

Rush Limbaugh: 'Trump Has Changed the Entire Debate on Immigration'

By Jason Devaney   |   Wednesday, 08 Jul 2015 08:04 PM

Donald Trump has altered the immigration debate in the United States, conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh said on his show Wednesday.

"Look at what Donald Trump has done," Limbaugh said.  "Donald Trump has single-handedly changed the debate in terms of electoral politics now. There is a bunch of us who have been saying similar things, doing similar things. But none of us is running for president and none of us has been covered by the media day in/day out with every syllable that we utter.

"Donald Trump has changed the entire debate on immigration, and he is not the story today. The story today is sanctuary cities."

The Daily Caller posted audio of Limbaugh's remarks:

Story continues below audio.

Trump has made national headlines with his recent comments about illegal immigrants who come from Mexico.

During his campaign announcement speech on June 16, Trump — a real estate mogul running for president as a Republican — said America has an immigration problem.

"When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best. ... They're sending people that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems to us," said Trump, who defended his comments on Monday. "They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, some are good people!

"But I speak to border guards and they tell us what we're getting. And it only makes common sense. They're sending us not the right people. It's coming from more than Mexico. It's coming from all over South and Latin America, and it's coming probably from the Middle East. But we don't know. Because we have no protection and we have no competence, we don't know what's happening. And it's got to stop and it's got to stop fast."

NBC and Macy's have severed ties
with Trump because of what he said, while ESPN moved a charity golf tournament from one of his courses.

"I don't know how long it's going to last, but on just one issue look at what it has cost Donald Trump," Limbaugh said. "Look at the abuse that he has taken and had to take. Look at how much business he has had to lose. Although Trump, in classic Trump fashion, has issued a press release today saying all of this is actually increasing his business. He genuinely is one of a kind."

Limbaugh, however, said the national media is now turning its attention to the issue Trump raised, illegal immigration, because of the slaying of a San Francisco womanallegedly at the hands of an immigrant who had been deported five times.  San Francisco is a "sanctuary city" and does not, in general, enforce national immigration laws.

Donald Trump on Wednesday said Hillary Clinton was the worst secretary of State in U.S. history.
He also said Clinton is incapable of winning the White House in 2016, one day after the Democratic front-runner criticized Trump’s remarks about Mexican immigrants.

“Hillary Clinton was the worst secretary of State in the history of the United States," Trump said, according to Business Insider.
“On top of that, she is extremely bad on immigration,” the GOP presidential candidate added.
“Despite anything you may hear to the contrary, I do not think she is electable,” he said.
Clinton criticized Trump’s rhetoric on immigration during her first national TV interview as a 2016 contender, aired Tuesday evening.
“I’m very disappointed in those comments, and I feel very bad and very disappointed with him, and with the Republican Party for not responding immediately and saying, ‘Enough, stop it,’ ” she told CNN’s Brianna Keilar.
Trump, who is in second place in some polls of GOP White House candidates, has faced three weeks of national outrage since his formal campaign launch in New York City last month.
The New York business mogul sharply criticized Hispanic immigrants and Mexico during the address.
“They’re sending people who have a lot of problems,” Trump said at New York City’s Trump Tower.
“They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists,” he said. “And some, I assume, are good people.”
Clinton linked former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and the other GOP 2016 presidential contenders to Trump’s comments during her interview on Tuesday night.
“Well, he doesn’t believe in a path to citizenship,” she said of Bush. "If he did at one time, he no longer does.”
“And so pretty much they’re … on a spectrum of, you know, hostility … all the way to kind of grudging acceptance but refusal to go with a pathway to citizenship,” Clinton added of the Republican presidential field.
Trump’s remarks have cost him multiple business partnerships over the last month.
Macy’s, NASCAR, NBC and Univision have all severed corporate ties with the outspoken billionaire following his incendiary remarks.

Trump Keeps Speaking Plainly Even Though Weak Moral Companies Leave Him. He Will Get The Last Laugh!

Donald Trump Issues New Statement On Mexican Immigrants

Donald Trump Issues New Statement On Mexican Immigrants
imrs.php
As businesses continue to cut ties to GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump – including NBCUnivision and ESPN –  the former Celebrity Apprentice star this afternoon issued another statement, developing his controversial theme about Mexican immigration.
In his latest statement, Trump acknowledges “I have lost a lot during this Presidential run” because of his statements about Immigrants made in his June 16 campaign announcement, which today he described as “defending the people of the United States.”
“I have always heard that it is very hard for a successful person to run for President. Macy’s, NBC, Serta and NASCAR have all taken the weak and very sad position of being politically correct even though they are wrong in terms of what is good for our country,” Trump said today.
His initial comments caused Univision and NBC to cancel plans to air the Miss USA and Miss Universe Pageants, and ESPN to announce it is moving its ESPY Celebrity Golf Classic on July 14 from Trump National Golf Club to Pelican Hill Golf Club in Newport Beach, among other companies walking away from Trump, among the companies that have cut ties to Trump.
In his latest statement, Trump cited the weekend slaying of a woman in San Francisco as evidence of the truth of his position. Kate Steinle was struck by a bullet Saturday in what is believed to have been a random killing. The man accused of her murder is an undocumented immigrant and repeat felon who has been deported five times to Mexico. Trump, today said, “This is merely one of thousands of similar incidents throughout the United States. In other words, the worst elements in Mexico are being pushed into the United States by the Mexican government.”
In his new statement, Trump also notes “many fabulous people come in from Mexico” legally, “and our country is better for it,” adding, “I am proud to say that I know many hard working Mexicans—many of them are working for and with me…and, just like our country, my organization is better for it.”
Here is his statement, in full:
Statement from Donald J. Trump:
I don’t see how there is any room for misunderstanding or misinterpretation of the statement I made on June 16th during my Presidential announcement speech. Here is what I said, and yet this statement is deliberately distorted by the media:
“When Mexico (meaning the Mexican Government) sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you (pointing to the audience). They’re not sending you (pointing again). They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems to us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people! But I speak to border guards and they tell us what we’re getting. And it only makes common sense. They’re sending us not the right people. It’s coming from more than Mexico. It’s coming from all over South and Latin America, and it’s coming probably from the Middle East. But we don’t know. Because we have no protection and we have no competence, we don’t know what’s happening. And it’s got to stop and it’s got to stop fast.”
What can be simpler or more accurately stated? The Mexican Government is forcing their most unwanted people into the United States. They are, in many cases, criminals, drug dealers, rapists, etc. This was evident just this week when, as an example, a young woman in San Francisco was viciously killed by a 5 time deported Mexican with a long criminal record, who was forced back into the United States because they didn’t want him in Mexico. This is merely one of thousands of similar incidents throughout the United States. In other words, the worst elements in Mexico are being pushed into the United States by the Mexican government. The largest suppliers of heroin, cocaine and other illicit drugs are Mexican cartels that arrange to have Mexican immigrants trying to cross the borders and smuggle in the drugs. The Border Patrol knows this. Likewise, tremendous infectious disease is pouring across the border. The United States has become a dumping ground for Mexico and, in fact, for many other parts of the world. On the other hand, many fabulous people come in from Mexico and our country is better for it. But these people are here legally, and are severely hurt by those coming in illegally. I am proud to say that I know many hard working Mexicans—many of them are working for and with me…and, just like our country, my organization is better for it.
The Mexican Government wants an open border as long as it’s a ONE WAY open border into the United States. Not only are they killing us at the border, but they are killing us on trade … and the country of Mexico is making billions of dollars in doing so.
I have great respect for Mexico and love their people and their peoples’ great spirit. The problem is, however, that their leaders are far smarter, more cunning, and better negotiators than ours. To the citizens of the United States, who I will represent far better than anyone else as President, the Mexican government is not our friend…and why should they be when the relationship is totally one sided in their favor on both illegal immigration and trade. I have pointed this out during my speeches and it is something Mexico doesn’t want me to say. In actuality, it was only after my significant rise in the polls that Univision, previously my friend, went ballistic. I believe that my examples of bad trade deals for the United States was of even more concern to the Mexican government than my talk of border security.
I have lost a lot during this Presidential run defending the people of the United States. I have always heard that it is very hard for a successful person to run for President. Macy’s, NBC, Serta and NASCAR have all taken the weak and very sad position of being politically correct even though they are wrong in terms of what is good for our country. Univision, because 70% of their business comes from Mexico, in my opinion, is being dictated to by the Mexican Government. The last thing Mexico wants is Donald Trump as President in that I will make great trade deals for the United States and will have an impenetrable border–only legally approved people will come through easily.
Interestingly, Univision has just announced they are attempting to go public despite very poor and even negative earnings, which is not a good situation for a successful IPO or high stock price—not to mention that I am currently suing them for breach of contract. Remember, Univision is the one who began this charade in the first place, and they are owned by one of Hillary Clinton’s biggest backers. After the speech was made, there were numerous compliments and indeed, many rave “reviews”—there was very little criticism. It wasn’t until a week after my announcement that people started to totally distort these very easy to understand words. If there was something stated incorrectly, it would have been brought up immediately and with great enthusiasm.
The issues I have addressed, and continue to address, are vital steps to Make America Great Again! Additionally, I would be the best jobs President that God ever created. Let’s get to work!
