The Hollowing Out Of A Great Organization

Boy Scouts Lose 425,000 Boys 1 Week After Announcing Name Change

The Scouts should have been prepared for this.
One week after the century-old Boy Scouts of America announced it was changing its nameand its mission to accept girls at all levels of scouting, its single biggest participant announced Tuesday that it was cutting ties to the Scouts.
And taking one-fifth of the Scouts membership with it.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, usually known as the Mormons, announced Tuesday that it was severing its relationship with the Scouts effective Dec. 31, 2019, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.
In a statement issued jointly by the church and the Scouts, the church explained the move by noting that its membership was more global now than ever, and required a global approach.
“In this century of shared experience, the church has grown from a U.S.-centered institution to a worldwide organization, with a majority of its membership living outside the United States,” the joint statement said.
“That trend is accelerating. The church has increasingly felt the need to create and implement a uniform youth leadership and development program that serves its members globally. In so doing it will be necessary for the church to discontinue its role as a chartered partner with BSA.”
As far as minimizing the Scouts’ embarrassment, that’s not a bad spin — no policy changes are cited. It’s explained as a natural part of the church’s evolution.

Would you pull your boys out of the Scouts?

But there’s no doubt that the Scouts’ increasing willingness to give in to liberal pressure on key points had a lot to do with the Mormons’ discontent.
As noted by the Deseret News — a Salt Lake City newspaper owned by a subsidiary of a holding company owned by the church — the “signs of strain of strain began to emerge years ago.”
It was five years ago that the Scouts voted to admit openly gay boys into the organization. The Mormon church said it had always allowed gays to join but the tension was building.
Three years ago, when the Scouts decided to admit gay Scoutmasters, the church said it would stay with the Scouts after the organization recognized “the right of all religious chartered organizations to select their Scout leaders in accordance with their religious beliefs,” the Deseret News reported.
In May of last year, the church decided to drop Scouting from church programs for boys aged 14-17, according to the Deseret News. That coincided with the Scouts’ decision to accept “transgender” boys — i.e. girls pretending to be boys — into the organization.

Now, six days after the Boy Scouts of America announced an epochal change in the group’s mission — complete with changing its name by 2019 to the bloodless, corporate Scouts BSA, the church has announced an end to all ties between the organizations.
From the outside, it looked inevitable.
The Scouts have apparently decided the group’s future consists of a never-ending progression of appeasement to the forces of political correctness, a cycle that’s ultimately hollowing out an organization that used to be revered for its influence on American youths.
The Mormon Church can see where that’s going — just like any sensible person can. Its decision to end the 105-year partnership between the organizations means 425,000 boys will leave an organization of 2.3 million within the next two years.
That’s almost one out of every five, and it’s going to hurt badly. But it only came after a series of decisions made by the Scouts themselves.
One Scout leader in Utah told the Deseret News that the news of the announcent didn’t come out of the blue, but it wasn’t expected now.
“It’ll be a blow,” said Mark Griffin, president of the BSA’s Great Salt Lake Council. “We can’t say that it was a total surprise. Maybe the timing is a surprise, but we knew the church was working on a program for a worldwide church but that any changes would be based on the need to do the same program in Paris, France, as they have in Paris, Texas.”
And a program that won’t be vulnerable to regular attacks from the American left.
They should have been prepared.
What do you think?

One American Killed In London And HIs Wife Was Hurt Badly

Utah man killed in London attack,

wife badly injured

By Gina Cherelus | NEW YORK
A Utah man was killed and his wife badly injured during Wednesday's attack
near Britain's Parliament in London, relatives of the couple said on Thursday.
Kurt Cochran, 54, and his wife, Melissa, were in Europe to celebrate
their 25th wedding anniversary and had been due to return to the
United States on Thursday, according to his brother-in-law, Clinton Payne.
The couple were struck by a sports utility vehicle that plowed into
pedestrians on Westminster Bridge, Payne said in a statement.
Three people were killed in the attack, including Kurt Cochran and
a policeman who was stabbed to death. Cochran's wife was among
about 40 others who were injured.
The killer, named on Thursday as British-born Khalid Masood, was
 shot to death by police.
Cochran's wife was hospitalized for treatment after suffering a broken
leg and rib, and a cut to her head, Payne said. She was expected to recover.
"Our hearts ache for her and their children in losing their loving
companion and father," Payne said.
It was not immediately clear how many children the couple had.
U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his condolences.
"A great American, Kurt Cochran, was killed in the London terror
attack," Trump wrote on Twitter. "My prayers and condolences are
 with his family and friends."
The Cochrans were self-employed and had built up a recording
studio business over the last 10 years, according to a GoFundMe page
created by the family to help pay for Melissa Cochran's treatment.
They lived in Bountiful, a city about 10 miles (16 km) north of Salt Lake City.
The Cochrans were well known in the area for donating their recording
and audio skills to local school productions, "other worthy causes"
and their hometown's Summerfest arts and music festival, Payne
 wrote on the GoFundMe page.
Emma Dugal, executive director of the Bountiful
Davis Art Center, which hosts the annual
celebration, described Kurt Cochran as a "sincere
and loving friend" and said he had helped out
with the Summerfest for at least seven years.
"We are still in shock," Dugal said in a phone
interview. "He really got this soundstage off
the ground and provided opportunities for local
artist to perform. Some of them have gone on
 to have recording careers."
The couple were visiting Melissa Cochran's parents, who are missionaries
in London for the Salt Lake City-based Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints (LDS), also known as the Mormon church, LDS
spokesman Eric Hawkins said in an email.
Kurt Cochran's most recent photo uploads on his Facebook page
depicted scenes from their vacation in Europe, including one of him
smiling while holding a large glass of Belgian beer.
"This pain is so heart-wrenching and raw, it has rocked our family,"
another relative, Shantell Payne, wrote on Facebook. "We will miss
 Kurt beyond words."

Are Romney Supporters Nuts? Why Not Just Flush The Election Down The Toilet And Elect Obama Again?

Mitt Romney Loyalists May Launch WH Bid at Convention Floor

A group of former GOP nominee Mitt Romney's wealthy donors and loyalists are planning to push for his nomination from the convention floor next year in Cleveland, the author of a new book about the party's plans to take over the White House claims.

"In recent months, Romney loyalists have told me (on condition of anonymity) that [Donald] Trump's rise has added urgency to their strategizing," Buzzfeed writer McKay Coppins says in a Friday article.

"One former Romney fundraiser said he was in contact with several serious 2012 donors and fundraisers — particularly wealthy Mormons and people in private equity — who were 'keeping their powder dry' in hopes that Mitt would enter the race."
In his book, "The Wilderness: Deep Inside the Republican Party's Combative, Contentious, Chaotic Quest to Take Back the White House," which was released earlier this month, Coppins writes that when Romney pulled out of the race earlier, his confidants urged him not to take himself out of the running, laying out a scenario in which the party would be too divided to pick a single nominee.

Even Romney's statement when pulling out of the race, when he said it "seems unlikely" if he'd change his mind, kept hope alive, said Coppins in the book.

"There are bitter-enders who have read that statement a hundred times, and they think it's going to happen — maybe on the floor of the convention," he wrote in the book that one of the fundraisers told him.

Romney's camp did not respond to requests for comments for Friday's story, but he has often said he will not seek the nomination.
Latest News Update

But in his book, Coppins said some insiders had begun a "Draft Mitt" strategy.

And last month, The Washington Post reported that the GOP was in a panic over the possibility of Donald Trump or Ben Carson winning the nomination, and that Romney's friends had "mapped out a strategy for a late entry to pick up delegates and vie for the nomination in a convention fight, according to the Republicans who were briefed on the talks."

Their plan, though, was not outlined.

But, Collins said Romney loyalists have told him that Trump's climb to power is adding to the urgency to their call, and one said he was in contact with several of Romney's backers from 2012 who are hoping he enters the race.

Further, Romney friend Spencer Zwick has refused offers from several GOP candidates this year, leaving him open to join with Romney. Coppins said that Zwick told him earlier this year that he was focusing on defeating Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton, and he now leads House Speaker Paul Ryan's fundraising efforts.
But there are reasons to doubt the reports of such a plan, Coppins conceded, and Romney could even reject the nomination, if it is presented.

Also, convention rules say candidates need a majority of delegates from each of eight states, which could be difficult to obtain for Romney, but his loyalists say his "sense of duty will ultimately win out," Coppins concludes.

Why Are Someone's Christianity Beliefs Important?

“Are you going to run as a person who’s going to govern for everyone, or are you running on your Christian beliefs?”
That was the question noted stateswoman Whoopi Goldberg asked Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina on “The View” this week.
Let’s reframe the question a few other ways and see how it flies on the bigotry scale:
  • “Are you going to run as a person who’s going to govern for everyone, or are you running on your Jewish beliefs?”
  • “Are you going to run as a person who’s going to govern for everyone, or are you running on your Catholic beliefs?”
  • “Are you going to run as a person who’s going to govern for everyone, or are you running on your Mormon beliefs?”
  • “Are you going to run as a person who’s going to govern for everyone, or are you running on your Muslim beliefs?”
Would even Whoopi Goldberg ask any of those questions of a presidential candidate? Or would even she have enough common sense, discernment and sensitivity to think before speaking?
What’s even more bizarre is that nearly every single U.S. president in history – including Barack Obama – has, at the very least, claimed to be a Christian. The only one who got questions like this in my lifetime was John F. Kennedy, a Catholic. Some wanted to know whether he would take his cues from the pope. Those who asked questions like that, even 55 years ago, were, as I recall, roundly and rightly condemned for their bigotry.
I waited a few days to see if the condemnations of Whoopi Goldberg would be forthcoming. While a few news and opinion outlets reported the amazingly distasteful and undignified exchange, I have yet to see any denunciation of the actress-comedienne and TV host. None. Nada. Zip. Zilch.
Most focused on the point Goldberg was trying to make. Here’s the entire context:
Goldberg: “I’m sorry, I got to ask this question. The first part of it is you’re running, I assume you’re a person who is very, sort of, pro-life. Are you going to run as a person who’s going to govern for everyone, or are you running on your Christian beliefs? … Because you said some wonderful things and it made me ask the question. If you feel that women should have choices, why do you think choice is not a good thing?”
Fiorina: “Well, look, I think that abortion is obviously a delicate subject. I happen to believe that science is proving us right. The DNA in a zygote is the same as the day you die. But I know we don’t all agree. We do have common ground – the majority of women, young people and Americans now think that late-term abortion is a problem.”
I might have answered the question a little bit differently than Fiorina did. She might have focused on the inherent and obvious bigotry. Maybe Carly was playing nice. Presidential candidates often do. A different answer might have made the point. It might have brought the bigger issue to the forefront of the news. It might have made headlines.
But, frankly, it shouldn’t be up to the candidate to point out the bigotry in the question. It ought to be up to each of us.
It seems today the only form of religious bigotry that is in vogue and acceptable is the anti-Christian form. And it’s apparently acceptable and fashionable to demonstrate it even on national television.
The times they are a-changing indeed.
What’s strange about this phenomenon is that we live in a society and culture where everyone is walking around on eggshells so as not to offend. You can’t offend anyone these days except Christians. It’s open season on them.
If I’m not mistaken, Hillary Clinton still professes a Christian faith. Why is it that she won’t get a question like that? Obviously, because Hillary’s beliefs are out-of-synch with any Christian worldview. That kind of “Christian” is OK for the Whoopi Goldbergs of the world. That’s their kind of “Christian” – the Obama kind.
Tell me why this is anything other than raw, unadulterated, conspicuous, indisputable, non-debatable, palpable, barefaced bigotry. And why is Goldberg still on television?
