Here are the demands of DC’s ‘Day Without Immigrants’ protesters

As workers strike and restaurants shutter Thursday in support of immigrants, organizers of Washington, D.C.’s “Day Without Immigrants” protest are demanding much more than an end to President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.

Stores and restaurants nationwide remained closed Thursday or sold only limited food and products to show support for immigrants and showcase how migrants are integral in the U.S. economy and everyday life.

And in the nation’s capital, strikers — which are “predominantly immigrant,” according to organizers — plan to march to the White House around noon following a morning gathering of food, music and information about immigrant rights.

A Facebook event page for the District protest included a litany of demands from those protesting — and it’s not just about Trump’s immigration policies or temporary travel ban.

The demands include:

• The removal of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers from Washington, D.C.;
• Local governments must make up for financial losses from federal funds stripped from so-called “sanctuary cities”;
• The immediate passage and funding of the Language Access for Education Amendment Act of 2015, which would increase the standards of language access of education and government series for all non-English proficient D.C. residents, according to Councilmember David Grosso at the time;
• The removal of the undocumented mark from D.C. driver’s licenses;
• Affirmation that Washington, D.C. will not support the creation of a Muslim registry or surveillance; and
• Cease “unchecked police violence committed against immigrants, including black people and all people of color.”

The protest demands also include protection for those who participate in Thursday’s event from termination from their jobs.

Protesters also rallied against Trump’s promise to crackdown on illegal immigration — including the promise of a border wall between the U.S. and Mexico, a temporary immigration ban from several Muslim-majority countries and the stripping of federal funds from sanctuary cities.

A spokesperson for the conservative research nonprofit America Rising Squared said Thursday that the full list of demands show that the protests aren’t so much about supporting immigrants as it is supporting illegal immigration.

“This absurd list of demands makes clear that the so-called ‘Day Without Immigrants’ is actually a far-left pro-illegal immigration effort — not standing up for workers,” Nathan Brand said in a statement.

More than 750 Facebook users RSVP’d that they would attend the event, and more than 1,200 said they were interested in the event.

Some D.C. schools closed Thursday due to the protest.

(Breitbart) — Muslim students at the University of Maryland are asking administrators to put a prayer room in every major campus building as part of a long list of demands.

Students at the University of Maryland have put together a list of 64 demands to administrators in their ProtectUMD initiative to make the campus more hospitable to “marginalized student populations,” including Muslims, Campus Reform reports.

Other demands by Muslim students to administrators include being provided shuttle bus services to the local mosque and a request that “their names be kept from President-elect Donald Trump if he creates a nationwide Muslim registry,” the Daily Mail reported.

Students said they had difficulty accessing the current prayer room and “often resorted to praying in stairwells as a result.”

Donald Trump said he is still considering the registry after the Islamic extremist attack on Berlin’s Christmas market Wednesday.

Students asked to be protected from a potential Muslim registry because the university has information on each enrolled student.

“It would provide a sense of safety if we knew the university wasn’t the one giving the government that information about us and feeling like our administration is protecting us and willing to do that carries some value,” Sarah Eshera told student newspaper The Diamondback. 

Other “marginalized” groups also included their own list of demands into the master list. One demand from “undocumented students” would require the University of Maryland to become a “sanctuary campus.”…

Just days after the mainstream media blamed "fake news" for the rise
of Donald Trump, the totally objective non-partisan in no way in the tank
 for Hillary Clinton mainstream media decided to engage in some "fake
 news" of its own.

This morning, Trump Chief of Staff Reince Priebus joined Chuck Todd to
discuss the widely misunderstood "Muslim registry" being pushed by the
Trump camp. Here's that clip:

Priebus' words: "Look I'm not going to rule out anything," Priebus said. "We're 
not going to have a registry based on a religion. But what I think what we're
 trying to do is say that there are some people, certainly not all people... there
 are some people that are radicalized. And there are some people that have 
to be prevented from coming into this country. And Donald Trump's position, 
President Trump's position is consistent with bills in the House and the Senate 
that say the following: If you want to come from a place or an area around the 
world that harbors and trains terrorists, we have to temporarily suspend that 
operation until a better vetting system is put in place."

Here's how NBC News chose to tweet about it:

I don't know about you, but to me this looks like NBC News is intentionally
 cutting off the most relevant section of the quote in order to mislead readers
 into believing that Reince Priebus is saying that Muslim Americans will have
 to join a registry. But that's not what he's saying at all. Priebus instead rules
 out religious registry, shifting to the very common sense notion of vetting and
 perhaps registering visitors and immigrants from so-called terror hot-spots, an
entirely reasonable and entirely constitutional proposal.

So this looks like that "fake news" the mainstream media warned us about.

Predictably, intelligent conservatives let them have it:

Look, it's very simple: The so called mainstream media is just as partisan and
agenda driven as the so called new, partisan media, and the average news
consumer now prefers sources that are honest about this bent. They were
completely invested in a Hillary victory, just as now they're completely invested
in a Trump failure, and it is so transparent that even the most ignorant news
consumer can see it. As the Federalist's David Harsanyi put it:

In fact, it’s possible one of the reasons voters are more easily taken in by fake

news (and I see no proof that it’s more likely today than it was in the past) is

that they have solid reasons not to believe the media. The way media covered

the 2016 race, acting as Trump had absolutely no chance of winning,

probably reinforces this perception among many Americans. This post-

election coverage is not going to change anyone’s mind.

In hot pursuit of something to use against Donald Trump, the liberal media is so busy chasing their collective tail that the truth of the fabled “Muslim registry” story has been lost under layers of inaccuracies.

The real story is revealed in a video that clearly shows Trump never proposed a “Muslim registry” and that stories saying he did built a mountain of innuendo without a fact to start.

“The left-wing liars at CNN have intentionally edited the video to make it look as though Trump said ‘absolutely’ to a Muslim registry,” wrote John Nolte on Breitbart.

Nolte said it is time the Republican Party stood up to the media.

“It is time for Reince Priebus and the Republican Party to stand up these left-wing hit squads disguising themselves as journalists,” Nolte wrote. “CNN should not be allowed within a country mile of a GOP debate.”

The video, posted on the Gateway Pundit, shows that the entire “Muslim registry” concept was the brainchild of a reporter and that Trump’s so-called agreement to the idea is based on trick editing.

The incident took place Thursday.

“Should there be a database system that tracks Muslims who are in this country?” the reporter asks.

“There should be a lot of systems, beyond databases. We should have a lot of systems, and today you can do it,” he said.

Trump then added comments not reported by CNN and other liberal media outlets.

“But right now we need to have a border, we have to have strength, we have to have a wall, and we cannot let what’s happening to this country happen any longer,” Trump said.

In the wake of Trump’s comments on a wall, the report then asks, “Is that something your White House would like to implement?”

“I would certainly implement that. Absolutely,” Trump said.

The full conversation makes it clear Trump was not talking about a registry, but fortifying the border.

Trump, who has never shied away from controversy, maintained throughout Friday and Saturday that he never called for a “registry.”

“I didn’t suggest a database-a reporter did. We must defeat Islamic terrorism & have surveillance, including a watch list, to protect America,” Trump tweeted.

Radio host Rush Limbaugh said the furor provoked by the reports of a “Muslim registry” will not sink Trump.

“This isn’t gonna hurt Trump.  Even their journalistic malpractice is not gonna hurt Trump. They haven’t figured that out.  They keep applying standard, ordinary, everyday tactics on hit pieces to Donald Trump, and all that happens as a result is that Trump increases his support,” Limbaugh said Friday.

“Trump’s support gets stronger. It gets deeper every time they try something like this because Trump is dead serious about protecting this country and its borders and keeping terrorists and so forth out of the country,” Limbaugh said.
