President Trump will donate his first three months of salary to the National Park Service, White House press secretary Sean Spicer announced Monday. 

"The president has spoken with counsel and made the decision to donate his first-quarter salary to a government entity," Spicer said at Monday's briefing.

Spicer handed a check for $78,333.32 for the National Park Service to Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke. Spicer said the paycheck starts from Jan. 20, when Trump took office, until now.

At Monday's briefing, Zinke said the donation will go to the maintaining historic battlefield sites.

During the campaign, Trump vowed that he wouldn’t take the presidency's $400,000 annual salary if elected, and he repeated that promise after his victory in November.

Last month, Spicer said Trump would donate his salary at the end of the year and asked the press to weigh in on where the donations should go.

nbcnewyork.com reports: National park police are investigating how a banner reading "Refugees Welcome" got on to the Statue of Liberty Tuesday afternoon. The banner, measuring about 3 feet by 20 feet, was unfurled atop the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty just before 1 p.m., according to the National Park Service. It was affixed by nylon rope to the wall of the public observation deck at the base of statue, according to the NPS. Rangers took it down more than an hour later. Attaching banners to national monuments is prohibited. The United States Park Police are working to identify the suspects. Someone running a social media account named Alt Statue of Liberty has claimed credit for the stunt. A person using the same email told NBC 4 New York, "We have no formal group -- just private citizens who felt like we needed to say something about the America we believe in." The stunt happened the same day the Homeland Security Department announced expanded immigration enforcement policies.

Rev. Franklin Graham, president and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and of the international aid organization, Samaritan’s Purse, took to Facebook Friday to issue a strong condemnation against President Obama’s plans to declare a national monument in New York City in recognition of the “gay”-rights struggle.

“A monument to sin? That’s unbelievable,” Graham wrote, of the Obama administration’s announced plans to declare the nation’s first “gay”-rights monument at a Greenwich Village spot loosely known as the birthplace of the LGBT liberation movement, as WND previously reported.

The spot, Stonewall Inn, was a noted “gay” bar and hang-out area that was the site of violent 1969 protests against police intervention.

Just days ago, the Obama administration announced an intent to declare the area a taxpayer-funded historical national monument, under the umbrella of National Parks Service oversight.

Graham slammed the plan, calling it a smack in the face of others who were much more worthy of the recognition.

“War heroes deserve a monument,” he wrote. “Our nation’s Founding Fathers deserve a monument, people who helped to make America strong deserve a monument – but a monument to sin?”

Graham also said such a monument only shows how far the nation has fallen from its Judeo-Christian start, and from God.

“It’s no surprise that the three officials who represent the area and support the monument are all openly gay,” Graham wrote. “I can’t believe how far our country has digressed. I hope that the president will reconsider. Flaunting sin is a dangerous move. God’s Word tells us, ‘Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.'”
