governor has told reporters she is refusing their request. If Governor
Whitmer was willing to testify before Congress, shouldn’t she testify before
the legislature of her own state, and give answers to the people of Michigan
on how this crisis was handled?

lawmakers ask Whitmer to testify on COVID-19 response

Republican lawmakers have requested Michigan Gov. Gretchen
Whitmer testify before a joint, bipartisan committee created to review her
response to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Joint Select Committee on the COVID-19 pandemic has
brought in state employees to testify on delays within the state unemployment
system as layoffs in Michigan surged during a statewide shutdown.
But those witnesses were not able to answer all of the
questions lawmakers posed and often deferred to the governor, said Rep. Matt
Hall, the Marshall Republican who chairs the committee.
“Gov. Whitmer can provide additional answers and clarity to
the decisions she has made, while upholding state government as transparent
and accountable to the people it represents,” Hall said in a Thursday
statement Thursday.
The bipartisan committee requested Whitmer’s presence at
July 8 meeting, noting she’d already done as much for congressional leaders
during a Tuesday U.S. House of Representatives committee hearing.
“State legislators have been unable to be a part of this
process and, in turn, the people we represent have been unable to have their
voices and concerns heard,” said Sen. Aric Nesbitt, the Lawton Republican who
serves as vice chairman on the committee. “This would provide a valuable
opportunity for people throughout the state to get answers to the questions
they’ve been trying to ask through their local elected officials.”
Whitmer will review the request, spokeswoman Tiffany Brown
said.
The letter sent to the governor Thursday noted Whitmer’s
participation in the hearing will help in “upholding state government as
accountable and transparent to the people it represents.”
“Doing so will help deliver answers to that single mom who has
gone weeks without a paycheck, or the Main Street business owner who doesn’t
have a Wall Street-sized legal team to interpret the many executive orders
leaving them in limbo,” the letter said.
The state Legislature is locked in a legal battle with the
governor, challenging her authority to extend her emergency declaration so as
to continue her stay-home executive orders. The Legislature has argued in
part the indefinite continuation of the emergency declaration usurps the
authority of the Legislature as the sole lawmaking body.
A Court of Claims judge ruled in May that Whitmer has the
authority to extend the emergency declaration under a 1945 law, but not under
a similar law enacted in 1976. The ruling has been appealed.

Dictator Gov Gretchen Whitmer: Police Will MONITOR Conversations of Protestors
(TheLibertyRevolution.Com)- Democratic Governor of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer, proved just how authoritarian she is this week when she told residents of her state that if they dare to challenge her excessive lockdown order, the police might monitor their conversations.
Yes, this is really happening.
On Thursday, Governor Whitmer told journalists that Michigan state police are already “monitoring all of the conversations” of protestors who are planning to descend on the capitol to protest her lockdown orders again. This is coming from a woman who issues three executive orders to extend the initial lockdown, who ignored Republican lawmakers in her state to advance her own partisan agenda, and who is even being sued over her decision to extend the lockdown.
During a press conference, Whitmer was asked about what proof she has that the protestors she is so unhappy about have spread the virus after demonstrating outside the capitol building.
“I saw one report, I don’t have proof,” she said, unsurprisingly. “I’m not following everybody home and taking their temperatures and watching them for two weeks.”
Whitmer argued that protestors were “touching each other,” and cited that as evidence the protests were dangerous.
She also described how a team had analyzed cell phone data in the state and it “translates to where we’re seeing hot spots in rural parts of Michigan.” She then admitted she doesn’t know the group who analyzed it, can’t vouch for it, and hasn’t vetted the data.
Then it got interesting. Whitmer was asked what she “wants to see” Michigan state police doing about the protestors, to which she responded she believes the police force is already monitoring their conversations.
“I think the Michigan State Police is monitoring all of the conversations around this event tomorrow – that they are prepared and are working with the attorney general,” she explained, before admitting she would be willing to ticket protestors “if there’s reason to do it.”
It comes after her attorney general told residents that the 77-year-old barber who opened his barbershop in defiance of her lockdown order was “not a patriot.”
It’s as though the Democrats in Michigan are doing everything they can to make residents angry while refusing to admit that they might have gotten something wrong.

Michigan official says ANY protester brandishing a firearm should be arrested at tomorrow's stay-at-home rally set for the Capitol after Gov. Gretchen Whitmer received death threats

Protesters in Michigan planning to rally at the state Capitol on Thursday are being warned that if they brandish firearms in an intimidating manner at the event they could be arrested.
The warnings come after several members of the groups planning on attending the rally called for the assassination of Governor Gretchen Whitmer which saw one man writing: 'Can we please just take up a collection for an assassin to put that woman from Michigan down.'
On Monday, Whitmer said she respected people's rights to protest but was becoming 'increasingly concerned about the violent nature of the comments being made' and the 'extreme rhetoric already connected to Thursday's rally.'

She has requested that if people decide to protest that they wear masks and practice social distancing.
On Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey said that despite a longstanding rule that Michiganders with permits can bring weapons into the Capitol, 'anyone brandishing them in such a way as to intimidate or threaten anyone else should be properly handcuffed, properly taken in and fingerprinted.
'Law enforcement needs to take this upon their own hands,' Shirkey said. 'When those brandishing activities occur, they need to be addressed and I'm calling on the attorney general and the governor to do so with the cooperation of the Michigan State Police.'
There have also been suggestions that Michigan State Police will back up the governor's orders on social distancing and could hand out legal citations to those breaking guidelines.

Last month, angry and armed demonstrators protesting the governor's lockdown restrictions, stormed the Capitol building. They have been warned not to do so during Thursday's rally
Protesters tried to enter the Michigan House of Representative chamber and were kept out by the Michigan State Police on April 30
'Based on previous demonstrations at the Capitol, it is evident that not all people voluntarily comply with the safety measures put in place,' said state police spokeswoman Shanon Banner to Freep.com. 'We will be prepared to take enforcement action, as necessary.'
Facebook has removed one of the groups called Michigan United for Liberty, which organized a rally at the Capitol last month.
A Facebook spokesperson said the group was removed because it violated the company's policy against inciting violence.
The threats come just days before a planned rally at the Capitol in Lansing on Thursday. Several members wrote in the groups that they will be at the rally and hope others will be 'armed to the teeth'.

The group are opposed to Whitmer's sweeping stay-at-home orders intended to combat the spread of coronavirus.
Hundreds of people descended on Michigan's Capitol building on April 30 to protest against Whitmer extending a statewide stay-at-home order and earlier in the month.
Earlier in the month, thousands of cars shut down traffic around the Capitol.
Photos from the 'American Patriot Rally' made headlines nationwide as many protesters were seen carrying assault rifles, swastikas and Confederate flags.
Whitmer called the scenes 'disturbing' and said they 'depicted some of the worst racism and awful parts of our history in this country'.
State Police say they are expecting to see between 200 and 400 people at Thursday's rally.
