War With Iran?

Is War with Iran on the Horizon?

On May 5th, John Bolton – Trump’s National Security advisor – announced that the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier had been deployed to the Middle East in response to growing hostility from Tehran and intelligence which suggested that the Iranians were planning an attack on US forces in the region. Bolton said that the carrier’s deployment was meant to “send a clear message to Iran”.
On May 7th, the Pentagon announced that the United States was bolstering its military muscle in the region even further by sending a group of B-52 bombers to the region as well.
Gathering forces in the Middle East may not amount to a declaration of war, but it is certainly a precursor to war. Of course, the United States has deployed ships and forces to regions many times before and likely does so on a regular basis without announcing it to the American people.
So is war with Iran really on the horizon, or will the growing tensions come to an anticlimactic end?
During the Obama administration, Iran had little reason to want a war with the United States. Under the Iran Nuclear Deal, the country was given everything they wanted. Their economy flourished, they were allowed to continue their ballistic missile program, they were allowed to continue sponsoring terrorist activity in the region, and – unburdened by the close examination they are now under – they were even able to continue with elements of their nuclear program.
Once Trump took office, though, things ceased to be so easy for the Iranian government. The Iran Nuclear Deal was abolished, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard was labeled by the United States as a terrorist group, and Trump’s “maximum pressure” campaign against Iran enforced sanctions that have crippled their economy in only a matter of months.
While all of these things were exactly what needed to be done in order to counter the growing threat that Iran presents, these actions taken by the Trump administration have also backed Iran into a corner.
Now, Iran is left with only two real options – either abandon their hostilities and their ballistic missile and nuclear programs altogether or go to war. The country simply cannot survive under the sanctions that Trump has imposed much longer, and they certainly cannot continue with their plans to become the most powerful country in the region.
Assuming that Iran is unwilling to give up their nuclear ambitions and other ambitions that the United States opposes, war is quickly becoming their only option.
While these facts make it seem as if war with Iran is inevitable, war with the United States is also something that Iran can ill-afford. Both Israel and Saudi Arabia have already expressed their willingness to join the United States in a war against Iran.
Unless Iran is able to convince their allies in China and Russia that defending the Iranian regime is worth kicking off World War Three, Iran would likely find itself in a war that is impossible for them to win.
At the same time, though, the Iranian regime could see war as the only way to ease the pressure they are under and reclaim support from both their allies and the Iranian people – who have begun to rise up against the regime. They may also believe that they have a legitimate chance of defending their regime against the US.
Iran has certainly bolstered their military might enough over the years to put up a much more serious fight than the United States has faced in the Middle East thus far. While sending an aircraft carrier to the region is indeed the most powerful way for the United States to project force in Iranian territory, Iran has made no attempt to hide their desire to sink a US aircraft carrier, and, in the confined and shallow waters of the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, the possibility of Iranian submarines and/or ballistic missiles sinking the USS Abraham Lincoln is unfortunately not out of the question.
Such an attack would no doubt launch Iran into a full-blown war, but it would also amount to a devastating strike against the United States that may encourage the support of their Russian and Chinese allies.
For now, there are arguments to be made both for and against the likelihood of war with Iran. However, there is also no denying that we are now closer to war with Iran than we have ever been in the past.

Democrat Fear: The Real Reason Behind Barr Attacks

A new column in Fox News suggests that the real reason the Democrats
are attacking Bill Barr is that they are fearful of a new investigation launched
by the Attorney General into the circumstances surrounding the beginning of
the Trump-Russia investigation.

According to Fox News:
The only thing uglier than an angry Washington is a fearful Washington. And

fear is what’s driving this week’s blitzkrieg of Attorney General William Barr.

...

These attacks aren’t about special counsel Robert Mueller, his report or

even the surreal debate over Mr. Barr’s first letter describing the report. The

attorney general delivered the transparency Democrats demanded: He quickly

released a lightly redacted report, which portrayed the president in a negative

light. What do Democrats have to object to?

Some of this is frustration. Democrats foolishly invested two years of political

capital in the idea that Mr. Mueller would prove President Trump had colluded

with Russia, and Mr. Mueller left them empty-handed. Some of it is personal.

Democrats resent that Mr. Barr won’t cower or apologize for doing his job.

Some is bitterness that Mr. Barr is performing like a real attorney general,

making the call against obstruction-of-justice charges rather than sitting back

and letting Democrats have their fun with Mr. Mueller’s obstruction innuendo.

But most of it is likely fear. Mr. Barr made real news in that Senate hearing,

and while the press didn’t notice, Democrats did. The attorney general said

he’d already assigned people at the Justice Department to assist his

investigation of the origins of the Trump-Russia probe. He said his review

would be far-reaching – that he was obtaining details from congressional

investigations, from the ongoing probe by the department’s inspector general,

Michael Horowitz, and even from Mr. Mueller’s work. Mr. Barr said the

investigation wouldn’t focus only on the fall 2016 justifications for secret

surveillance warrants against Trump team members but would go back

months earlier.

Barr also promised to focus on the infamous dossier which was made by
former British spy Cristopher Steele and was a main component of FISA
warrants into the Trump campaign.

This Will Disappoint Liberals--Synagogue Shooter Was A Racist, Anti-Sematic, Trump Hating POS

Here's what we know so far about Robert Bowers, the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting suspect

(CNN)As officials try to put together a picture of the alleged Pittsburgh synagogue shooter, one focus of the investigation is his social media postings, the FBI said. Here's what we know so far about suspect Robert Bowers, 46:
He allegedly made anti-Semitic statements after his arrest
The shooter made anti-Jewish comments after he was apprehended, a law enforcement official told CNN. The bloodshed took place on the same day as Saturday Shabbat services. At the time of the shooting, three different congregations were holding services at the Tree of Life.
He was in the synagogue for about 20 minutes
At a Saturday afternoon news conference, officials said the suspect was in the Squirrel Hill synagogue for about 20 minutes. After the attack and as he was leaving the building, Bowers encountered a law enforcement officer and the two exchanged gunfire, officials said. The suspect went back inside to hide from SWAT officers. Bowers was in fair condition Saturday evening with multiple gunshot wounds, officials said. It's believed he was shot by police.
He was not known to law enforcement
"At this point we have no knowledge that Bowers was known to law enforcement before today," said Bob Jones, FBI Pittsburgh special agent in charge. Jones said that while Bowers' alleged motive is unknown, officials believed he acted alone.
He has an active license to carry firearms
Bowers has an active license and has made at least six known firearm purchases since 1996, a law enforcement official familiar with the investigation said. On September 29, Bowers posted photos of his handgun collection on his Gab.com account, which included multiple clips and sights. A rifle and three handguns were found on the scene of the attack, the FBI said.
He blamed Jews for helping migrant caravans
On his Gab.com account, Bowers claimed Jews were helping transport members of the migrant caravans. He shared a video that another Gab.com user posted, purportedly of a Jewish refugee advocacy group HIAS on the US-Mexico border. Another post that Bowers commented on described HIAS' overall efforts as "sugar-coated evil."
Seventeen days before the attack, Bowers posted a web page from HIAS that listed a number of Shabbats that were being held on behalf of refugees, an official said. On that list was a Shabbat address that is less than a mile away from the Tree of Life Synagogue. (The chief executive officer of HIAS, Mark Hetfield, said Bowers is not known to the group.)
He called those in migrant caravans 'invaders'
According to his posts, Bowers believed that those in the migrant caravans were violent because they were attempting to leave countries that had high levels of violence. And Bowers repeatedly called them "invaders" on his Gab posts. "I have noticed a change in people saying 'illegals' that now say 'invaders'," read one post, six days before the shooting. "I like this."
A law enforcement source confirmed to CNN that investigators believe the social media postings belong to Bowers and that the language on his account matches the suspected motivation behind the shootings.
His most recent post was five minutes before police were alerted to the shooting
In that Gab post, Bowers said he "can't sit by and watch my people get slaughtered. Screw your optics, I'm going in."
    Bowers' photo on Gab.com
His Gab account has frequent anti-Semitic postings
He has reposted a number of posts on his social media accounts that tell Jews to get out or leave. Gab is a social media platform that advocates for free speech and puts nearly no restrictions on content.
(In a statement posted online, Gab says it "unequivocally disavows and condemns all acts of terrorism and violence...Gab's mission is very simple: to defend free expression and individual liberty online for all people." Gab said it was alerted to the suspect's profile on their platform, backed up the data, suspended the account, and contacted the FBI.)
His posts included criticism of President Trump
Among the many anti-Semitic social media posts were comments suggesting that President Trump was surrounded by too many Jewish people. "Trump is surrounded by k****", "things will stay the course," read one post on the Gab social media platform, which used a derogatory term to describe Jews. Another post, apparently intended as an insult, read: "Trump is a globalist, not a nationalist," Bowers said two days before the shooting. "There is no #MAGA as long as there is a k*** infestation.
He said he didn't vote for Trump
Roughly four hours before the shooting, Bowers commented in a post that he did not vote for Trump.
He received a traffic citation in 2015
A CNN review of criminal records found a 2015 traffic citation against Bowers for allegedly driving without tags.
He's expected to face hate crime charges
Attorney General Jeff Sessions said the Department of Justice will file hate crimes and other criminal charges against the suspected attacker, "including charges that could lead to the death penalty."
