Rational Thought On An Irrational Subject

Climate Kids Need

I have a fourteen-year-old high school freshman at home.  I have a thirteen-year-old eighth-grader and an eleven-year-old fifth grader, too.  They attend some great public schools.  My wife and I are active participants in their lives and educations.  We’re proud of our kids.
Having said that, if I ever saw my kids participating in disgraceful displays like the nationwide climate change school walkout we witnessed?  I’d surrender as a parent.  I certainly wouldn’t be proud of them and I’d have to wonder where I went wrong.
The young climate cultists’ screaming, stomping, ranting, and in some cases tears of fear conjured in me not what these young protesters were aiming to achieve.  They didn’t inspire or animate me.  They made me feel deep sadness and pity.  Not for the atmosphere or the Earth, but for them.
I don’t hold my own kids up as particularly unique.  Nor is my parenting.  To be very clear, my kids aren’t perfect and I’m a flawed parent.  I often ponder my behaviors and words and how they might impact the course of their history or frame of mind as they grow.
Constantly I’m self-auditing, hoping to set a good example but also to catch and correct the bad examples I set.  Of which there have been too many to count.   Despite what I do for a living both on-air and here in writing, I don’t lecture my kids on my political beliefs over dinner or in the car.
If my kids learn a left-leaning concept from a relative or teacher and we overhear it or they ask us about it, my wife and I never attack the messenger.  We diplomatically and respectfully walk our kids through questions to challenge the point of view they’ve been fed.
Critical thinking is what it’s called.  Not a new concept to you if you’re reading this, I’m certain.  It’s not teaching people what to think, but to challenge them how to think.  It’s simply reasoning, deduction, and the humility to know what we don’t know.
My friend, meteorologist Joe Bastardi, has become a lightning rod for daring to simply question the orthodoxy of climate change alarmists.  The true believers of man made climate change viciously attack him simply because he questions.  Rather than even debate the merits of the argument, Bastardi once said something that really hit home for me.
“I’m willing to admit I could be wrong.  I’m willing to admit there are things we don’t know.  Why aren’t they willing?”  Those are questions rooted in humility.  You must possess humility to even entertain the possibility you’re wrong or don’t have all the answers.  But humility isn’t natural.  It’s taught.  It’s learned.  So what’s the source of humility?
It’s the thing my wife and I work harder at than anything else when raising our children.  It’s THE thing central in our lives and we hope it will be for them throughout their lives as well.
Our family’s humility is found in the worship of our Lord.
Please don’t read this as a suggestion there’s a right way or a wrong way to be a good person or to be humble.  If you’re someone who finds your source of humility in other ways, that’s great. If you don’t believe in God or something greater than human kind, I have no beef with you.
As for our home, we always operate from the assumption He’s bigger than us and is fully in control at all times.  He formed us and the place we call home and while we believe in being good stewards, not polluting, etc. – we certainly are not ready to surrender our quality of life because of the false religion that our cars, hamburgers, and light bulbs make hurricanes stronger or cause fires in the Amazon.
I want my kids to have a sense of something bigger and respect for things vastly out of their control.  Those kids weeping and screaming about the climate need something more in their lives.  They need adults to explain the majesty of nature and the billions of years of violent climate change on this planet before we ever arrived.
That we even exist in this perfect balance is nothing short of a miracle.  We can no more destroy this perfect balance than we could’ve created it.
Our time on this planet is less than a grain of sand in an hourglass, and we are but a speck while we’re here.  But to the culture of political and social media mobs, the entire world seems as if it’s at their fingertips and in their total control with a click of a send button.
Can you imagine being a pre-teen or early teen and thinking there’s no point in dreaming about your future?  It’s one thing if it’s natural depression, which is very real struggle.  But it’s quite another if that depression is learned and adopted because of fatalistic, political indoctrination from adults.
Hyper-partisan, political adults are misleading, abusing, and scaring our children leaving them feeling hopeless and desperate.  The alarming rate of suicide and depression among America’s youth is skyrocketing.  When you’re a kid and told you have ten years to live and the adults don’t care to save you, it’s not hard to understand.
American kids shouldn’t be filled with despair over secular, fake news when they should instead be filled with hope and joyful expectancy of the Good News.

Everytime She Opens Her Mouth She Proves That She Is An Idiot

Ocasio-Cortez Does It Again: ‘Americans Are Dying’ From Global Warming

Ocasio-Cortez Does It Again: 'Americans Are Dying' From Global Warming

 Print
Democratic socialist candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez may have met her toughest opponent yet … and it’s not a political challenger.
It’s reality.
The wide-eyed 28-year-old, who is running for Congress in New York, has already made a series of gaffes which call into question her grasp of basic economics and international relations.
Bernie-backed Ocasio-Cortez more recently put her foot in her mouth by declaring that Immigration and Customs Enforcement “sexually assaults women with impunity,” despite not having any solid evidence to back up this shocking claim.
That wild accusation was even more disturbing in light of the sexually-motivated murder of Mollie Tibbetts by an illegal alien, the exact kind of situation that ICE agents are working overtime to prevent.

The socialist candidate seems to be the gift that keeps on giving. Not deterred by her chain of blunders, Ocasio-Cortez made yet anther hysterical claim on Wednesday, and it’s about as far away from factual as possible.
In a hand-wringing Twitter post on August 22nd, she insisted that global warming was killing Americans.
“Our children’s lives are on the line,” Ocasio-Cortez began, getting an early start on the cliched hyperbole.

Do you believe Ocasio-Cortez should be called out for spreading hysteria with no facts?

“Americans are dying because of a government too coward (sic) to save the planet,” she continued. “It’s wrong. And we will need a Green New Deal to survive.”
Yes, Americans — but especially the children— are dying from climate change and unless we elect socialists like her, we won’t survive.
Setting aside the fact that the college-educated Democrat apparently can’t spell “cowardly,” there are more holes in her argument than even Al Gore sees in the ozone layer.
The socialist provided no backing for her over-the-top claim. Which Americans? Where? How? But don’t worry, we’re on the case anyway.
First is the pesky fact that life expectancy for Americans is going up, not down. A child born in the U.S. today can reasonably expect to live to be over 78 years old. That’s the highest it’s ever been, and up a whopping ten years from just 1963.

In other words, even if you believe that global warming has been increasing over the last half a century — something that experts are still debating — American life expectancy is increasing at the exact same time.
An inconvenient truth, indeed.
But what about pollution? Contrary to liberal claims that the U.S. desperately needs to join international agreements like the Paris accord in order to clean up its act, the data shows that America is leading the way when it comes to green living among major nations.
“In the most recent WHO report on air pollution, the United States was listed as one of the countries with the cleanest air in the world, significantly cleaner in fact than the air in Germany, Italy, Switzerland, the UK, Japan, Austria and France,” Breitbart recently explained.
Alright, but surely deadly hurricanes, like the one currently barreling down on Hawaii, can be blamed on global warming. Right?
Wrong. Despite attempts by the media to link a perceived increase in tropical storms to global warming, scientists say there just isn’t enough evidence to make that claim.
“It is premature to conclude that human activity — and particularly greenhouse warming — has already caused a detectable change in Atlantic hurricane activity,” the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration admitted earlier this year.
In simple terms, even if some experts suspect that hurricanes may become more intense at some point in the future, the data doesn’t show it happening yet, which completely deflates Ocasio-Cortez’s sweeping claim about “Americans dying” because of warming.
The former director of the National Hurricane Center said essentially the same thing during a CNN appearance last year, during much media hype about supposedly “unprecedented” storm activity near the United States.
“I’m not — I probably wouldn’t attribute what we’re looking at here (to global warming),” stated hurricane expert Bill Reed.
“This is not an uncommon occurrence to see storms grow and intensify rapidly in the western Gulf of Mexico,” he continued, taking the wind out of CNN’s sails. “That’s as long as we’ve been tracking them, that has occurred.”
Here’s the bottom line: Every good news outlet, including this one, is expected to base their stories on fact. That’s why we provide links to sources and have high editorial standards for every article.
Public officials and candidates for office must be held to the same general standard. When someone like Ocasio-Cortez runs their mouth, for lack of a better term, and spouts off fear-based nonsense with no factual sources, everyone loses.
The left claims to hold the high ground on science. That’s debatable, but the New York socialist’s hysteria-as-platform approach is the opposite of factual … and it’s ridiculous no matter where you fall on the political spectrum.

It Doesn't Take Government Pressure To Reduce Global Warming

The US reduced its carbon footprint more than any other nation, new report shows

The United States is leading the world in reducing its carbon footprint, as its carbon dioxide emissions decreased more than any other nation in 2017, according to a recent report by BP Global.
Although CO2 emissions rose worldwide by 1.6 percent, the U.S. cut its emissions by 0.5 percent, dropping its energy use emissions to the lowest number since 1992.

Free market efficiency

The numbers indicate that the free market could be much more effective in reducing emissions than heavy regulations. From Real Clear Energy:
In fact, the U.S. has slashed CO2 emissions much faster than our European allies that adopted the Kyoto Protocol to reduce emissions in 1997. Preferring markets over incessant regulation, non-signatory U.S. has been reducing emissions faster than any other nation on Earth. All the while, our economy has boomed nearly 60 percent to $18 trillion (real 2010 $).
Investor’s Business Daily explained that efficiency is the key to reducing emissions, and capitalism pushes toward and rewards maximum efficiency:
Because capitalism, unlike socialism and its welfare-state kin, hates waste. So it does all it can to be efficient. That means using as little energy as possible to make things. And this predates any of the current CO2 hysteria.
In the U.S., the data are clear and utterly convincing: In 1949, it took 1,098 metric tons of CO2 emissions to produce $1 million in the U.S., after adjusting for inflation. Today, it takes just 301 metric tons to produce that same million dollars, after inflation — a 73 percent gain in carbon efficiency.
The increased use of natural gas, which produces significantly less CO2 than oil or coal, has also contributed to the U.S. decline in emissions.

Contrast with the rest of the world

Since 2005, the U.S.’s energy-related CO2 emissions dropped 861 million metric tons, or 14 percent. In contrast, global emissions rose by 21 percent over the same time period.
In 2017, European emissions rose 2.5 percent, China’s rose 1.6 percent, and India’s rose 4.4 percent. The increase in Asia can be attributed to swift economic growth in China and India, powered by large amounts of coal energy output.

Future outlook

The U.S. Energy Information Administration projects that U.S. CO2 emissions will increase in 2018 before leveling out in 2019 overall.
The EIA expects coal emissions to increase by 0.6 percent in 2018 and 2019, oil emissions to increase by 1.6 percent in 2018 before declining 0.2 percent in 2019, and natural gas emissions to increase by 0.6 percent in 2018 and flatline in 2019.

Global Warming Fails

PHOTOS: GLOBAL WARMING “MELTING” UK INTO A “HOT DESERT”

Ice storms, I mean, sand storms pounding UK

Man-made “global warming” is “melting” the United Kingdom into an “intolerably hot desert,” which is exactly what Al Gore and other “climate change” proponents predicted would happen:
The UK and Ireland are currently getting pounded by Storm Emma, a cyclone that’s bringing in Siberian air.
Apparently the hot sands were too hot for this poor dog:
Here, a car not designed for Saraha-style conditions struggles in this “global warming” climate:
And here’s another car stuck in the sand:
The UK now has Tusken Raiders, aka sand people:
Apparently only pub crawlers could tolerate the heat:
But “global warming,” however, is bringing out the artistic talent in residents:
Al Gore famously predicted this would happen as a result of the Arctic ice caps melting by 75%:
