The nation of Israel has hordes of enemies waiting just beyond the borders of the Jewish democracy. However, the most dangerous country to Israel’s continued existence may be an ally.

Sources contend that President Barack Obama might stop blocking a United Nations resolution that would “call for the resumption of political talks to conclude a final peace settlement” in the wake of Benjamin Netanyahu’sre-election as prime minister.

Such a move would favor the Palestinian Authority in peace talks by automatically dictating a two-state solution regardless of Palestine’s behavior.

The administration understands that Congress is behind Netanyahu, so the president may seek to use the power of U.N. as a workaround to the Constitution and our treaty partnership with Israel.

In addition, Obama is apparently reconsidering his opposition to Palestine joining the International Criminal Court, which would allow the Palestinians to press war crimes charges against the Israelis.

Under current federal law, passed by Congress and approved by the president, the Palestinians would lose all aid from America — which totals over $400 million and is one of the things keeping the Palestinian Authority solvent— upon joining the ICC, according to Breitbart.

However, sources are suggesting the president is trying to find ways around the ban, because who cares about the law?

Some commentators characterize the power struggle in the Palestinian Authority as being between aterrorist organization in Hamas and a corrupt, Western-favored organization in Fatah. They’re wrong, though.

It’s a power struggle between a terrorist organization in Hamas and a corrupt terrorist organization in Fatah.

Keep in mind that Fatah played major roles in both Intifadas. The terrorist group Black September, responsible for the 1972 Munich Olympic massacre and various plane hijackings, was also an offshoot of Fatah.

These are the two parties President Obama wants to bypass Congress to appease over the objections of one of our closest allies in the Middle East. And all because the guy they didn’t want to win, did.

I shall leave that fact for your summary judgment and ask you whether this is a president who has thebest interests of the country or its allies in mind.

Pope Francis welcomed Israeli President Shimon Peres and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to the Vatican on Sunday in an attempt to broker peace between Israel and the Palestinians.

Hosting an evening of prayers for peace in Israel, Peres and Abbas joined the pope over a sunset invocation of Jewish, Christian and Muslim prayers. Francis told both leaders that he hoped the prayer summit would mark “a new journey” toward peace.

The Vatican also invited the spiritual leader of the Orthodox Christian church to present a united Christian front in supporting peace in Israel.

The pope urged Israel and the Palestinians to open up dialogue and usher in a new era of coexistence. He invoked the memory of children killed by war and conflict between the two sides to instill patience and strength to bring about peace.

“Peacemaking calls for courage, much more so than warfare,” Francis said. “It calls for the courage to say yes to encounter and no to conflict.”

Vatican officials insisted that the pope had no political agenda in hosting the two leaders. They said that Francis seeks to rekindle the fires of peace and that the meeting holds symbolic significance in restarting failed US-brokered peace talks.

The prayers, which were held in the Vatican gardens alongside St. Peter’s Basilica, incorporated Jewish, Christian and Muslim themes common to each religion. Prayers were delivered in Hebrew, English, Arabic and Italian.

The main themes, as set by the pope, were centered on asking God for peace in Israel, thanking God for creation, and seeking forgiveness to wrongdoings.

At the end of the prayer summit, Francis, Peres and Abbas shook hands and planted an olive tree together as a sign of peace.

The Vatican expects no immediate results from the prayer summit but hopes that the event will help close the divide between Israel and the Palestinians.

“Nobody is fooling themselves that peace will break out in the Holy Land,” stated Father Pierbattista Pizzaballa, head of the Franciscan Order in the Middle East who organized the event.

“But this time to stop and breathe has been absent some time. Not everything is decided by politics,” he added.

Peres, speaking in the Vatican gardens, quoted Psalm 122 in asking for peace in Israel. “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem,” he urged, saying those who love the ancient and holy city will prosper.

The Israeli president thanked Francis for bearing a “renewed inspiration to trust in heaven, to love the people, and to care for the earth.”

“It is in that spirit that I have come here from Jerusalem, the cradle of three monotheistic religions, and the vibrant heart of the Jewish people. In Hebrew, the word Jerusalem and the word for peace, share the same root – Shalom,” Peres explained.

“And it is with that prayer in our heart and that call to action that we stand together. From Jerusalem, I have come to call for Shalom – Peace. Peace between nations. Peace between faiths. Peace between people. Peace for our children,” he said.

Peres pointed to a command in the Bible which “commands us to walk the peace of peace. It demands of us to toil for its realization.” Quoting further from the Bible, Peres said, “Whoever loves life and desires to see good days, let him turn from evil and do good, seek peace and pursue it.”

“It is a command to pursue peace. All year long. Every day. We greet each other with this blessing. Shalom. Salam. We must be worthy of the deep and demanding meaning of this blessing…Even when peace seems distant, we must pursue it to bring it closer,” Peres said.

“And if we pursue peace with determination, with faith, we will reach it. And it will endure through all of us, as it is written by Isaiah: ‘They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore.’”

John Kerry Gives Up on Peace in Israel

The Obama administration has given up when it comes to peace in the Middle East. State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki confirmed in a briefing on Wednesday that the United States is no longer planning on presenting new initiatives for peace between Israel and the Palestinians.

According to Psaki, Secretary of State John Kerry has turned his attention to more pressing matters in the international arena.

“It remains in the hands of the parties to take – make the choice necessary if they want to resume discussions. Obviously, there’s a great deal going on in the world, and Secretary Kerry is focused on everything from Ukraine to South Sudan, all the issues we talk about in here every day,” Psaki said.

While the US is no longer planning on brokering peace agreements, Psaki stressed that it was “Still engaged with the parties” and that “at this stage we’re in, we’re clearly in a hiatus from the talks. Nothing has changed from that.”

The last round of peace talks took a downward spiral when Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas demanded more concessions from Israel without returning any guarantee of engaging in future peace talks with Israel.

Negotiations completely collapsed several weeks ago when Israel suspended all talks with the PA in response to a surprise announcement of a Hamas-Fatah unity agreement. The new agreement will make Hamas, a Gaza-based terrorist organization, part of a new, unified Palestinian government.

Israel stated that it would never negotiate with any Palestinian government in which Hamas, who vows armed and violent resistance against Israel, is a part of.

US envoy for the Israeli-Palestinian negotiations Martin Indyk is stepping down from his post and dissolving his negotiating team in light of the recent “failure” of peace talks, Maariv reported.

Kerry has appeared optimistic about kick-starting a new round of peace talks, meeting recently with Abbas in London in “informal” discussions to discuss terms. However, the secretary has admitted it is now time to take a “pause” from talks. Kerry told Israel and the PA that the road to peace now lies in their hands.

The Obama administration, realizing the failure of peace talks, has ordered Kerry and the State Department to refocus its efforts on other international matters. According to a report last week in The New York Times, President Barack Obama is stepping away from the peace process in order “to let the failure of the talks since in for both parties, and see if that causes them to reconsider.”

An anonymous official in the Obama administration told the newspaper that the president blames Israel for the failure of peace talks, citing new construction in Judea and Samaria as the main reason.

The report noted that Obama instructed Kerry and his team to turn their attention on the crisis in Ukraine, nuclear negotiations with Iran, and long-term American strategic shift to Asia.

Secretary of State John Kerry added to the already ample fanfare surrounding the launch of talks between Israeli and Palestinian negotiators by holding a press conference yesterday to introduce his new special envoy to the peace process, Martin Indyk.

Indyk, unlike his predecessor George Mitchell, has made a career out of the peace process – first as an active participant in the negotiations during the Clinton administration, where he was a National Security Council official and then as ambassador to Israel, and more recently at the Brookings Institution, where he has written, lectured, advised, and founded the Saban Forum, an annual Brookings conference on the peace process.

Kerry gave a simple reason for selecting Indyk: “He knows what has worked and he knows what hasn’t worked, and he knows how important it is to get this right.” Indyk indeed has cultivated the perception that he has not emerged from decades in the Middle East business empty-handed – itself a shrewd way of transforming his involvement in repeated failure into a story of hard-earned wisdom. In Indyk’s (and Kerry’s) telling, twenty years of trafficking in bad ideas and marching down dead-ends have forged a wise elder statesman, a hard-bitten veteran who won’t make rookie mistakes. Indyk’s memoir of his involvement in the peace process, published in 2009, is self-deprecatingly titled Innocent Abroad.

Unfortunately, this humble and attractive story simply isn’t true. Indyk’s record during the Obama era isn’t one of speaking tough truths earned from years of experience in the field. It is a typical Washington story, that of a careerist trying to advance his prospects with the incumbent administration, navigating toward the hoped-for moment when he will be invited back into a position of power and acclaim. For Indyk, this job has been particularly challenging: In 2008, he supported Hillary Clinton, while his colleague Dennis Ross backed Obama. Ross got an administration job; Indyk stayed at Brookings.

Thus Indyk became a cheerleader for nearly every first-term mistake Obama made in the peace process, right until the moment it became safe to criticize those mistakes. Kerry was famously for the Iraq war before he was against it; Indyk was for the administration’s policies before he was against them, which was before he took a job in the administration so that he could be for them again.

Consider some examples of Indyk’s having it opposite ways:

At yesterday’s press conference, he quoted from Obama’s recent speech in Jerusalem that “peace is necessary, peace is just, and peace is possible” – and added, “I couldn’t agree more with President Obama. It’s been my conviction for 40 years that peace is possible.” Yet in an interview just last year on Israeli radio, Indyk was asked whether peace was possible. “I'm not particularly optimistic because I think that the heart of the matter is that the maximum concessions that this government of Israel would be prepared to make fall far short of the minimum requirements that Abu Mazen [Mahmoud Abbas] will insist on,” he replied. “So it may be possible to keep the talks going, which is a good thing but I find it very hard to believe that they will reach an agreement.”

The single most astonishing example of Indyk’s opportunism is the settlement freeze that Obama demanded of Israel as a precondition for talks, today widely acknowledged – including by Obama and Indyk – as having been counterproductive. In 2009, Indyk endorsed Obama’s demand for the freeze as the only way to get the Palestinians into talks:

There's one Israeli action that may help move things forward, and Obama was not shy in bringing it up at the press conference: Israel's Road Map obligation to stop settlements. A real settlements freeze, and the dismantlement of unauthorised settlement outposts (another Road Map obligation), would give Palestinians renewed hope in negotiations…if Netanyahu were willing to fulfil that commitment, Obama might be able to persuade the Saudis and other Gulf Arabs to reciprocate by normalising relations with Israel.

Time is of the essence in taking action against Russia for its military push into Ukraine, because Russian President Vladimir Putin is attempting to create a new version of the Soviet Union, says Richard Perle, a fellow at the American Enterprise Institute.

"The time to impress Mr. Putin is long past," Perle told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"It should have begun years ago, but we didn't, and both the Bush administration, and more importantly the Obama administration, had been much too indulgent with respect to the Russians and their policies," he said Wednesday.

Perle, former chairman of the Defense Policy Board under President George W. Bush, said Putin regarded the collapse of the Soviet Union as "a great tragedy."

"He's been trying to put Humpty Dumpty back together again and re-create something that looks like the old Soviet empire. What will impress him most is if NATO and the European Union . . . pull themselves together and impose some significant sanctions," Perle said.



"The Russian economy is a very weak economy. It's based almost entirely on oil exports. The financial sanctions that are feasible would have an immediate and serious impact on a feeble Russian economy, and that's what we ought to do."

Unfortunately, not all of the allies of the United States are prepared to do that, Perle says.

"In particular, the Germans are reluctant to take any significant action," he said.

"Ironically, the Germans helped land us in this situation when they refused to consider inviting Ukraine into NATO. If Ukraine were a NATO member, we wouldn't be in this situation we are in today."

Perle said the U.S. must be prepared to work with sanctions that do not involve military intervention, which "one always worries can spin out of control."

"Financial sanctions on Russia are the obvious thing to do," he said.

"So, I would hope that our less reluctant allies would put some pressure on our more reluctant allies and persuade the Germans in particular that it's time for them to play a role, commence with their power and authority."


On news reports of a unification between the Palestine Liberation Organization and the terrorist group Hamas, Perle said both have a great deal more in common than either will acknowledge.

"They play us very well in this regard. You have the good guy and the bad guy. The idea that they are fundamentally opposed on the issues that matter to us is only conjecture and probably wrong or largely wrong," Perle said.

"The heart of this issue, and it's important to keep coming back to it, is, are the Palestinians as they are now, led by Hamas, by the PLO, by some combination, ready to accept the existence of the Jewish state?

"The answer -- unfortunately, I believe -- is no, they are not. You can't get a peace agreement under those circumstances."

Perle said Secretary of State John Kerry is desperate to hammer out a deal in the Middle East "because like all of his predecessors, that is the golden ring of diplomacy."

"It's easily tempting to secretaries of state and presidents to try to accomplish this Nobel Prize-winning achievement, and it leads some of them to plunge into a diplomatic morass when the most likely outcome is that it will make matters worse and not better."
