Iran's Best Negotiator--The US

Iranian Defector: US Working 'On Behalf' of Iran

Sunday, 29 Mar 2015 04:01 PM
By Greg Richter
An Iranian journalist and top media aide to Iran's President Hassan Rouhani defected while covering the nuclear talks in Switzerland and has accused the United States' team of acting on Iran's behalf in the negotiations.

Amir Hossein Motaghi defected late last week, saying he no longer saw any point in his profession in a country whose government told him what to write, the U.K.'s Telegraphreported.
Motaghi told the London-based Irane Farda, an Iranian opposition television station, that the American team is working to convince the other members of the U.N. Security Council nations and Germany – the P5+1 powers.

"The U.S. negotiating team are mainly there to speak on Iran’s behalf with other members of the P5+1 countries and convince them of a deal," he said.

He told the station that a number of people attending the talks on Iran's side are reported to be journalists, but that "their main job is to make sure that all the news fed back to Iran goes through their channels."
"My conscience would not allow me to carry out my profession in this manner anymore," he said.

Motaghi had held a major press position for Rouhani. During his campaign, Motaghi headed up Rouhani’s successful social media efforts to bring his message to young voters through Twitter.

The Iran Student Correspondents Association (ISCA) confirmed that Motaghi had been in Lausanne to cover the talks, but had quit. Motaghi's critics clamed he had gone to Lausanne only for the purpose of defecting.

He is said to be a friend of jailed Iranian-American journalist Jason Rezaian and had been lobbying internally for his release. The Telegraph said one news website reported that he had been tipped off that he would have been arrested if he had returned to Iran.

Germanwings Time Line,

Andreas Lubitz: Germanwings flight’s last minutes

revealed in chilling black box transcript

crashpilot
Over the last 5 days, there has been a lot of information put out about the crash of the Germanwings airplane in the French Alps. Some of it is even true. Much of it however has been conjecture dressed as fact. One of the most troubling to me is that the co-pilot was a recent Muslim convert and this was an act of Jihad. Let me tell you now, there is no evidence to that statement at this time.
What appears to be fact, is that Andreas Lubitz, was a man that was highly depressed and taking medication that would have excluded him flying that day. His depression is over several things. A recent breakup with his girlfriend, the possibility that she was pregnant with their child, and he was just diagnosed as having a disease that was about to end his Carrere as a pilot, something that he literally loved doing.
The following is a factual partial transcript of the voice recorder recovered from the crash scene with timeline notations. You will note there is not Allah Akbar, or rantings and ravings of a disturbed mind from Mr. Lubitz. All you hear is the calm determination of a sick individual that has come to terms with the events in his life and chosen to end them while doing the thing he loves most. As to why he chose to do this with 149 other persons on board is a question for smarter people than myself. I only want to give you the facts and let you draw your own conclusions.
The recording is said to begin normally, with the captain apologizing to passengers for an almost 30 minute delay in Barcelona.
He then tells them he expects the flight to make up the lost time mid-flight to Dusseldorf.
The recordings then show the tragic captain chatting with Lubitz for the next 20 minutes.
Then, at about 10.23, the co-pilot tells Mr Sondheimer he can go to the toilet at any time – noting that he had not relieved himself at the airport in Barcelona.
A short while later, 10.27am, the plane has reached its cruising altitude of 38,000ft and the captain tells Lubitz to prepare for the landing.
According to investigators, the co-pilot’s responses are said to be “laconic”, with the 27-year-old using phrase such as “hopefully” and “we’ll see”.
In one chilling exchange, Lubitz tells the pilot “You can go now” and just two minutes later, the captain is heard saying “You can take over”, before a seat is pushed back and a door opens and closes.
It is at this point that the plane begins to descend and at 10.32am air traffic controllers attempt to contact the flight without any luck.
Shortly after a ‘Sink Rate’ alarm signals followed by loud banging on the cockpit door and Sodheimer yelling: “For god’s sake, open the door.”
According to the report, passengers can now be heard screaming in the background, before, at 10.35am, “loud metallic banging against the cockpit door” is heard once more.
Just over a minute later, another alarm begins with an automated message going: “Ground. Pull up. Pull up.”
At this point the pilot can be heard screaming: “Open the goddam door.”
As the plane speeds towards the Alps, Lubitz can be heard breathing normally in the cockpit. At no time after the pilot leaves the cockpit does the copilot say anything until just before the very last moment is picked up by the black box – the plane hitting the ground at 10.40am, with the chilling screams of passengers in the background.

Timeline: Germanwings plane crash investigation
DAY 1: TUESDAY MARCH 24 9.01am GMT (10.01am local time)

Boston Cop Remains in Coma After Fatal Traffic Stop Shooting; Protesters Caught on Video Taunting Police

A Boston police officer and former Army Ranger — honored for his role in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombing — remained in an induced coma fighting for his life Saturday after being shot in the face during a traffic stop, authorities said.
The suspect in the shooting hopped out of the stopped car on Friday evening and opened fire on officers, striking Officer John Moynihan just below his right eye and an apparent bystander in her arm, police Commissioner William Evans said.

Evans noted the suspect’s gunfire occurred “without provocation,” WBZ-TV reported.
Other officers returned fire and killed the suspect at the scene, Evans said. The woman suffered a flesh wound and was in good spirits, and three other officers were taken to a hospital with stress-related problems, he said.
Police tape roped off a car involved in the shooting at the corner of Ruthven Street and Humbolt Avenue in Roxbury on Friday, March 27, 2015, in which a Boston police officer was shot in the face and two other people were also shot, one fatally. Evans said the suspect, 41-year-old Angelo West, had a violent criminal history with several gun convictions, WBZ said. West was arrested in 2001 after he allegedly fired at police officers trying to arrest him after witnessing West complete a drug deal, the Boston Globe reported.

Evans said the police officers, part of a gang unit, pulled the vehicle over for a routine stop. Two other people in the car were being interviewed, and it was too early to say whether criminal charges would be filed against them, he said.
Moynihan, 34, is on the police Youth Violence Task Force and is a highly decorated military veteran, Evans said.
He is a former Army Ranger who served in Iraq and was honored at the White House in May as a recipient of the National Association of Police Organizations TOP COPS award. Moynihan received the award for being one of the first responders in Watertown following the April 2013 gunbattle with the Boston Marathon bombers.
Moynihan had helped transit police Officer Richard Donohue, who was shot in the leg and nearly bled to death when police tried to apprehend Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, Lieutenant Michael McCarthy said.
“The officer here is in tough shape, but we’re all pulling for him, and hopefully he’ll pull through,” Evans said. “His family’s with him, the clergy has been here and … let’s pray for him.”
The Rev. Mark Scott of the Black Ministerial Alliance of Greater Boston said Moynihan was shot “assassination-style” and called for calm in the predominantly black Roxbury section, CNN reported.
“This is not about ‘Black Lives Matter,’” he said, CNN noted, referring to protests after the shootings. “It’s about all-the-lives-in-the-community matter and it’s about the police … responding to a concern from the community.”
Here’s a clip of protesters confronting and taunting police following the shooting; one protester could be heard instructing others, “Everyone put their hands up!” (Content warning: Profanity):

When Iranians Comment On Obama And Kerry's Support For Making "Any Deal" You Have To Realize That Obama Is NOT A Friend Of Israel Or The Free World.

He’s Afraid He’ll Be Arrested If He Goes Home, but That Didn’t Stop This Iranian Reporter From Making a Bombshell Claim About Obama Administration’s Negotiation Strategy

A former Iranian journalist who once had close ties to President Hassan Rouhani said top Obama administration officials are toeing such a conciliatory line at the negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program that they appear to be speaking “on Iran’s behalf.”
“The U.S. negotiating team are mainly there to speak on Iran’s behalf with other members of the 5+1 countries and convince them of a deal,” said Amir Hossein Motaghi who according to Britain’s Telegraphrequested political asylum in Switzerland after traveling there to cover the nuclear talks. The P5+1 refers collectively to the U.S., Britain, China, France, Germany and Russia.
Others have also accused the administration of over-eagerness to secure a deal making steep compromises on the Islamic Republic’s controversial nuclear program while not addressing its long-range missiles and international terrorism sponsorship.
The left-wing Israeli daily Haaretz ran this cartoon Saturday showing an eager John Kerry offering Iranian leaders a document to sign.
An Israeli official called the emerging agreement “incomprehensibly” bad and rejected the Obama administration’s claim that the deal would stop Iran from stocking enough fissile material to build a bomb in less than one year.
The unnamed official told the Times of Israel that the Jewish state opposed removing sanctions without first demanding Iran halt training and funding terrorist groups.
“The Iranians are not being required to reveal their secret military projects, their missile stocks are not being discussed, and nor is the terrorism they initiate,” the official told the Times of Israel. “Has anyone wondered why the Iranians need centrifuges at all?”
NBC’s Richard Engel said Friday on MSNBC that Saudi Arabia no longer trusts the U.S.
“[They] think this administration is working to befriend Iran to try and make a deal in Switzerland and therefore didn’t feel the intelligence frankly would be secure,” Engel said, referring to Saudi-led military strikes against Iranian-backed militants in Yemen.
The State Department announced Sunday that Secretary of State John Kerry had canceled his plans to travel back to the U.S. over the weekend in order to remain in Lausanne, Switzerland, for the talks leading up to Tuesday’s deadline for a framework agreement.
The Telegraph reported that Motaghi, the Iranian journalist who requested asylum, managed public relations for Rouhani’s election campaign in 2013 and more recently worked at the Iran Student Correspondents Association.
Speaking to a London-based Iranian opposition television channel, Motaghi criticized the pro-regime bias of his fellow Iranian reporters covering the talks.
“There are a number of people attending on the Iranian side at the negotiations who are said to be journalists reporting on the negotiations,” Motaghi told Irane Farda television, the Telegraph reported. “But they are not journalists and their main job is to make sure that all the news fed back to Iran goes through their channels.”
“My conscience would not allow me to carry out my profession in this manner any more,” he added.
The Telegraph quoted an Iranian website that reported Motaghi had been tipped off he might be arrested upon returning to Iran.
Meanwhile, the Iran Student Correspondents Association, denied Motaghi was covering the talks for them.
“Amir Hossein Motaghi had terminated his contribution to ISCA and this news agency has not had any reporter at the nuclear talks, except for a photojournalist,” the association said in a statement.
The Associated Press reported Thursday that the U.S. was considering allowing Iran to run hundreds of centrifuges at its once-secret Fordo nuclear facility, a fortified underground bunker, a compromise that elicited alarm from Israel and other neighboring Middle Eastern nations.

Gun Ownership Dropping. Is This Good News For Gun Haters?

From: Right To Bear Blog:

Gun Ownership in U.S. at Lowest Levels Ever, The Reason Why Will Surprise You

It’s likelyScreen Shot 2015-03-11 at 12.01.29 PM the founding fathers never saw this coming.
When America was just a loose collection of people in various colonies they could have never imagined what America would become.
Now more Americans live in cities than ever before.
And what that’s done is it’s changed how people get food.
It used to be people had a small farm and hunted to provide for themselves.
Now that’s not the case.
And because Americans rely on factory farming for food it means they’ve given up their guns.
Guns.com writes on the decline of gun onwerhsip:
A major American trend survey released this month shows that the number of American gun owners is the lower than it’s ever been.
The 2014 General Social Survey finds that 32 percent of Americans either own a gun or live with someone who does. It’s a significant decline compared to the 1970s and 80s, when about half of Americans told researchers there was a gun in their household.
According to the study, the drop is attributed to a decline of hunters since the number of American adults who hunt has been cut in half, with roughly 15.5 percent in 2014.
Screen Shot 2015-03-11 at 11.50.19 AM
Firearm ownership is still higher among whites than blacks. Thirty-nine percent of white respondents said they own or live in a home with a gun compared to 18.1 percent of black respondents.
Similarly, a greater percentage of non-Hispanics, with 36 percent, said they own a gun than Hispanics, with 15.2 percent.
Female gun ownership has had little change since 1980 and there is no meaningful trend in the level of personal ownership, according to the study. In 2014, 35 percent of men said they owned a gun, and 11.7 percent for women.
The study also shows support for a law requiring a police permit before buying a gun has had little change. Roughly 72 percent favor the idea, 27 percent oppose, and 1 percent don’t know. Compared to 1972 when 70 percent favored the idea, 27 percent opposed, and 3 percent didn’t know.
The survey was administered by the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago, which primarily used in-person interviewing for results. The group surveyed 2,538 American adults between March 31 and Oct. 11, 2014.
The good news is even though gun ownership is at all time low, the support for owning guns is at one of the highest levels in recent years.
Despite the onset of mass shootings, Americans still support the right to own a gun, even if they don’t own one personally. A lot of this can be attributed to healthy online debate where gun advocacy groups are able to show crime data that unequivocally shows how gun ownership brings about a reduction in crime rates.
And while not every American is hunting anymore, that doesn’t mean they should give up their guns (or not want them).
Because one thing the founders did understand when they wrote the second amendment is guns aren’t just for hunting.
