Why Not Fix The Bill Rather Than Nibble Around The Edges?

Nevada Senator Comes Out Against Senate Obamacare Overhaul

'He is opposed to the...'

Illustrating the challenge of finding an Obamacare overhaul that will appeal to enough Republicans to secure Senate passage, Sen. Dean Heller, R-Nev., announced Friday that he will oppose the bill Senate Republicans unveiled Thursday.
Heller becomes the fifth Republican to oppose the plan. Sens. Rand Paul of Kentucky, Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, Mike Lee of Utah and Ted Cruz of Texas already announced their disdain for the proposal.
“There are provisions in this draft that represent an improvement to our current health care system, but it does not appear this draft as written will accomplish the most important promise that we made to Americans: to repeal Obamacare and lower their health care costs,” the four conservative senators said Thursday in a joint statement.

Heller objected to the bill on different grounds.
“You have to protect Medicaid expansion states. That’s what I want,” he said.
“This bill would mean a loss of coverage for millions of Americans,” said Heller, who predicted the Senate GOP bill would not lower premiums.
Heller also criticized a new cap on overall Medicaid spending and waivers that would allow states to repeal some Obamacare provisions. Those facets of the bill, though, are essential to attract conservative support.
Heller said he could support the bill if changes were made.
“Both Republicans and Democrats can agree the (Affordable Care Act) does need some fixes,” he said.
However, he also said he understood that changes moderates want will be abhorred by conservatives.

“I can see the other side’s going to have problems” if Medicaid expansion is preserved, he said, citing “the Ted Cruz’s and Mike Lee’s and some of them.”
The difference between conservatives and moderates were noted by Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah., in assessing whether the bill could move through the Senate as fast as its supporters want.
“It’ll be hard to pass the bill — lot of differing points of view — and one week may not be enough time,” Hatch told CNN. “It’s a real problem,” he added.
Heller has been a critic of Obamacare. In 2011, he issued a statement denouncing the Affordable Care Act.
“As Obamacare is implemented it is becoming increasingly clear how flawed this law really is. Not only did it cut a half trillion dollars from Medicare impacting thousands of Nevada’s seniors, now the law would have driven health insurers out of our state if a reprieve had not been granted. It is clear that the unique health care needs of individual states were not taken into consideration, and this is why Obamacare will not work for Nevada. This DC bureaucrat-driven health care system will only result in limited health care choices and higher costs for Nevadans,” he said at the time.

OOPS: Clinton Foundation Admits It Took $1 Million From Qatar And Forgot To Tell The Government

Among the thousands of emails hacked from Hillary Clinton’s presidential
campaign chairman John Podesta and published by Wikileaks, one stated
that officials from the government of Qatar gave the Clinton Foundation
$1 million to celebrate Bill Clinton’s 65th birthday, funds which the foundation
did not report to the State Department.
That would seemingly violate an ethics agreement Hillary Clinton signed when
she became Secretary of State in 2009, in which she promised the foundation
would notify the State Department's ethics official if a new foreign government
wanted to donate or "increase materially" its contributions.
Qatari officials pledged the money in 2011; in April 2012 Amitabh Desai, the
Clinton Foundation's foreign policy director, sent an email acknowledging the
Qataris wanted to meet Bill Clinton “for five minutes” in New York City.
Clinton Foundation spokesman Brian Cookstra told Reuters that the $1 million
gift was not a "material increase" in Qatar’s contributions. But Qatar had given
between $1 million and $5 million to the Clinton Foundation in total, meaning
the $1 million gift represented between a 20% to 100% increase.

The State Department told Reuters it had no record of the Qatar donation.
In 2016, the Foundation admitted that the Clinton Health Access Initiative
had not published a list of its donors since 2010, although Hillary Clinton had
promised she would offer an annual list.
As Reuters noted, Clinton Foundation officials acknowledged they sometimes
evaded the agreement with the Obama administration, but blamed oversights.
At least eight other countries in addition to Qatar gave new or increased funding
to the foundation, most often for the Clinton Health Access Initiative.

ORWELLIAN: Canadians Can Now Be Fined Or JAILED For Using Wrong Gender Pronouns

Taking a page out of George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four, Canada passed
a new law that opens Canadians up to fines and even jail time if they use
gender pronouns that do not correspond to a person's subjectively determined
 "gender identity."
As noted by The Daily Caller, Bill C-16, which was passed by Canada's Senate
on Thursday, puts so-called "'gender identity' and 'gender expression' into both
the country’s Human Rights Code, as well as the hate crime category of its
Criminal Code by a vote of 67-11." All the bill needs now is a stamp of approval
 from the governor general.
Critics of the legislation say the bill will target conservatives who cling to reality
and science and refuse to adhere to progressives' gender theory, which is rooted
in mere feelings, for potential hate crimes; potential consequences for refusing
capitulation are monetary fines, "anti-bias training" and jail time.
Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was predictably overcome with joy
over the progressive crackdown on free speech.

“Great news,” he wrote via Twitter. “Bill C-16 has passed the Senate — making
it illegal to discriminate based on gender identity or expression. #LoveisLove.”

Great news: Bill C-16 has passed the Senate – making it illegal to discriminate based on gender identity or expression.
Aside from the law's odious opposition to free speech, the bill is severely flawed
due to the subjective nature of gender identity alone, as highlighted by
conservative Senator Grant Mitchell in November 2016. "Transgender identity
is too subjective a concept to be enshrined in law because it is defined as an
individual’s deeply felt internal experience of gender," he stated.
Fierce free speech proponent Jordan Peterson, an outspoken professor at the
University of Toronto, fought tirelessly against the bill, "insisting that it infringed
upon citizens’ freedom of speech and institutes what he views as dubious
 gender ideology into law."
“Compelled speech has come to Canada,” wrote Peterson on Twitter. “We will
seriously regret this.”

Senate passes Bill C16 without amendment 67 for 11 against. Compelled speech has come to Canada. We will seriously regret this.
Speaking before the Senate in May, Peterson ripped the legislation and explained
how it was sadly indicative of "how deeply the culture of victimization" has seeped
 into Canadian culture.
“[Ideologues are] using unsuspecting and sometimes complicit members of
the so-called transgender community to push their ideological vanguard
forward,” he said. “The very idea that calling someone a term that they didn’t
choose causes them such irreparable harm that legal remedies should be
sought [is] an indication of just how deeply the culture of victimization has
 sunk into our society.”
An outlier in academia, Peterson became a target for the SJW Left when he
previously vowed to refrain from using fictional gender pronouns like "zir"
 and "ze."
Campaign Life Toronto's senior political strategist Jack Fonseca told Life Site
News that the bill was an attack on religious people who reject the Left's
 LGBTQ agenda.
"Mark my words, this law will not be used as some sort of ‘shield’ to defend
vulnerable transsexuals, but rather as a weapon with which to bludgeon
people of faith and free-thinking Canadians who refuse to deny truth,” he said.

Scalise Continues To Improve

Developing: Rep. Scalise Upgraded to “Fair” Condition

 Print

For the past week, millions of Americans around the United States have been wondering whether GOP Majority Whip Steve Scalise will pull through after being badly wounded in the Alexandria, Virginia, shooting last week.
After initially being close to death and in critical condition, Scalise’s condition was upgraded to “serious” over the weekend. On Wednesday, doctors announced Scalise’s condition was upgraded to “fair,” The Daily Caller reported.
This is a stunning development, especially considering that just over a week ago Scalise was on the brink of death because of his injuries, and doctors were having to perform multiple surgeries.

“Congressman Steve Scalise continues to make good progress,” said a statement released by MedStar Washington Hospital Center, where Scalise is being treated. “He is now listed in fair condition and is beginning an extended period of healing and rehabilitation.”
While this is good news, it doesn’t mean Scalise will be back up on his feet in a few days. He will probably need more surgeries given the extent of the internal damage, and will likely need some intense physical therapy.
Scalise got incredibly lucky. He lost a lot of blood from the gunshot wound, and had several internal organs severely damaged from the bullet. He could have died were it not for the skilled medical team at the hospital.
Scalise has had visitors almost every day, and support has poured in for him from all across the country. [MORE DETAILS ABOUT SCALISE AND VIDEO ON NEXT PAGE]
