Another Right Disappears

So much for openness, the government will not let a gun shop know why their license was revoked. Sounds like we are living in Russia rather than the US.  This really stinks.  If he did something wrong, OK  at least let him and the world know.  However, when you the Feds will not give the reason, sounds like they are trying to trump up a charge.

It was not the gun shop's fault that the purchaser of a weapon did not secure it and her idiot crazed son used it to kill innocent people. However, we have to assume that the government will make him an example, whether they have the facts or not.

No longer can we presume to have the right to face our accusers or know the crime for which we are accused.  Again, this is a symptom of the decline of the US. Sad but true.
Step by step the disintegration continues and  the gun debate is the latest step.

We all know where it ends and how it ends, the only question is when.

GUN SHOP THAT SOLD FIREARM TO NEWTOWN SHOOTER’S MOM HAS GUN LICENSE REVOKED — FEDS DON’T SAY WHY

Gun Shop That Sold Firearm to Newtown Shooters Mom Has Gun License Revoked Feds Dont Say Why
EAST WINDSOR, CT – DECEMBER 21: The Riverview Gun Sales shop sits closed on December 21, 2012 in East Windsor, Connecticut. According to the Hartford Courant, sources investigating the massacre at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown have said the Bushmaster rifle used by the gunman Adam Lanza was legally purchased at the shop by his mother Nancy Lanza. The Courant also reports that records show the guns used in a previous mass shooting in Connecticut in 2010, where Omar Thornton killed eight people and himself at Hartford Distributers Inc, were also purchased at Riverview Gun Sales. On Thursday agents from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and local police raided and closed the gun shop. Credit: Getty Images
NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A shop that sold a gun to the Newtown school shooter’s mother has lost its federal firearms license.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives revoked the license of Riverview Gun Sales in East Windsor in December. The agency didn’t say why.
Authorities raided the store for undisclosed reasons shortly after the December school shootings in which Adam Lanza killed 20 first-graders and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School. He also shot to death his mother, Nancy, at their home. Authorities say he fired 154 shots with a Bushmaster .223-caliber rifle inside the school, then killed himself with a Glock handgun.
Nancy Lanza purchased a Bushmaster from Riverview, according to a person close to the investigation into the school shooting who spoke on condition of anonymity because the probe is continuing. It could not be confirmed whether the Bushmaster was the one used in the shooting.
Shop owner David LaGuercia said in December that Nancy Lanza bought a gun from him years ago, but he couldn’t remember what kind. LaGuercia said at the time he was cooperating with law enforcement.
“There is nothing more devastating than the loss of a child,” LaGuercia said in a statement in December. “We are absolutely appalled that the product that we sold several years ago would be used in this type of horrendous crime. Our hearts go out to the victims and the families.”
His wife, Shelley Clemens, said Friday that she and her husband still don’t know why the ATF revoked his firearms license. She said the store remains open selling ammunition and other items while LaGuercia appeals the revocation.
“They just came in the store after Sandy Hook, raided the store and took away the license,” she said, referring further questions to her husband. LaGuercia, of Agawam, Mass., didn’t return phone messages Friday.

Clemens said in December that store records show one gun was sold to Lanza.
The weapons used in the shooting had all apparently been purchased by Nancy Lanza, prosecutor Stephen J. Sedensky III said last week when search warrants were unsealed showing the Lanzas’ home was packed with weapons and ammunition.
According to its website, Riverview Gun Sales, about 15 miles north of Hartford and about 65 miles northeast of Newtown, sells a variety of rifles and pistols, including Bushmaster and Glock.
The shop also sells high-capacity ammunition magazines like the ones authorities say were used by Adam Lanza. In a law passed this week, Connecticut banned the sale or purchase of magazines holding more than 10 rounds.

More Gun Proposals

Massachusetts State Rep. David P. Linsky and Barack Obama
Massachusetts State Representative David Linsky has filed a new bill that would force gun owners to undergo mental health background checks, pay an additional 25% tax on all forms of ammunition, and require firearms categorized as “assault weapons” to be stored outside of their homes at government approved sites.
Natick Patch reported, via Black Listed News:
“This bill is a comprehensive effort to reduce all types of gun violence – murders, intentional shootings, accidental shootings and suicides.  There is not one solution to reducing gun violence – we can’t eliminate it – but there are a lot of common-sense steps that we can take to significantly reduce the everyday tragedy of gun violence and deaths,” said Linsky…
…“I have spoken with hundreds of people over the past few weeks in developing this legislation – victims, police officers, criminologists, physicians, and yes – gun owners and sportsmen,” stated Linsky. “There are a lot of good ideas out there. We should all have one goal – reducing gun violence and trying to keep more tragedies from happening.”
Provisions in the bill include:
  • Having one standard of the issuance of all gun licenses, giving local police chiefs the ability to evaluate all aspects of an application for a gun license.
  • Requires proof of liability insurance for possession of a firearm, rifle or shotgun.
  • Requires that all large capacity weapons and grandfathered assault weapons must be stored at gun clubs or target ranges.
  • Requires live shooting as part of the curriculum for a basic firearms safety course; this is not a current requirement.
  • Requires all applicants for gun licenses and FID cards to sign a waiver of mental health records for review to be destroyed after decision.
  • Imposes 25% sales tax on ammunition, firearms, shotguns, and rifles; dedicates funds towards firearms licensing, police training, mental health services, and victim’s services.
  •  Brings Massachusetts into compliance with the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS).
  • Limits gun buyers to one firearm purchase per month.
That way if someone breaks in your house, all you have to do is run down to the local gun storage facility to get your guns.
It makes perfect sense.

What Are Obama's Gun Control Proposals? An Easy Guide

Updated: January 16, 2013 | 1:38 p.m.
January 16, 2013 | 12:18 p.m.

The sweeping gun-control package that President Obama unveiled Wednesday includes proposals to ban assault weapons, limit high-capacity magazines, and improve mental-health care. Many of the proposals will need congressional approval, but also included are several executive actions Obama plans to take. The proposals were developed by a task force led by Vice President Joe Biden in the aftermath of the mass shooting last month at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.
Here is a look at what Obama is proposing:
Assault Weapons Ban: Obama is seeking a reinstatement of an earlier federal ban, which expired in 2004. The original measure was signed by President Clinton in 1994, but Congress declined to renew it. (After the last attempt expired, gun violence went down)
Limiting High-Capacity Ammunition Magazines: Advocates of a limit on high-capacity magazines believe it could slow down a shooter planning to carry out a massacre, such as the one at Sandy Hook. Obama’s proposal would limit these magazines to 10 bullets. Rep. Ron Barber, who was wounded in the Tucson, Ariz., shootings, is one of the advocates for this proposal. (Sandy Hook killer had 600 more bullets left after he killed himself. Limiting the number of bullets in a magazine might slow someone down due to changing magazines, but if he/she is prepared, they can have multiple clips.  This is a head fake and when it does not stop the next killer, they will outlaw all ammo magazines.)
Getting Rid of Armor-Piercing Bullets: Although it is illegal to manufacture and import armor-piercing bullets in the U.S., the president is sending legislation to Congress that will ban the possession and transfer of the ammunition. (Do you really think that the bad guys--most law abiding people do not have this type of ammo--will get rid of their bullets. This is typical lefty thinking.)
Gun-Trafficking Law: A favorite of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a gun-control group with major backing from New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, this measure would help prevent the trafficking of guns between states. This measure would make it easier for law enforcement officers to go after “strawmen” who buys guns for other people and transfer them across state lines. (Seems that Fast and Furious was about this entire idea--however, it was the government who told the gun dealers to sell the arms. Stupid idea!)
Universal Background Checks: Anyone who buys a gun at a store, a gun show, or through other private sellers would have to go through a criminal background check before purchasing the weapon, under this legislative proposal. Senior White House officials said there would be exceptions for transfers between family members, however. The president will also direct the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives to explain to licensed dealers how to best run background checks on potential buyers. (Background checks are already in place for store purchases. This would address the dreaded "gun show" sale and private deals. One would wonder how an individual who is selling his gun to his neighbor could do a background check--this is another example of lefty stupidity.  Having BATF instruct licensed dealers on background checks--is the most stupid. It is already done!
Tougher Background-Check System: Through executive action, the administration will give states $20 million in new incentives to share their information with a broader background-check system. The president will address legal barriers to reporting information that the White House has deemed unnecessary. The president will also ask federal agencies to update their records and make them available to the national background-check database. ("Remove them pesky legal barriers--we don't need them dumb laws, we know better" is what this says. What federal agencies are going to update what records--could this be the IRS?)
Review of Prohibitions on Gun Ownership: The president will ask the attorney general to look into current laws that outline which people are prohibited from buying guns, and make appropriate recommendations to improve the system. Currently, felons and some persons with disabilities are not allowed to purchase weapons. (This is where they are going to get all people who have taken a psychotropic drug or seen a psychologist or psychologist regardless of the reason or when the drug/doctor interaction took place.)
Nominate a New Head of the ATF: Obama will nominate Todd Jones as permanent head of the alcohol and firearms bureau. The agency has been without a congressionally confirmed director in six years. Jones is a U.S. attorney in Minnesota and has been serving as acting head of the ATF. (Check out the reason that Todd Jones has not been confirmed.)
Gun-Violence Research: The president is seeking a resumption of research into gun violence by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention through executive action. Congress halted the research because of lawmaker concerns that the agency was advocating for gun control. White House lawyers found that researching the cause of gun violence would not qualify as advocacy. The agency would be tasked with looking into the causes of gun violence, including a correlation between video games and violent behavior. (Why are they only researching gun violence? Why are they not investigating reports of people who use guns to prevent violence? Reason: it doesn't meet their agenda!)
School Safety: The administration, through executive order, will allow local communities to use money under the “COPS” initiative — which is aimed at putting more police officers on the street — to hire “school resource officers” who could help improve safety in schools. The White House would also make more money available to cities and towns to allow them to hire more mental-health workers for schools. The administration will also work with schools to develop emergency plans that could help them become better equipped to respond to incidents such as a shooting. (So now we are moving dollars from cops to psyhchologists in schools. Would that have prevented Sandy Hook or Aurora? Nope.  As far as emergency plans--Sandy Hook was prepared. He shot out the lock and entered. No one there had any way of defeating his guns.  This is just a movement of money to the schools from cops, it will do nothing.)
Combating Bullying: Through the Health and Human Services Department, the administration will provide new resources aimed at reducing bullying. (Who was bullied in Aurora or Sandy Hook. We don't know of any evidence to those facts. Dumb, junk science.)
Obamacare Regulations: The administration will develop regulations for the Affordable Care Act aimed at ensuring comprehensive care for mental-health problems. This would include putting money toward new social workers and psychologists. (Obamacare prevents doctors from asking questions about guns in the home, now that looks like it will be gone. More money going to social workers and psychologists--who controls and what will be the effect?  No doubt that we need to stop the crazies in our society like Aurora or Sandy Hook but how do you evaluate mental health in light of client privacy or do we say that anytime someone says that he is "mad as hell and not going to take it anymore" that that person has to be reported to authorities? Do we take away guns from everyone that is ever fired?  These are all feel good solutions to a very dicey issue.)

Proof Positive--Gun Control Does Not Stop Violence

For all of those gun haters out there, the proof is in the pudding and we have it. One only has to look to the Australian experiment of gun bans to see that there is no correlation between guns and violence.  The following article which was published in 2009, five years after the gun ban in the land down-under, clearly shows that bans don't work.

Isn't it time that we get off this emotional tirade and get down to things that will work such as mental health screening for those who want to purchase weapons. It would have worked in Colorado but not in Connecticut since the kid killer stole the guns from his mother after killing her.

Maybe we cannot stop crime--isn't that a revelation! It seems to be part of human nature as there are dangerous, evil people who inhabit  this world. We cannot change people by passing a law or taking away tools that they might use, unless we put everyone in their own self-enclosed bubble. That would not be a great solution.

However, there will be those who think they know better than the rest of us (hint: Obama, Biden and Feinstein) but they will be wrong and their efforts will be as fruitless as other attempts to regulate human behavior by passing a law.  Law abiding people will not violate the rules, however, law breakers, will still do as they wish.

Australia tried to change human nature and they failed. We should not try to improve on a failed experiment.

AUSTRALIA: MORE VIOLENT CRIME DESPITE GUN BAN

April 13, 2009
It is a common fantasy that gun bans make society safer.  In 2002 -- five years after enacting its gun ban -- the Australian Bureau of Criminology acknowledged there is no correlation between gun control and the use of firearms in violent crime.  In fact, the percent of murders committed with a firearm was the highest it had ever been in 2006 (16.3 percent), says the D.C. Examiner.
Even Australia's Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research acknowledges that the gun ban had no significant impact on the amount of gun-involved crime:
  • In 2006, assault rose 49.2 percent and robbery 6.2 percent.
  • Sexual assault -- Australia's equivalent term for rape -- increased 29.9 percent.
  • Overall, Australia's violent crime rate rose 42.2 percent.
Moreover, Australia and the United States -- where no gun-ban exists -- both experienced similar decreases in murder rates:
  • Between 1995 and 2007, Australia saw a 31.9 percent decrease; without a gun ban, America's rate dropped 31.7 percent.
  • During the same time period, all other violent crime indices increased in Australia: assault rose 49.2 percent and robbery 6.2 percent.
  • Sexual assault -- Australia's equivalent term for rape -- increased 29.9 percent.
  • Overall, Australia's violent crime rate rose 42.2 percent.
  • At the same time, U.S. violent crime decreased 31.8 percent: rape dropped 19.2 percent; robbery decreased 33.2 percent; aggravated assault dropped 32.2 percent.
  • Australian women are now raped over three times as often as American women.
While this doesn't prove that more guns would impact crime rates, it does prove that gun control is a flawed policy.  Furthermore, this highlights the most important point: gun banners promote failed policy regardless of the consequences to the people who must live with them, says the Examiner.

Guns Do Protect People

How many are prepared to repulse an attack of a intruder? Most of are not, however, in the following story, a Georgia mother protected herself and her kids by the use of a (gasp) gun. How dare someone protect themselves and their family?

The popular leftist argument is that there are very few people who are protected by a gun but rather, they argue, you have a greater chance of being killed if there is a weapon in the house. The problem with their argument is that most repulsed attacks are not reported since no one died or was sent to the hospital. Instead, the knuckle dragger was scared off when a weapon was produced or a shot fired.  There is no statistical record of these type of actions.

We are strong believers in the Second Amendment and feel that it is under attack by the Administration. The Vice President told the Boston mayor, that the situation will be addressed by the end of January.  We doubt that any bill can be passed that would be approved by both houses and signed by the President in that short a time.  Therefore, we believe it will be done administratively. Obama will impose new fees on gun owners.

As we have written before, these fees will be onerous, outrageous fees that will make every law-abiding gun owner pause before paying them.  Some will not and those guns will be turned into local police agencies. This will not be good for the good guys.

Therefore, we need more stories about the real value of an armed populace and will continue to search for these articles and will post them as we get them. Should you see one that we have not, please forward it to us at tom.conservativemusings1@gmail.com

Thanks.

LOGANVILLE, Ga. —
A woman hiding in her attic with children shot an intruder multiple times before fleeing to safety Friday.

The incident happened at a home on Henderson Ridge Lane in Loganville around 1 p.m. The woman was working in an upstairs office when she spotted a strange man outside a window, according to Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman. He said she took her 9-year-old twins to a crawlspace before the man broke in using a crowbar.

But the man eventually found the family.

"The perpetrator opens that door. Of course, at that time he's staring at her, her two children and a .38 revolver," Chapman told Channel 2’s Kerry Kavanaugh.

The woman then shot him five times, but he survived, Chapman said. He said the woman ran out of bullets but threatened to shoot the intruder if he moved.

"She's standing over him, and she realizes she's fired all six rounds. And the guy's telling her to quit shooting," Chapman said.

The woman ran to a neighbor's home with her children. The intruder attempted to flee in his car but crashed into a wooded area and collapsed in a nearby driveway, Chapman said.

Deputies arrested 32-year-old Atlanta resident Paul Slater in connection with the crime. Chapman said they found him on the ground saying, "Help me. I'm close to dying." Slater was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center for treatment.  Chapman said Slater was shot in the face and neck.

In February, Slater was arrested on simple battery charges, according to the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office. He has been arrested six other times in the county since 2008.

Kavanaugh was the first reporter at the scene as deputies investigated. The victim's husband told Kavanaugh he's proud of his wife. He was on the phone with her as the intruder broke in.

"My wife is a hero. She protected her kids. She did what she was supposed to do as responsible, prepared gun owner," Donnie Herman said.

He said he's thankful for his family's safety.

"Her life is saved, and her kids' life is saved, and that's all I'd like to say," Herman said.
Channel 2’s Amy Napier Viteri learned from Chapman late Friday night that slater has been placed on a ventilator and suffers from punctured lungs, a punctured liver and a punctured stomach.
He said if Slater survives the night, doctors will try to operate in the morning to repair the damage.
Chapman said Slater has four exit wounds.
Slater is currently being charged with burglary.

Media Bias Against Guns

Why have we not heard of the San Antonio deputy sheriff who shot the knuckle-dragging idiot who had just shot and killed his ex-girlfriend? Because it does not meet with their view of guns and gun violence! Someone preventing crime by the use of a gun is a crime in the eyes of the biased media. It denies them the blood and gore they need for ratings. Also,  It does not meet with their definition of guns which is they are all bad and should all be banned. So they leave out the good news and only focus on the bad.

Today there was another shooting in Aurora, Colorado, the same city as the theater shooting some six months ago. The San Jose Mercury news covered it as did most other news outlets.  Their article:  (http://www.mercurynews.com/nation-world/ci_22317237/four-dead-inside-aurora-colorado-home-including-gunman)     can be read if you want. However, if you check, there is no mention of the San Antonio shooting at all. Why would a killing get top billing and someone who saves lives not get mentioned at all?

It goes back to the news media mantra, if it bleeds, it leads. However, after the Sandy Hook tragedy, all we heard about was how bad guns were. Yet, here and in innumerable other cases, someone with a gun has saved many lives. Why are we not hearing a balanced approach?  Isn't that what the news is supposed to present?

This is just another nail in the coffin of the freedom of the press. They are no longer news organizations, they are political organs which report only the items that meet the approval of the Democratic party and its supporters. They are like Pravda in the old Soviet Union.

Yes, this country as we have known it is on its last legs. Soon the press will only be able to report on news that the White House approves. Oops--that already has happened.  Maybe we are further down the road than we thought!

Your comments are welcome.

Be scared, be very scared.

Conservative Tom

P.S. Thanks to one of my high school friends mom who sent me the following article!

On Sunday Dec. 16 2012, 2 days after the CT shooting, a man went to a restaurant in San Antonio to kill his X-girlfriend. After he shot her, most of the people in the restaurant fled next door to a theater. The gunman followed them and entered the theater so he could shoot more people. He started shooting and people in the theater started running and screaming. It's like the Aurora, CO theater story plus a restaurant! Now aren't you wondering why this isn't a lead story in the national media along with the school shooting? There was an off duty county deputy at the theater. SHE pulled out her gun and shot the man 4 times before he had a chance to kill anyone. So since this story makes the point that the best thing to stop a bad person with a gun is a good person with a gun, the media is treating it like it never happened. Only the local media covered it. The city is giving her a medal next week. Just thought you'd like to know.
Unfortunately the person that shot this shooter wasn't a average civilian or better yet a 65 year old retired veteran.
