This Is How The Obama Administration Stonewalled The Truth About "Operation Fast And Furious "Gun Running Operation And How They Tried To Control Reporters. It Is To Show How Manipulative The Adminstration Was

Emails show Obama administration targeted reporter over her coverage of 'Operation Fast and Furious' scandal

  • Journalist Sharyl Attkisson was an attack dog while at CBS, following the 'Fast and Furious' gun scandal that dogged the Justice Department
  • Email released as part of a Freedom Of Information Act lawsuit shows DOJ communications chief saying she would pressure network higher-ups to rein her in
  • 'She's out of control,' wrote then-Justice flack Tracy Schmaler, accusing her of lodging 'a bulls**t accusation' about the gun-'walking' operation
  • Email conversation was with White House strategist Eric Schultz, who was later promoted to the job of principal deputy press secretary
The Department of Justice's top communications official plotted to squash a reporter who aggressively covered the agency's ill-fated Operation Fast and Furious gun scandal in 2011, previously secret emails show.
The emails, between the DOJ's then-communications chief Tracy Schmaler and White House press flack Eric Schultz, are a rare look inside the Obama administration's press control machine.
They were released Thursday while the nation was preoccupied with President Barack Obama's immigration policy announcement, as the result of a long-languishing Freedom Of Information Act lawsuit filed by the center-right watchdog group Judicial Watch.
In one message, Schmaler told Schultz that CBS journalist Sharyl Attkisson needed to be reined in, writing that she was 'calling Sharryl's [sic] editor and reaching out to Scheiffer. She's out of control.'

Attorney General Eric Holder told Congress in 2011 that he had only learned of the deadly gun 'walking' program 'for the first time over the last few weeks,' but Attkisson published documents that proved otherwise

Schieffer refers to CBS news anchor Bob Schieffer, a journalist who has enjoyed a chummy relationship with the Obama White House. He interviewed the president two weeks ago in a rare on-camera appearance.
Schmaler hatched her plan a day after Attkisson reported on documents showing Attorney General Eric Holder was sent briefings on the Fast and Furious operation beginning in 2010. That directly contradicted his sworn statements to Congress.
In May 2011 Holder told a House Judiciary Committee panel that 'I'm not sure of the exact date, but I probably heard about Fast and Furious for the first time over the last few weeks.'
The House of Representatives later held Holder in criminal Contempt of Congress for failing to turn over subpoenaed documents related to the scandal.
In her emails, Schmaler told Schultz that she had 'I spent much of last night explaining to everyone it's a bulls**t accusation.'
Attkisson, who left CBS a year ago over concerns that the network was reflexively killing stories that were critical of the administration, told MailOnline that the federal government's backroom plotting was in line with what she experienced previously.
'This is just the tip of the iceberg. ... Now people have a black and white email from the perpetrators to see for themselves what I've long known,' she said.
Operation Fast and Furious was a program that the involved Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives – a subagency of the DOJ – encouraging gun dealers to knowingly sell weapons to 'straw buyers' who intended to traffick them across the Mexican border.

The administration intended to track the guns, hopefully to Mexican drug cartels, but lost control of two-thirds of the 2,000 firearms involved. One was the weapon that killed a U.S. Border Patrol agent, and others were tied to hundreds of deaths of Mexican nationals.
'Think about the outrage,' Attkisson said Friday. 'They are angry not that Dept. of Justice employees embarked upon an ill-advised cross-border operation to arm Mexican drug cartels, or that the Attorney General provided conflicting testimony before Congress: They're mad that I did my job and reported on it.'
The Justice Department was at one point forced to retract testimony that denied the government was knowingly 'walking' guns into Mexico.
'Also, it appears to be wholly inappropriate use of presidential executive privilege,' she said, referring to the White House's years-long delay in releasing the trove of emails.
'There is nothing in this email that legally justifies why the president would have invoked executive privilege to keep it secret from the public and Congress all this time until forced by a lawsuit to turn it over.'
Schultz did not respond to a request for comment. Schmaler could not be reached Friday.
The emails also include an indication that the Justice Department provided leaked documents to a National Journal reporter in order to counter Attkisson's reporting.
'I sent NJ's Susan Davis your way,' Schmaler told Schultz. 'She's writing on [Rep. Darrell] Issa/FandF and I said you could load her up on the leaks, etc.'
Issa, the hard-charging House Oversight Committee chairman from Califonia, was the most aggressive pit bull chasing the scandal in Congress at the time.
Schultz seemed disappointed that Davis was the only high-profile journalist to write a follow-up story that took the administration's side.
'Why do you think nobody else wrote?' he asked. 'Were they not fed the docs?'

CONSPIRATORS? Tracy Schmaler (left) and Eric Schultz (right) discussed frankly how to supply some reporters with documents while they tried to restrain others
Schultz was later promoted within the administration and now holds the position of principal deputy press secretary, briefing reporters at the White House and aboard Air Force One when Press Secretary Josh Earnest is unavailable.
Attkisson's book, 'Stonewalled,' chronicles her experiences.
Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton said in a statement that the tranche of emails released Thursday 'are a road map to the Obama administration’s Fast and Furious cover-up and deadly lies.'
He told MailOnline on Friday that 'it is disturbing to see top officials at the Obama White House and Justice Department targeting a journalist for destruction because she dared published the truth.'
'I wonder: Just how big is Obama enemies list?'
'President Obama’s dishonest assertion of executive privilege over this material would have embarrassed Richard Nixon,' he said.

The Left Is Not In It To Help Improve Things, Just To Throw Bombs At Administrations In Israel And The US. Maybe They Should Join ISIS!

The Left’s Never-Ending War

The push among the American Left to discredit the results of last month’s presidential election entered a new phase last Friday with the White House’s announcement that outgoing US President Barack Obama has ordered US intelligence agencies to review evidence of Russian hacking in last month’s elections on behalf of President-elect Donald Trump.
The investigation itself is unlikely to lead to any conclusive results. The FBI, which is responsible for carrying out this sort of investigation, saw no evidence that Russian hacking was aimed specifically at assisting Trump’s campaign against Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
Despite this, Obama has chosen to make the probe the top priority of US intelligence agencies.
He urged them to finish their investigation before he leaves office. And, according to his deputy press secretary Eric Schultz, he aims to publicize as many the findings as he can.
Friday afternoon, Schultz said, “We’re going to make public as much as we can. As you can imagine, something like this might include sensitive and even classified information. When that report is submitted, we’re going to take a look. We want to brief Congress and the relevant stakeholders, possibly state directors.”
Democratic Senator Ron Wyden responded positively to Schultz’s statement. “This is good news,” he said. “Declassifying and releasing information about the Russian government and the US election, and doing so quickly, must be a priority.”
But why disclose the findings of an inconclusive investigation? There is only one reason to do so: to delegitimize the election results and so make the Trump administration radioactive for Democrats.

Once a pall of suspicion is cast over the legitimacy of Trump’s presidency by the outgoing Democratic White House, no self-respecting Democrat with a survival instinct will be willing to cooperate with the Trump administration.
It is no coincidence that Obama ordered the probe hot on the heels of Green Party candidate Jill Stein’s failed recount bid. The purpose of Stein’s recount, for which she raised more money than she raised for her entire presidential campaign, was identical to the purpose of the probe. There was no chance that the recounts in the Rust Belt states that swerved toward Republicans and sealed Trump’s victory would change the election results. The point of the recount, like the espionage probe and the “fake news” meme, is to keep the faithful believing.
They may not have Congress. They may not have the White House. But by God, they are going to make the other guys choke on their victory.
This has become the purpose of the Left, not only in the US but throughout the Western world over the past decade or so. As their promised panaceas to their nations’ problems have failed one by one, in country after country, leftist politicians, ideologues, financiers and activists have kept their movements going not by offering alternative policies that might actually work or by suggesting that they work with their political and ideological opponents for the betterment of their countries. They have kept their faithful in the tent by feeding them a steady diet of hatred for the other side.
This is how things work in Israel.
Long gone are the days when leftists argued passionately about their ideal of land for peace, a passion which informed their actions for a generation.
After the peace process with the PLO was exposed as a jihad, after unilateral withdrawals brought war from Lebanon and Gaza, the Left knows that its policies will never win the public to its side.
So it has moved on to the politics of personal and social destruction.
The most blatant aspect of this continuous campaign of destruction and delegitimization is the Left’s campaign against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his wife Sara and, increasingly, their children.
Consider the ongoing criminal probe into Mrs.
Netanyahu’s management of the prime minister’s residence.
A week and a half ago, Channel 2 broadcast alleged protocols from Sara Netanyahu’s 12-hour investigation by the national fraud division. According to the broadcast protocols, Mrs. Netanyahu was upbraided by investigators demanding to know why she told caterers that her dinner guests were foreigners rather than Israelis and why she claimed more people were coming to dinner than actually came.
She was grilled about a thousand shekel bonus paid to a worker at the prime minister’s residence who helped her take care of her aging father when his nurse was on her day off.
Even the reporters sitting in the television studio couldn’t believe what they were hearing. How is it possible that Mrs. Netanyahu was interrogated for 12 hours about schnitzels? The answer is clear enough. The purpose of the constant investigations of Mrs. Netanyahu is twofold.
First, they are aimed at demonizing the Netanyahu family as corrupt. It doesn’t matter what Netanyahu did or didn’t do. It doesn’t matter that the investigation appears to be entirely frivolous.
The point of the investigation isn’t to put Sara Netanyahu in jail. It is to tar her and her good-for-nothing husband as corrupt.
The second purpose of the prolonged chicken-dinner investigation was to make it impossible for Netanyahu to function. How can any husband work while his wife is being interrogated by the national fraud division? At around the same time that Mrs. Netanyahu was being interrogated about “schnitzel-gate,” the media were broadcasting daily headlines about an alleged corruption scandal related to Netanyahu’s decision five years ago to approve the acquisition of three more submarines from Germany. The media alleged – in stories blasted across page 1 headlines in the major papers and opening the nightly news broadcasts night after night – that Netanyahu’s decision to approve the submarine purchase was motivated by the fact that his personal attorney, and cousin, David Shimron, represented one of the German companies involved in the sale.
It took less than a week for the allegations to fall apart. But that doesn’t mean the story is over.
Just as Obama decided to use his last weeks in office to discredit Trump’s victory despite the FBI’s rejection of the allegation that Russia had a hand in it, so the Israeli Left uses the baseless allegations of corruption against Netanyahu and his family to incite its members to continue to view him as illegitimate.
Sunday night the Erel Margalit, the multimillionaire venture capitalist turned Labor MK turned populist rabble rouser, joined forces with Eldad Yaniv, Ehud Barak’s former spinmaster who has reinvented himself as a populist man of the people.
The two posted an online video calling for the public to join them in demanding that Netanyahu be investigated.
Yaniv and Margalit took the red headlines related to the German submarine purchase and peppered them with photos of Netanyahu smoking a cigar and laughing with his sons and wife, and living the good life with a friend on the beach. They alleged that Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit is the Netanyahu family’s consigliere and that Police Inspector General Roni Elshech is in his pocket.
Yaniv and Margalit brought no substantive claims.
Their montage was pure vilification. They argued irrationally that high food prices are caused by the submarine purchase.
The purpose of the film is obvious. Bereft of an attractive platform to sell the public, they are selling the only thing they have left to rally their ever dwindling base: hatred.
Since last month’s US election, a minority of Democrats have called for their party to moderate its policies. Ohio Congressman Tim Ryan ran a failed bid against Rep. Nancy Pelosi to serve as Democratic minority chairman in the House of Representatives arguing just that case.
Ryan’s loss, like Obama’s espionage probe makes clear that the Democrats will not consider a more moderate course. The majority has no intention of changing its positions. Rather, they intend to keep their adherents on a war footing so that they won’t have the opportunity to even consider a course correction.
By veering from the recount to fake news allegations to the Russian hacking story, the radicals who control the Democratic Party keeps their activists on a war footing. The faithful are given no opportunity to reflect even for a moment on the substantive issues that formed the heart of the presidential race.
The glum conclusion from all of this is clear enough. With their policies rejected by voters, the purpose of the Left isn’t to govern. It is to render their societies ungovernable.

What Does Biden's Withdrawal From Presidential Sweepstakes Mean?

Biden: I'm Not Running

Wednesday, 21 Oct 2015 05:28 PM
Vice President Joe Biden said on Wednesday he would not run for president in 2016, ending months of indecision and removing one of Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton's biggest potential obstacles to the party's nomination.
Biden, 72, appeared in the White House Rose Garden with his wife Jill and President Barack Obama to say the window for mounting a successful campaign had closed.
Biden's announcement ended a highly public "will he or won't he?" political guessing game about his intentions that had shadowed Clinton's campaign and frozen the support of some Democratic activists and donors.
"While I will not be a candidate, I will not be silent," Biden said. "I intend to speak out clearly and forcefully to influence as much as I can where we stand as a party and where we need to go as a nation."
Biden had been wrestling with doubts about whether he and his family were ready for a grueling campaign while still mourning his son Beau, who died of brain cancer in May. His son had urged him to run.
Making good on his promise to speak out, Biden took a veiled jab at Clinton, chiding Democrats who referred to Republicans as their enemies and saying Democrats would be making a "tragic mistake" if they walked away from Obama's record.
Clinton had listed Republicans among her enemies during last week's presidential debate and had broken with Obama by moving to the left on such issues as the Keystone XL pipeline and the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
"I don't think we should look at Republicans as our enemies. They are our opposition, they're not our enemies," Biden said.
Speculation about a Biden candidacy had grown as Clinton slumped in polls and questions grew about her honesty and trustworthiness amid the controversy over her use of a private email server while secretary of state.
But what was widely hailed as a command performance by Clinton in the Oct. 13 Democratic debate turned the tide back in her favor and quieted talk that she was vulnerable in her quest for her party's nomination for the November 2016 election.
A Clinton spokesman said she called Biden after he announced his decision. In a statement, she called him "a good man and a great vice president" and said she was confident he would continue to be on the political front lines.

BOOST FOR CLINTON
Biden's decision was a boost for Clinton, whose prime challenger now is U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont. A self-styled democratic socialist, Sanders has galvanized the party's left wing but has yet to prove he can broaden his appeal.
Latest News Update

"It's an easier path for Hillary Clinton now," said Democratic strategist Bud Jackson. "Most polls reflect that without Biden in the race, it's more beneficial to her."
Jumping into the race so late would have been a huge challenge for Biden, who would have had to quickly build a fundraising network and campaign structure ahead of the first nominating contest in Iowa on Feb. 1.
"Unfortunately, I believe we're out of time, the time necessary to mount a winning campaign for the nomination," Biden said in the Rose Garden. "The process doesn't respect or much care about filing deadlines or debate or primaries and caucuses. But I also know I couldn't do this if the family isn't ready."
Biden, who is popular with white, working-class voters, could still play a major role and become a valuable surrogate for Democrats against the Republican nominee in the general election campaign.
SUPPORT UP FOR CLINTON
Clinton's support among Democrats jumped after the October debate, a Reuters/Ipsos poll showed. On Tuesday, Clinton had the backing of nearly 49 percent of poll participants, followed by Sanders at almost 26 percent. Biden's support was at 14.5 percent, with a credibility interval of 3.7 percent.
A White House official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Biden made his decision not to run on Tuesday night.
Another official, spokesman Eric Schultz, said Obama had served as a "sounding board" for Biden during the process. "That's not just as he copes with unspeakable loss, but also as he makes very personal decisions about his political future," Schultz, traveling with Obama, told reporters on Air Force One after Biden spoke.
Biden ran for president in 1988 and 2008, both times failing to gain traction despite more than three decades as a U.S. senator from Delaware.
Biden supporters did not appear to be automatically falling in line behind Clinton after the announcement, with 11 of the 21 contacted by Reuters saying they were unsure they would back her.
Longtime Biden supporter Sara Riley, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, said she was now "100 percent" behind another Democratic contender, former Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley, although she will support Clinton if she is the nominee.
Democratic fundraiser Daniel Alpert, managing partner at Westwood Capital, a New York-based boutique investment bank, said he is now undecided between Clinton and Sanders. He wants more clarity on Clinton's policies, and wants Sanders to prove that he can run a credible campaign in the general election.
Enthusiasm was muted even among the 10 Biden supporters interviewed by Reuters who said they would now support Clinton. Joseph Conaway, 78, the former mayor of Bridgeville, Delaware, and a friend of the Biden family, said he was planning on going to Iowa to work for Biden had he run.
"I have no reason to go to Iowa now," he said.
