Ironic That Guns Protect The Students. But They Are Comfortable With The Government Having Guns, Not Citizens

Hundreds of thousands of students and Americans have descended on Washington for the first ever “March for Our Lives” rally. The rally was organized by students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School who are outspokenly in-favor of gun control.
So it wasn’t without irony when photos and videos surfaced showing a very heavy police and military presence at the march. And yes, those offering protection are armed with firearms.
The rally has garnered support from every corner of the world, including celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Kanye West to former President Barack Obama. Progressive organizations like Planned Parenthood and Michael Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety are also supporting the rally.

Why Is A 501(c)(4) Allowed Not To Disclose Donors? Sounds Like A Dark Money Pit

‘March For Our Lives’ Now Operating Under Dark Money Nonprofit Advocacy Group

Group will not be required to reveal its donors

March For Our Lives, a demonstration involving survivors of the Parkland school shooting that will take place Saturday in Washington, D.C., and across the country, registered a 501(c)(4) nonprofit advocacy organization that is not required to disclose its donors.
The March for Our Lives Action Fund, a 501(c)(4) "social welfare" nonprofit organization, was registered on March 8 with the D.C. Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs, records show. The action fund lists its business address in Encino, Calif., and its agent as CT Corporation System, a D.C.-based firm that offers agent, incorporation, and corporate business compliance services.
Jeri Rhodes, an associate executive secretary for finance and administration at the Friends Committee on National Legislation, a group that "lobbies Congress and the administration to advance peace, justice, opportunity, and environmental stewardship," is also listed as the action fund's executing officer and governor on its registration. Rhodes previously served as chief financial officer for Greenpeace.
While the organization said on its website it is "for kids and by kids" and the "March For Our Lives organizers are the kids themselves," it also said the kids "have brought in support to help ensure it is a success." A coalition of liberal advocacy groups are currently involved in organizing and planning the march. In addition to support from leading gun-control groups like Everytown for Gun Safety, the Brady Campaign, and Giffords, organizers from the Women's March, Planned Parenthood, and Move On are involved with the permitting for the event as well as promoting it.
March For Our Lives is even directing donations to Everytown, which has set up a March For Our Lives Initiative under their own 501(c)(3) operation. Donations to that fund will be tax deductible, and its donors will have to be publicly disclosed.
However, the March For Our Lives Action Fund, as a 501(c)(4) organization, will not be required to disclose its donors, and individuals who send cash to the group can remain anonymous. A 501(c)(4) designated group can be involved in political activity as long as it does not become its primary focus. The organization said on its website it chose to incorporate the group this way because it plans to lobby for new gun-control legislation even after Saturday's march.
"March for Our Lives Action Fund is tax-exempt under section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code," it said. "Unlike section 501(c)(3) charitable organizations which have restrictions on their lobbying activities, section 501(c)(4) organizations are permitted to conduct unlimited lobbying for federal tax purposes. This form of entity gives the students maximum flexibility to conduct high-impact legislative advocacy during the Day of Action and beyond."
They said the donations being made to the group now will be used to cover expenses for the march and also future lobbying efforts.
"Donations to the March For Our Lives Action Fund will cover all expenses associated with the march taking place in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, March 24th," the site said. "The funds will also be used to fight for comprehensive gun safety legislation at the local, state, and federal level, and will also include voter education, ballot initiatives, and lobbying state legislatures and Congress to protect America's kids."
Despite the anonymous nature of the group's funding, there is some information on who has given money to the group thus far because a number of celebrities have announced their own donations publicly. Oprah Winfrey, George Clooney, Steven Spielberg, and Jeffrey Katzenberg have each donated $500,000. The fashion company Gucci has also publicly announced their own half-million-dollar donation. Those publicly disclosed donations total $2.5 million.
The group also announced that the proceeds from the GoFundMe fundraiser, which raised $3.3 million in the immediate aftermath of the Parkland shooting, would be split between a separate fund that will help financially support the families of the victims and the March For Our Lives Action Fund. It is unclear how much money the Action Fund has raised since the GoFundMe fundraiser was ended and the group switched to raising money through The Action Network, a fundraising platform designed to assist progressive causes. The group won't be required to file financial disclosures for several months.
Rhodes and March for Our Lives did not immediately return a request for comment.

Will Supremes Uphold The Appeals Court? We Are Probably Going To See The End Of Concealed Weapons Rules.

Appeals Court Upholds California's Strict Concealed-Carry Gun Rules

A ruling with the potential to vastly expand the number of California residents permitted to carry concealed weapons in public was overturned by a federal appeals court.
The U.S. Court of Appeals in San Francisco on Thursday set aside a three-judge panel’s 2014 ruling that San Diego County’s process for determining who qualifies for a permit to carry a concealed weapon violates the constitutional right to bear arms. The decision is a loss for gun rights advocates including the National Rifle Association who have attacked some of the nation’s strictest public-carry laws.
An 11-judge panel took up the case after California Attorney General Kamala Harris asked for reconsideration of the earlier panel’s ruling that any responsible, law-abiding citizen is entitled under the U.S. Constitution’s Second Amendment to carry a hidden, loaded gun in public for self-defense. The earlier panel found that San Diego County’s sheriff overstepped his authority when he concluded an applicant for a concealed weapon permit didn’t demonstrate “good cause” to carry a Colt 1911 .45 caliber pistol in public.
Latest News Update
Special:
State regulations on the carrying of firearms in public have become a new battleground over gun rights following a U.S. Supreme Court ruling in 2008 that struck down a District of Columbia law banning handguns in the home.
‘Overwhelming Consensus’
“Based on the overwhelming consensus of historical sources, we conclude that the protection of the Second Amendment -- whatever the scope of that protection may be -- simply does not extend to the carrying of concealed firearms in public by members of the general public,” the majority wrote in Thursday’s 7-4 ruling.
Harris, a Democrat who is the front-runner for a U.S. Senate seat, was backed in court by several gun control groups, including Everytown for Gun Safety, whose advisory board includes former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Bloomberg is the founder and majority owner of Bloomberg LP, parent of Bloomberg News.
Thursday’s ruling is in line with those by appeals courts in New York, Philadelphia and Richmond, Virginia, that have upheld discretionary permitting.
The case is Peruta v. Gore, 10-56971, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit (San Francisco).

Is The Move For Gun Control By Michael Bloomberg Going To Work Or Is The A Covert Attempt To Destroy Both The Freedom Of Religion And The Second Amendment In One Fell Sweep?

From Right To Bear blog:

Michael Bloomberg Now Pushing Gun Control In Churches?

Screen Shot 2016-03-15 at 4.38.05 PMMichael Bloomberg has a vast, vast personal fortune at his fingertips.
The former mayor of NYC has used these funds to co-found organizations like Everytown for Gun Safety as well as using those same funds to bankroll other anti-gun organizations like Moms Demand Action etc.
The man will literally use his money in whatever way he pleases to help strike down second amendment freedoms.
And that would include using them to have people push gun control in places of worship.
Review Journal writes:
A Nevada group advocating for the passage of a ballot question that would extend firearm background checks to private party sales and some transfers is looking to a higher power.
Nevadans for Background Checks and Journey United Methodist Church, at 4880 E. Bonanza Road, near North Nellis Boulevard, joined forces to hold an educational seminar on the issue Monday night.
Senior pastor the Rev. Ann Thomas opened the meeting with a short Bible study, a passage about beating swords into plowshares, and a prayer.
“It points to an image that God has put before us of ‘where is our goal,’ ” she told the 20 or so congregants at the meeting. “Jesus preached, ‘Blessed are the peacemakers.’ ”
Ender Austin III, who handles faith outreach for Nevadans for Background Checks, reached out to her in February to set up the meeting, Thomas said.
While she supports the background check initiative, Thomas said her main goal was starting an open dialogue about the issue.
“There’s so much emotion around guns and gun violence,” she told the Las Vegas Review-Journal before the event. “I have no interest in taking peoples’ legitimate, legal guns away. I’m hoping to have a civil conversation.”
Austin, a youth pastor himself, spoke to the group about an experience he had watching a gun violence tragedy unfold on the news.
“It woke something up in me for me to not only be a good dad, but make the world safer for my son,” he said. “As Christians, we have an obligation to make this a safer society.”
Congregants asked questions about whether the proposed law would stop straw purchases or whether inherited guns would have to be taken to a dealer to sell them off.
Thomas did her best to answer them, using her smartphone to look up the ballot measure language on the Nevada secretary of state’s website.
Representatives from Nevadans for Background Checks also answered questions as well as distributed pledge cards and asked for support.
The measure isn’t a perfect solution, Thomas told the congregation, but it would make a difference.
“This initiative is so small in what it’s trying to do. It shouldn’t be controversial,” she said. “This is an initiative that actually makes sense.”
Gun rights proponents have taken issue with the ballot measure, because they worry the law would criminalize some of gun owners’ most common behaviors.
The National Rifle Association has said that universal background checks wouldn’t do anything to stop the high-profile examples of multiple-victim shootings.
Sharing guns with friends while target shooting in the desert may become a criminal act under Nevada’s proposed law, opponents say. The initiative makes exceptions for temporary transfers only in established shooting ranges, at competitions or performances, within a family, and in legal hunting areas with permits.
National Rifle Association spokeswoman Catherine Mortensen said her group has never known organizations such as Nevadans for Background Checks and Everytown for Gun Safety to campaign in churches.
“It’s unfortunate that this Bloomberg-backed group is going into houses of worship attempting to mislead good people about a bad initiative that could criminalize the everyday activities of the state’s law-abiding gun owners,” she said.
Does it really make sense to advocate for more gun control in churches?
If you look at the numbers there have been quite a few shootings in Christian churches. If anything more Christians should be armed, that way they can protect friends, family, and even people they don’t know.
Many people would say Christians are called to turn the other cheek, but it’s not like exercising your second amendment is a violation of that scripture.
Christians are justified to carry because it allows them to protect the flock, just like Jesus did.
So, is Bloomberg overstepping his bounds by pushing gun control advocacy in churches?

It's The New Year! Here Come The New Gun Regulations

131206obamatuxedo
President Obama made his New Year’s resolution known on Thursday: trample the Second Amendment under executive orders.
White House officials told CNN on Thursday that Obama’s gun-control measures are “imminent.” Supporters of the president said they expect an announcement to be made sometimes before the annual State of the Union address scheduled for Jan. 12.

“It is complicated. That’s why it’s taken some time for our policy folks, our lawyers, and our experts to work through this and see what’s possible,” White House spokesman Eric Schultz told CNN.
Obama has struggled to find a way to close the so-called “gun show loophole” since the Dec. 12, 2012, shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, by 20-year-old Adam Lanza.
Six adults and 20 children were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School before Lanza committed suicide. He executed his mother in their home earlier that day.
The loophole allegedly allows criminals to circumvent background checks through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, or NICS.
Individuals familiar with the president’s plan say it will change the definition of a small-scale gun owner, which requires them to conduct a background check any time a weapon is sold.
Gun-rights advocates say the vast majority of prisoners convicted of gun crimes obtained weapons through theft; countless crimes are committed by those who steal weapons; and criminals often obtain weapons from straw purchasers, which background checks cannot prevent.
“[Obama] is doing what he always does when he doesn’t get his way, defying the will of the people and using executive action,” NRA spokeswoman Jennifer Baker told CNN Thursday. “The fact is, the President’s gun control agenda will only make it harder for law-abiding citizens to exercise their right to self-defense.”

A top industry executive told Politico Obama’s plan is a prime example of “overreach” given Congress’ current definition of a small-scale seller.
“If you are not doing it for the principal purpose of earning a livelihood and earn a profit, you are not engaged in the business as defined by Congress,” the executive,  whose opinion was shaped by conversations with ATF officials this month, told the website.
Everytown for Gun Safety, the gun-control group launched by former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg in 2014, told Politico its ideal executive orders by Obama would make the following criteria a red flag for requiring a license:
  • Selling guns in original packaging.
  • Reselling a gun soon after it has been acquired.
  • Maintaining a certain quantity of guns for sale.
  • Selling more than 25 guns a year.
“Any kind of clarification would be beneficial in this context because right now most sellers and prosecutors are kind of flying blind,” said Liz Avore, Everytown’s legal director.
One of the last things Obama did before leaving for his Hawaiian vacation Dec. 18 was to meet with Bloomberg.
The White House told CNN Dec. 18 that Obama and Bloomberg “discussed ways to keep guns out of the hands of those who should not have access to them and what more could be done at the state and local level to help address gun violence in America.”
