Senate Republicans capitulate

By Rick Manning - 07/16/13 02:08 PM ET
Welcome to the new Senate, the formerly august body where the minority used to be able to influence executive branch nominations through a vetting process and the threat of blocking confirmation is no more.
In their quest to “save” the institution, John McCain (R-Ariz.) and his merry band of quislings have given the president carte blanche to submit anyone he wants for confirmation with a guarantee of quick and easy passage.
Incredibly, McCain and friends even appear to have agreed to not filibuster unknown future NLRB nominees, with a return of former pariah Craig Becker even a possibility. After all, it would be a shame to actually do your constitutionally mandated job and stop nominees who have a proven willingness to put personal agenda over the law.
In my reading of the Constitution, it calls this process advice and consent, not advice and concede.
However, at least the filibuster has been saved, so future Democrat Senate minorities can use it to stop qualified nominees, like Miguel Estrada, based upon their ethnicity.
We have now learned that no Obama nominee is too extreme for the Republican gangsters who now form a filibuster-proof majority for Harry Reid (D-Nev.).
Thomas Perez, who finds the rule of law a minor inconvenience and will use the full enforcement power of the Labor Department to seek out and destroy companies that don’t embrace organized labor, is A-OK.
Gina McCarthy, who Obama announced would be tasked with bypassing Congress using the EPA's regulatory authority to implement a climate change agenda that would not even pass the Senate, gets the golden ticket.
Richard Cordray, who Obama deemed to be so unconfirmable when he placed him as the head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau without going through the previously inviolable Senate process, is legitimized in the Republican cave-in.
And Reid retains the hammer of promising to nuke the Senate in the future, whenever he decides the minority party is getting out of its place.
At least those who ganged up on the Republican side to rubber stamp Obama’s radical nominees have stripped away the fiction that electing a Republican majority in the Senate matters.
After all, if the McCain gang is effectively the swing governance party in the Senate, there would not be any policy changes sent to the president’s desk that were not pre-approved by his cabal. That's not exactly the kind of red meat that turns out voters in an intensity election.
Of course, at least there are always primaries for voters who want their senators to stand up and obstruct the radical Obama agenda to be heard.

The Unserious Idiots Who Run Congress

Bill Whittle take those unscrupulous, thieving idiots who run Congress (both parties) to task in the accompanying video.  It is well worth the time listening to it.

He calls upon all serious people from whatever party to join together to fix this country before it is too late. We agree, however, question whether there will ever be enough patriots to force this country to  get off its spending habits which has become a drug!. We simply cannot keep spending, however, where are the cuts going to come from? Our ideas would simply rankle many. Who has the moral courage to say "we won't stand for this anymore!"  Are you going to be part of the army of patriots who will finally get the attention of the spending whores?

Let us know what we can do to organize this army.  And listen to Bill, he is speaking the truth.

Sewage Washington Style

The Republican leadership in the House is miserable. They do not know how to play hardball politics and roll over every time there is a conflict.  Personally, we are getting a bit sick of it!

On top of that you add the Republican Senators who pushed Boehner to make the concession, where are they coming from?  How can they allow Reed to get his way by not taking up the bill as passed by the House? This is the poorest example of leadership I have ever seen.  It is ineptitude and incompetency at the highest level of our government.

It is an old rejoinder, but it is time to "throw them all out!"

If you celebrate Christmas or Hanukkah or Kwanzaa, have a Happy one!

It is possible that raw sewage has greater political acumen than the Republicans in Congress.  Unlike the Republicans, sewage at least figures out how to flow through Washington with the least resistance.
This past week has been embarrassing for the GOP.  Mitch McConnell, heralded as a brilliant strategist by some, negotiated a two-month extension of the payroll tax holiday with enough changes from the present tax holiday that small businesses discovered they would be unable to even implement the changes before the tax holiday expires in two months.
The House of Representatives made clear that it would oppose a two month extension because it kept uncertainty in the economy, businesses could not even take advantage of it anyway, and the tax holiday was paid for with permanent fee increases on people buying houses.
Then they caved after a bit of a spectacle.  Embarrassing.
But if you think that is embarrassing, consider what's next on Congress's agenda.  Republicans and Democrats are joining together in bipartisan legislation to stop online piracy on the internet.  The legislation, authored by Rep. Lamar Smith (R.-Texas) and co-sponsored by such diverse congress critters as Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R.-Tenn.) and Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D.-Fla.), would allow Attorney General Eric Holder to shut down any website in America he deemed to violate someone else's intellectual property.
Yes, Republicans want to give the man who claims cluelessness about Operation Fast and Furious the power to shut down the internet.  It is a rare moment of bipartisanship proving the rule that occasionally the stupid party and evil party get together to do something that is both stupid and evil.  They then call it bipartisan.
For now though, there is good news.  Congress is going home for Christmas.  Our liberties are safe for a few weeks.
From all of us at Human Events and RedState.com, have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

The Truth Teller--Joe Biden?

Did you fall off your chair when you read the title? Many would not think that the "out of control mouth" could be labeled as a "truth teller."  It is our opinion that it might not be truth that always emanates from the Bidenator,  it definitely will be what the current administration is thinking, or at least his opinion of its thought process. We  have seen it before and believe that as long as he is Vice President we will continue to him spout off.

This latest episode puts to rest the liberal rant of "it is Bush's fault."  No longer can that phrase be used. Democratic strategists must be very angry as it takes away their greatest catch phrase. Republicans will play this latest blast from Biden over and over.

Now that we know the economy is Obama's fault, what tact can they take in his re-election bid? It will be interesting. He has blasted the Congressional Black Caucus, today his approval numbers were reported  to have dropped to 39%, his Middle East attitudes lost Weiner's seat in New Year and his Vice President can't keep his mouth closed.  What is a President to do?

Dick Morris thinks there is a chance he will pull an LBJ and not run for re-election.  With each passing day, that could become a reality. However, in our poll of our readers, 80% thought that he would run. The remaining are more on our side. If he did pull out, who would be the candidate? Biden? Hillary? Pilosi? Harry Reed?

Tell us what you think.  We are listening.

Joe Biden’s moment of candor

By Armstrong Williams - 09/30/11 12:36 PM ET
Say what you will about the vice president, but Joe Biden has one helluva mouth on him. Whether it’s telling the president in front of a large crowd (and a very hot mic) this is one big … er, well, you know … or telling a key swing presidential state that his boss is to blame for its financial woes, he’s nothing if he ain’t honest.

Early yesterday (while on a campaign swing, mind you), Joe Biden missed a key talking point while visiting a local Florida radio station. Apparently, the abysmal state of America’s economy is no longer former President Bush’s fault, but his own!

“There’s a lot of people in Florida that have good reason to be upset because they’ve lost jobs," Biden told WLRN in the interview. "Even though 50 some percent of the American people think the economy tanked because of the last administration, that's not relevant.

"What’s relevant is, we’re in charge. And right now, we are the ones in charge, and it’s gotten better but it hasn't gotten good enough. And in states like Florida it's even been more stagnant because of the real estate market.”

And now here come the RNC attack ads, Mr. Vice President …

Look, it seems everyone in the country BUT the White House knows the Obama administration has underperformed in fixing the economy. I’m just glad someone high in the administration finally admitted it.

The sad truth here is there is still time to turn this economy around and take credit for it. If Obama would quit the shrill complaining and finger-pointing and go about responsibly addressing the nation’s woes, his handlers wouldn’t have to worry about Joe Biden going off the reservation.
