Parkland Shooting Sheriff Might Soon Be Seeking New Employment

Sheriff Israel being removed from office in Broward County

The sheriff that found himself being scrutinized over the high school shooting in Parkland, FL is about to have his world turned upside down.
According to new reports, Sheriff Scott Israel will be removed from office within a week.

Surprising Reason

When the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School happened, it immediately became apparent the local sheriff’s office was, at the very least, minimally responsible for the events that took place.
There was reportedly an officer outside the school who heard shooting, yet never acted.
Sheriff Israel tried to direct the attention away from his officers by blaming gun control on the shooting.
But as the incident was further investigated, the sheriff threw his officers under the bus rather than putting any of the blame directly on himself for lack of leadership.
Most suspected the sheriff would eventually be removed from office for some type of dereliction of duty, but that is not what happened.
He is actually being removed for alleged criminal issues, as well as reportedly being investigated by the IRS.

Where There’s Smoke…

The public first became aware of the investigation into the sheriff when FBI Director Christopher Wray was called to testify before the Inspector General.
When specifically asked about Sheriff Israel and the shooting, Wray said he could not comment because of a pending investigation.
Wray himself is also facing considerable scrutiny, specifically from Florida Gov. Rick Scott.
The governor stated: “We constantly promote ‘see something, say something,’ and a courageous person did just that to the FBI. And the FBI failed to act.”
He continued: “’See something, say something’ is an incredibly important tool and people must have confidence in the follow through from law enforcement. The FBI Director needs to resign.”
Much the same was the cause of the initial investigation into Sheriff Israel.

Should Sheriff Israel Be Removed from Office?

Along with the gaffe from the FBI, reports revealed information his department could have acted upon to prevent the shooting, but they completely dropped the ball.
Gov. Scott is expected to make a formal announcement next week on the status of Sheriff Israel.

Parkland Shooting Survivor Lays Blame Where It Should Be On The Tragedy!

‘You failed us’! Hero MSD shooting survivor blasts Broward Sheriff, school superintendent

Marjory Stoneman Douglas student Anthony Borges, who was shot five times during the shooting and has been hailed as a hero for his actions to protect other students that day, was released from the hospital on Wednesday. Yesterday Borges delivered a statement to the media through the family attorney, and the blame for what happened was placed squarely on local authorities and administrators:
From CBS Miami:
“To Sheriff Israel of the Broward Sheriff’s Office and Robert Runcie, the Superintendent of schools in Broward, I want to thank you for visiting me at the hospital, but I want to say that both of you failed us, students, teachers and parents alike, on so many levels,” read his attorney Alex Arreaza.
Arreaza said Anthony, 15, lays blame for the shooting at the feet of Sheriff Israel and Runcie for not doing more to prevent self-confessed gunman Nikolas Cruz from being able to be in the school that day.
Borges’ statement says school officials allowed Cruz to continue attending school even after realizing he was dangerous.
Not long after the shooting, Sheriff Scott Israel had the nerve to go on television (with CNN’s full blessing) and blamed the NRA. Obviously not everybody who was there that day agrees with Israel.
Here’s more from CBS Miami:

The Element In Mass Attacks--It's Not The Guns!

Secret Service: Mental illness stalks many suspects in mass attacks

LINKEDIN 1COMMENTMORE
WASHINGTON — A striking number of suspects linked to violent attacks in schools and other public places last year were stalked by symptoms of mental illness and nearly half were motivated by real or perceived personal grievances, a new Secret Service report has found.
An examination of 28 attacks, which claimed nearly 150 lives and wounded hundreds of others — from Orlando to Las Vegas — also found that more than three-quarters of the assailants engaged in suspicious communications or conduct that raised concerns from others in advance of the assaults, according to the report due for release Thursday.
The analysis, prepared by the Secret Service's National Threat Assessment Center, had been underway months before the Feb. 14 massacre at a Parkland, Fla., high school, but its findings are likely to further fuel concerns about the untreated mentally ill and their access to high-powered firearms.
In the Parkland case, which has reinvigorated a national debate on gun safety, social workers, mental health counselors, school administrators and law enforcement were all warned about Nikolas Cruz's deteriorating mental state and risk of violence before he allegedly launched the attack that left 17 dead.
The new Secret Service review builds on a lengthy, prior examination issued by the agency in 2015, which found that more than half of suspects involved in 43 attacks targeting government facilities or federal officials between 2001 and 2013 suffered symptoms of mental illness, including paranoia, delusions and suicidal thoughts.
In the new report, authorities found that 64% of suspects suffered from symptoms of mental illness. And in 25% of the cases, attackers had been "hospitalized or prescribed psychiatric medications" prior to the assaults.
Among the most glaring of those cases involved Devin Kelley, whose stunning November attack on a Texas church left 26 dead and 20 others wounded.
In the years leading up to the assault, Kelley battered his young stepson, menaced his former wife, was accused of sexual assault, had a history of stalking former girlfriends and in 2012 escaped from a mental health facility.
According to a police report related to Kelley's escape, the gunman — then a member of the U.S. Air Force — was hospitalized after he was charged by military authorities with fracturing the skull of his 1-year-old stepson.
The Air Force later acknowledged that it failed to flag Kelley as banned from buying the weapons he used in the attack because of his record of domestic violence. Using the same weapons, Kelley killed himself following the November church shooting.
The Sutherland Springs’ First Baptist Church massacre was one of  two church shootings examined in the Secret Service report. Four school attacks also analyzed, along with 13 assaults involving places of business.
"These acts violated the safety of the places where we work, learn, shop, relax and otherwise conduct our day-to-day lives," the report stated. "The resulting loss of 147 lives and injury to nearly 700 others had a devastating impact on our nation as a whole."
One the incidents sent a shiver through the nation's capital last June when an Illinois man opened fire on Republican lawmakers with a modified assault rifle and handgun at northern Virginia baseball field.
Shortly after the attack, which left House Majority Whip Steve Scalise critically wounded and four others injured, the FBI described gunman James Hodgkinson as adrift and struggling to cope with an array of personal problems.
Plagued by financial difficulties, 66-year-old man who ultimately died in a shootout with police, had anger management problems and abruptly left a strained marriage in Belleville, Ill., more than month before the shooting to take up residence in a van on the outskirts of the nation's capital — along with his weapons.
He was prone to rage against the politics of President Trump and was carrying the names of six lawmakers in his pocket at the time he was fatally wounded.
"He was struggling in all kinds of different ways,'' FBI Assistant Director Tim Slater said a week after the attack.

Anti-NRA Firms Lose

Car Rental Firms Get Brutal Reality Check After Ditching NRA Discount

 Print
In the aftermath of the high school shooting in Parkland, Florida, the anti-gun left declared an all-out war against the Second Amendment and its proponents, namely the National Rifle Association.
Foremost in their assault on the jealously guarded constitutional right — aside from denigrating and dehumanizing gun owners — was an emotion-based pressure campaign on businesses that have partnered with the NRA to provide discounts for the organization’s membership.
That targeted campaign succeeded in compelling a handful of businesses to sever ties with the NRA and withdraw discounts offered to members.
But according to Front Page Mag, that move to appease the vociferous anti-gun left may very well have backfired on those businesses by angering a vast swath of the population. In their rush to avoid a threatened boycott by anti-gunners and obtain goodwill and potential customers from the political left, those businesses did significant damage to their brand’s favorability ratings and in all likelihood lost more customers than they gained.
Chief among businesses that shot themselves in the foot by casting aside law-abiding gun owners who had nothing to do with the school shooting, is the car rental firms of Enterprise Holdings Inc., parent company of Enterprise Rent-a-Car, Alamo Rent-a-Car and National Car Rentals.

According to a survey conducted by Morning Consultbetween Feb. 23-25, the three car rental firms saw their favorability rating either drop or remain unchanged while their unfavorability ratings more than doubled.
Flagship firm Enterprise Rent-a-Car saw their favorability rating fall from 61 to 50 percent, while their unfavorability surged from 12 to 25 percent.
Alamo and National didn’t see the same severe fall in favorability ratings, but their unfavorability ratings spiked, going from 10 to 24 percent and 11 to 25 percent, respectively.
Enterprise Holdings did not respond to a request for comment from Morning Consult on the substantial change in how the company is viewed by the general public. What could they possibly have to say after they publicly disrespected millions of potential and long-standing customers who happen to also own firearms and support the Second Amendment?

Do you think public businesses should stay out of divisive political issues?

To be sure, the three car rental firms under Enterprise Holdings all saw their net favorability among Democrat survey respondents increase — five points for Enterprise Rent-a-Car and 24 points for both Alamo and National — but those gains were more than overshadowed by the loss among Republicans.
Enterprise Rent-a-Car saw their net favorability among Republicans precipitously drop from +50 to -9, while Alamo slid from +34 to -18 and National went from +35 to -18 points.
Those are incredibly significant swings among roughly half of the nation’s population, and will no doubt effect the bottom line of those businesses.
“Brands are being held to a higher standard than they have been in the past,” stated Mimi Chakravorti, executive director of strategy at brand-consulting firm Landor of WPP PLC. “People are making decisions on the brands that they choose to affiliate with based on how brands behave.”

Yes, people on both sides of the issue are making decisions based on how these businesses have decided to operate. Catering to a small but vocal minority at the expense of millions of potential and loyal customers is an unsustainable practice, and one that is likely to get the notice of shareholders who will likely not be pleased with the short-sighted marketing move that killed their brand’s reputation.
Share this story on social media so everyone can see what happened when Enterprise Holdings decided to side with the anti-gun left against the Second Amendment, the NRA and their many loyal supporters.
What do you think of this precipitous slide in favorability ratings among the car rental firms that dissed the NRA and its members?
