Study: 300K Anchor Babies Born Every Year, Exceeding U.S. Births in 48 States

There are nearly 300,000 children of illegal aliens born in the United States every year, exceeding the total number of U.S. births in 48 states.

New wide-ranging analysis by the Center for Immigration Studies‘ Steven Camarotta reveals that there are roughly 297,000 births per year to illegal immigrants in the U.S.

The children of illegal aliens are commonly known as “anchor babies,” as they anchor their illegal alien and noncitizen parents in the U.S. and eventually are allowed to bring an unlimited number of foreign relatives to the country through the process known as “chain migration.”

The analysis notes that the nearly 300,000 anchor babies born every year in the U.S. exceed the total number of all U.S. births in all but two states: California and Texas. Likewise, the annual number of anchor babies born in the U.S. exceeds the number of births in 16 states plus the District of Colombia, combined.

There are more than 30 times as many anchor babies born every year than the total number of children born to native-born Americans in the state of Delaware. Similarly, there are more than 22 times as many anchor babies born every year in the country than there are children born to native-born Americans in the state of South Dakota.

The anchor baby population in the U.S. is almost twice the amount of residents living in the U.S. territory of Guam and more than double the population of the U.S. Virgin Islands, where a projected 107,000 residents live.

As Breitbart News reported, in the Los Angeles, California metro area, illegal alien births make up nearly 18 percent of all births in the region. In the Las Vegas, Nevada metro area, illegal alien births account for about 17 percent of all births.

California — a sanctuary state for illegal aliens — has the largest number of illegal alien births with about 65,000 illegal alien births every year. Texas has about 51,000 illegal alien births every year, while Florida has about 16,000 illegal alien births every year.

The Supreme Court, however, has never explicitly ruled that the children of illegal aliens must be granted automatic citizenship and many legal scholars dispute the idea. There are at least 4.5 million anchor babies in the U.S. — exceeding the annual roughly 4 millionAmerican babies born every year.

Many leading conservative scholars argue the Citizenship Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment does not provide mandatory birthright citizenship to the U.S.-born children of illegal aliens or noncitizens, as these children are not subject to U.S. jurisdiction as that language was understood when the Fourteenth Amendment was ratified.

Democrats – and even some Republicans – were scandalized on Tuesday when President Trump suggested an executive order could withdraw automatic citizenship from any baby born inside U.S. boundaries.

But talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh said the idea is simply based on the wording of the 14th Amendment itself, and all it took was someone with intestinal fortitude to suggest it.

“Man, this is great, what Trump is doing on birthright citizenship. Oh! This is exactly why Trump was elected, as my good friend Andy McCarthy said, ‘You’ve gotta have somebody that’s willing to break the furniture. You have to have somebody willing to turn things upside down if you’re actually going to get things done,’ and the left is beside itself today,” he said.

The issue is the wording – and the interpretation – of the amendment, which states, “All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof are citizens of the U.S. and of the state wherein they reside.”

It was adopted at a time when the American public was worried about the proper treatment of slaves and their descendants.

But it’s been interpreted to grant citizenship to any baby born in the country, and has been used hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions, of times to establish a newborn as an “anchor baby,” a child with American citizenship that can be argued by his or her parents to be a reason to let them, even if in the country illegally, stay.

But Trump simply points out there are words in the amendment that can be read a different way.

“The parts that birthright citizenship, uh, freaks have to delete are ‘naturalized’ and ‘subject to the jurisdiction thereof.’ You are not naturalized and you are not subject to the U.S. jurisdiction if you’re here illegally! You cannot be!” Limbaugh explained.

“You’re under some other country’s jurisdiction. If you’re here illegally, you cannot possibly be naturalized. Well, the birthright citizenship crowd – which wants to water down American culture and destroy Western civilization – conveniently leaves out ‘naturalized’ and ‘subject to the jurisdiction thereof.’ So your born-here child absolutely is not a citizen. This is what Trump is saying. Trump is finally pushing back against an assumption that has been made because it was the path of least resistance, if you will. But now it’s make-or-break time.”

AP snarked that it was another “hardline immigration play in the final days before the midterm elections.”

“He has sought to focus on fearmongering over immigration,” the AP charged.

And it accused the president of “seeking to energize his supporters and help Republicans keep control of Congress” by “stoking anxiety about a caravan of Central American migrants making its way to the U.S.-Mexico border.”

Limbaugh said, “Everybody is saying, ‘He can’t do that! That’s the 14th Amendment. You can’t universally – with an executive order – reverse the 14th Amendment.’ We want to discuss how maybe he can. He’ll again run into activist judges that will turn him down here, but the point is that you need somebody like Donald Trump…

“If the case can be made – and people believe that it can be – that the 14th Amendment was never intended to grant birthright citizenship to illegal immigrants who are under the jurisdiction of another country, then Trump can do it,” he said.

Not surprisingly, the establishment, on both sides, rejected the idea. Outgoing House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., said the change could not be made.

“We didn’t like it when Obama tried changing immigration laws via executive action, and obviously as conservatives, we believe in the Constitution,” he said.

Which drew a response from commentator Ann Coulter, who said, “Can we finally admit that ‘moderate Republicans’ are illiterate morons? Paul Ryan unfamiliar with a period in our nation’s history known as ‘The Civil War.'”

NBC, which has been openly at odds with the president since before he was even inaugurated, in its “fact check” quoted Peter Schuck of Yale saying the president couldn’t do what he wants.

That’s even though he’s argued in the past that Congress can set the rules for providing citizenship to U.S.-born children of parents who violated U.S. law to enter.

NBC explained that the citizenship provision “was intended to overturn the Supreme Court’s notorious Dred Scott decision of 1857 that held African-Americans were not citizens.”ind Out More >

Limbaugh said it’s just the next step in Trump’s commitments as a candidate “to build a wall, to get a handle on illegal immigration (and to stop it) because of its forever-changing consequences to this country.”

“The left wants this country overthrown from the days of its founding. To the left, America’s illegitimate, it’s immoral, it’s indecent because we were a slave nation and we discriminated and the original white privilege was the Founding Fathers,” he explained.

“Folks, as I said throughout the first year of Trump’s presidency: This is what pushing back looks like. It was never gonna be clean and it was never gonna be quiet. Pushing back against the liberal order of the day was always going to be noisy and it was going to be potentially violent and dangerous. After all, these are people who do not accept election results anymore, and you know what that means. You know what’s held this country together all of these years is the honoring of election results,” he explained.

He pointed out what already is known: “Top levels of the Obama DOJ were used to overthrow Trump, and to then run a silent coup to try to throw Donald Trump back out of office and reverse those election results. It’s unprecedented.

“But it is a seminal moment when a political party, as its official position, refuses to accept election results. That’s where we are, and that’s why we’re where we are. They refuse to accept it, for whatever reason. They hate Trump, they don’t feel good about it, they disagree, whatever. Doesn’t matter why. Just the fact that they refuse to accept the results is a horribly dangerous thing. Because what if it keeps up? What if the only time there is peace in America is when they win elections?”

The facts, he explained, are “an illegal alien here is not subject to U.S. jurisdiction. They’re under the jurisdiction of where they came from if they’re here illegally.”

Mexico Warns Texas on Not Issuing Birth Certificates to Illegals' Babies

The refusal of some Texas counties to issue birth certificates for children born to undocumented parents could threaten the state's relationship with Mexico, the Mexican government warns.

The notice comes in a brief filed in support of illegal immigrant parents who are suing Texas after being denied birth certificates for their U.S.-born children – even after providing ID cards, known as "matricula," issued by the Mexican Consulate, Fox News Latino reports.

The Texas Tribune reports some Texas county registrars won't accept the consulate-issued identification because it isn't considered reliable.

Some Texas counties were accepting the consulate ID cards until recently, when they were ordered to stop by the Texas state health services department, the Tribune reports.

"[It] not only jeopardizes their dignity and well-being, but could threaten the unique relationship between Mexico and Texas," the Mexican government said in a brief tied to a lawsuit filed against the state by Texas Civil Rights Project and Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid.
