The Great British Foreign Office Fantasy
According to the British Foreign Office, the Golan Heights are 'occupied'. They have been 'occupied' -- according to the logic of the UK Foreign Office -- since 1967, when Israel took the land from the invading forces of Syria. Ever since then, the Israelis have had the benefit of this strategic position and the Syrian regime has not. This fact, half a century on, still strikes the British Foreign Office as regrettable, and a wrong to be righted in due course.
Of course, since the onset of the Syrian civil war in 2011, the official position of the UK government has become ever-harder to justify. For example, if the Israeli government were at some point over the last seven years suddenly to have listened to the wisdom of the Foreign Office in London and handed over the strategic prize of the Golan, to whom should it have handed it? Should Israel be persuaded to hand over the territory to the Assad regime in Damascus? It is true that, throughout the course of the Syrian civil war, the one bit of territory to which the Syrian regime has laid claim and which it has not been able to barrel-bomb and otherwise immiserate the people there has been the Golan Heights. Only in the Golan has anybody in this 'Greater Syria' been able to live free from the constant threat of massacre and ethnic, religious or political cleansing. Other candidates for the territory naturally presented themselves across the same time-frame. The armies of ISIS came right up to the villages on the Syrian side along the borders of the Golan. There, they were able to bring that form of peace-through-barbarism which the world has come to know well. If ISIS had triumphed in the Syrian conflict rather than suffering repeated set-backs, would the UK Foreign Office have handed them the territory by way of reparational justice, or victor's prize? If not them, then perhaps the armies of Iran or Russia could have been the recipients of this feat of restorative diplomacy? Perhaps anyone who wished to lay claim to the Golan could have had it. So long as it was not the Israelis. The ongoing madness of the British Foreign Office's position has been highlighted in recent days thanks to a request which came from the British government, as well as the governments in other European capitals and in Washington. A request which also involved the Golan. Over the weekend, it emerged that the British government was among foreign governments to have made a dramatic request of the Israelis. As the war in Syria appears to be clarifying towards its end-point, a group of around 800 members of the 'White Helmets' and their families had reportedly become trapped near the southwestern border near the Golan Heights. The White Helmets only operate in 'rebel areas' and are despised by the Assad regime. With Syrian government forces moving in, a massacre may well have been about to occur. At the request of these foreign governments, the Israelis just carried out an extraordinary and unprecedented mission. In recent days, a reported 422 of the intended evacuees and their family members were saved by the Israelis. The other -- almost half -- of the intended number appears already to have been cut off by other forces. Nevertheless, those who did make it out were transferred by Israeli forces across the Golan and have now reportedly arrived safely in Jordan where their future status will be determined. Some may stay in Jordan; others will be moved abroad to Western countries.
The painful irony of this situation should be clear to all observers. If the Israelis did not lay claim to the Golan, there would have been no means to have got the White Helmets and their families out of Syria. Had Israel not made the Golan the peaceful and thriving area it is, it would simply be another part of Syria in which different sectarian groups were slaughtering other sectarian groups. As it is, the area is in the control of Britain's most reliable ally in the region. An ally which -- even as it is lectured by Britain -- agrees to requests from the British government that takes advantage of a strategic reality, one which the British government still refuses to accept. The Israeli government has given the British government what it wanted. Perhaps now would be a good time for the British government to reciprocate in some way? There could be no better means of doing so than by admitting that the British policy of the last half a century has been a Foreign Office fantasy and a wholesale dud of 'realist' regional thinking. The Foreign Office will have to back out of its self-imposed corner regarding the Golan at some point and accept the reality on the ground. How much better it would be if it did so now in a spirit of goodwill and reciprocity, rather than later on in a spirit of inevitable and grudging defeat. Nikki Haley Is Showing The World What Leadership Means
Nikki Haley Sets UN on Fire: If You Don’t Move, Our Military Will
Nikki Haley Sets UN on Fire: If You Don't Move, Our Military Will

One of the pleasantly surprising bright spots of President Donald Trump’s administration has been the appointment of Nikki Haley as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, who has taken a decidedly blunt and no-nonsense, call-it-like-we-see-it American attitude to the international organization.
Haley delivered yet another fiery speech to the U.N. Security Council on Monday, in which she placed the council on notice for its utter failure to maintain a temporary cease-fire agreement in Syria. She explicitly called out Russia and Syria, as well as Iran, for their roles in the continued fighting in violation of a recent Security Council resolution, according to TheBlaze.
Her eight-minute speech boiled down to one pointed message: If the U.N. doesn’t do anything to address the contempt with which the Security Council resolution was treated by Russia and Syria, the U.S. military will.
As Haley began, she noted all of the promises made by Russia in regard to enforcing the resolution which imposed a 30-day cease-fire in the area of Ghouta, a suburb of Damascus, and pointed out how fighting and bombing was still ongoing in spite of the agreement that Russia claimed to support.
She further noted that Russia and Syria had taken advantage of a “loophole” in the agreement that allowed for military action against terrorist organizations like al-Qaida and the Islamic State group by essentially declaring all opposition groups and civilians in Ghouta to be “terrorists” and open to attack.

“This is no cease-fire,” Haley asserted. “This is the Assad regime, Iran and Russia continuing to wage war against their political opponents.”
“If we can’t save families that haven’t seen the sun for weeks because they have been hiding underground to escape barrel bombs,” she continued, “then the Security Council is as impotent as its worst critics say it is.”
“When the international community consistently fails to act, there are times when states are compelled to take their own action,” Haley said, as she reminded the council of the U.S. missile strikes in April 2017 in response to Syrian chemical attacks on civilians.
“We warn any nation that is determined to impose its will through chemical attacks and inhuman suffering, most especially the outlaw Syrian regime, the United States remains prepared to act if we must,” she added. “It is not the path we prefer, but it is a path we have demonstrated we will take, and we are prepared to take again.”
You can watch Haley’s tough speech right here. Take note of the tone and occasional sharp side-eye toward the Russian and Syrian representatives as she calls them out for their duplicity in front of the spineless council.
UN Security Council Meeting On The Ceasefire In Syria
According to The Hill, Haley’s warning to the U.N. Security Council came amid reports heavy fighting and bombings in and around Ghouta — which were preventing the delivery of humanitarian aid and evacuation of sick and wounded civilians from the besieged city — as well as allegations of chemical attacks using chlorine gas in the area.
Do you approve of the job Nikki Haley has done as U.S. Ambassador to the U.N.?
It is worth noting that Haley was not entirely alone in her threat to the U.N. that the U.S. would take military action to enforce the cease-fire if necessary. Defense Secretary James Mattis informed the Syrian government that “it would be unwise for them to use weaponized gas” in response to the alleged chemical attacks, and added that Trump had “full political maneuver room” to take any sort of action he deemed necessary to bring peace to the war-torn region.
Haley was also backed up by none other than French President Emmanuel Macron, who stated recently at a news conference in India in response to the alleged chemical attacks in Ghouta that France was prepared to carry out airstrikes and other military action to halt the travesty and enforce the cease-fire.
Haley, on behalf of Trump, has made it crystal clear to the U.N. that the era of “strategic patience” and leading from behind are over and done with, and if the international community doesn’t see fit to do what must be done to obtain peace and stability, America has no problem rolling up her sleeves to do what is necessary.
Please share this on Facebook so everyone can see how Nikki Haley just put Russia, Syria, Iran and the rest of the U.N. Security Council on notice for their failure to uphold an agreed-upon temporary cease-fire in Syria.
What do you think of what Nikki Haley had to say?

Unstable Hezbollah Has Chemical Weapons
Hezbollah has chemical weapons, supplied by Iran and Syria, a former Syrian general warned.
By: The Tower
The general who formerly headed Syria’s chemical weapons program before defecting in 2013 said that Iran’s proxy Hezbollah has a store of chemical weapons and that Iran itself is testing missiles with chemical warheads, The Jerusalem Post reported Thursday.
General Sha’arq Zuhair al-Saqit, who defected from Syria when ordered to deploy chemical weapons against civilians and now heads the Center for the Detection and Monitoring of the Use of Chemical Weapons in Belgium, said that Hezbollah received most of the chemical weapons from Syria, when the regime of Bashar al-Assad was trying to conceal the weapons from international monitors following the gas attack in East Ghouta in August 2013.
The possession of “game-changing” weapons, including chemical weapons, by Hezbollah is one of the “red lines” Israel has declared that it would not allow.
He also said that Iran has been testing short and medium range missiles, with ranges of 5 to 25 kilometers (3 to 15 miles), with chemical warheads in Syria.
Al-Saqit also said that Iran is a major supplier of chemical weapons to Syria.
The general was in Paris where he warned that Syria was still using chemical weapons. In an interview, he said that “the Syrian army and the militias supporting it carry out daily attacks on the population, which uses chlorine gas. Only yesterday there was such an attack.”
The center he heads collects testimonies from people on the ground in Syria.
Al-Saqit agreed with a recent United Nations report that confirmed that North Korea was sending equipment for developing chemical weapons to Syria.
In an interview last year, al-Saqit said that Assad had not declared his entire stockpile of chemical weapons and had retained several hundred tons of the proscribed weapons.
