Hezbollah parading US made M113 APC’s in Syria (Youtube video capture)

Images published on the internet of a Hezbollah parade in Qusair, Syria show dozens of US M113 armored personnel carriers armed with anti-aircraft guns, raising questions of how the terror organization acquired these US made weapons.

Defense analyst Tobias Schneider’s theory is that the equipment was taken from American military aid sent to the Lebanese Armed Forces, who received over $200 million in US military aid in 2016, though the Lebanese military officially denied being the source.

An anonymous State Department official supported the Lebanese military’s denial in a statement to the Washington Post.

“The Lebanese military has publicly stated that the M113s depicted online were never part of their equipment roster,” the official said. “Our initial assessment concurs: The M113s allegedly in Hezbollah’s possession in Syria are unlikely to have come from the Lebanese military. We are working closely with our colleagues in the Pentagon and in the Intelligence Community on to resolve this issue.”

Another theory is that the US made APC’s made their way to Hezbollah via Israel. While the Christian Southern Lebanese Army (SLA) was allied with Israel. Israel supplied the SLA with more than 130 armored vehicles, including 20 M113’s. After Israel withdrew from Lebanon in 2000 under Prime Minister Ehud Barak, the SLA collapsed.

This is not the first, or the worst, case of American military hardware ending up in the wrong hands. Last year, videos surfaced of Iraqi Hezbollah using US made M1 Abrams battle tanks,M113 armored personnel carriers, Humvees, and Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles (MRAP).

The United States designated the Hezbollah Brigades as a terrorist organization in July 2009. Hezbollah is an ally of Syrian President Bashar  Assad, who America opposes, choosing to support anti-Assad rebels in Syria.

Austin Police to Get New $200K Armored SWAT Vehicle

Although they are rarely used, the Austin Police Department will soon welcome a brand new military-style SWAT vehicle that could cost more than a quarter million dollars.

The LENCO BearCat soon to be seen in the streets of Austin, Texas.

Writing for BenSwann.com, Julie Wilson reports:

The Austin City Council [recently] approved up to $270K for the purchase of a LENCO BearCat armored vehicle.

The purchase is meant to replace one of two armored military-style vehicles already owned by the Austin Police Department (APD).

Although it sounded like the existing vehicles are rarely utilized, the mayor said they’re “very old,” and need to be replaced.

According to Mayor Lee Leffingwell, the new vehicle could potentially be used in hostage situations or situations “where somebody might be cornered.”

While its possible uses are vaguely defined at best, many people worry that military-style SWAT vehicles like the BearCat would be used in another Boston-style martial law lockdown.

It also makes one wonder… what’s next for local police forces? M1 Abrams tanks?

A war of words has broken out over police force in California getting a new armored vehicle built more for a state of war than patrolling in the Golden State.

The Salinas Police Department recently issued a news release proudly announcing the arrival of the armored truck built to survive minefield explosions, which it got compliments of federal taxpayers as part of a program to convert military equipment to law-enforcement use.

Critics took to the police department’s Facebook page to ask exactly why a city of 150,000 on the northern California coast really needs a vehicle designed for battlefield use. It’s more likely to be used against its own citizens, they said..

“That vehicle is made for war. Do not use my safety to justify that vehicle,” one wrote. “The Salinas Police Department is just a bunch of cowards that want to use that vehicle as intimidation and to terrorize the citizens of this city.”

‘To stop gang members?” another wrote. “Hmmm gang members don’t riot in mass numbers. It’s right in front of our faces and we don’t see it. Why would the ARMY!!! give something like that for FREE!!! Let’s think for once people.”

Police Chief Kelly McMillin said he doesn’t understand the problem.

“I knew this was going to come up,” he said in an interview with the Salinas Californian. “It’s the militarization-of-the-police issue. People are like, ‘Why do you need this?’”

He said it’s not what the department has, it’s what it does that’s the point.

“An allegation that we are militarizing has to be that we were patrolling the streets in platoons in greater numbers, that we were setting up checkpoints and searching people in and out of neighborhoods,” he told the interviewer.

The Salinas PD isn’t doing any of that, he said.

Maybe not. And maybe it never will under Kelly McMillin. But that’s not the point, and it’s hard to believe McMillin and the reporter from the Salinas Californian don’t know that.

This country only two months ago saw rangers for the National Park Service – National Park rangers, for God’s sake – turn into a bunch of storm troopers keeping World War II vets out of their own monument, and visitors from “recreating” at Yosemite.

And Chief McMillin doesn’t understand why citizens don’t trust the government with ever-greater weaponry in the hands of a “civilian” police force?

Just ask the commenters on the Salinas Californian article.

“It could be used to deliver a whole bunch of shut the hell up to the citizens of this fair town,” one wrote.

Another agreed.

“And Obama said we don’t need military weapons in hands of citizens”
