Editor’s note: WND is chronicling the response by U.S. businesses to the biggest rewrite of the federal tax code since the 1980s Reagan administration and a tax cut of as much as $3.2 trillion in the form of this BIG LIST OF TAX-CUT PAYOFFS. It will be regularly updated as more companies respond.
WASHINGTON – Before the ink was even dry on President Trump’s signature on the Republican tax-cut bill, corporate America was not only toasting it, praising it and celebrating it, but handing out money to employees like Santa Claus.
It started with AT&T expanding its bonus program to an additional 200,000 staffers getting $1,000 apiece.
Next came Boeing announcing a gift of $300 million in investment in its employee-related charitable program “to support our heroes, our homes and our future.”
Wells Fargo and Fifth Third Bancorp announced they would raise their minimum wage to $15 in the New Year, with Fifth Third kicking in an additional bonus of $1,000 to 13,000 employees.

Comcast NBC Universal anted up $1,000 bonuses to more than 100,000 non-executive employees, announcing the move was not only tied, like all the others, to the tax cut but to the Federal Communications Commission’s elimination of government regulation of the Internet. Comcast NBC Universal Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Brian L. Roberts added the company plans to spend more than $50 billion in the next five years on infrastructure investments that he expects will create “thousands of new direct and indirect jobs.”
In fact, before the bill was even passed, Kroger Chief Executive Officer W. Rodney McMullen offered that the legislation would influence his company “to continue to invest in our business, which will grow jobs.”
You might remember, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called the bill “Armageddon.”
Here’s the growing BIG LIST of companies reacting to the tax cuts with bonuses, more pay and expansion leading directly to new jobs:
  • U.S. Bank of America employees making up to $150,000 per year in total compensation – about 145,000 teammates – will receive a one-time bonus of $1,000 by year-end.
  • PNC Financial Services will give $1,000 bonus to about 47,500 workers.
  • New Braunfels-based Rush Enterprises of Texas is giving each of its 6,600 employees a $1,000 bonus – a total of $6.6 million. Chief Financial Officer Steven Keller said: “You’ve got a choice – we could’ve kept it and stuffed it in the company bank account or coffers, or we can share it with the people.”
  • Associated Bank in Wisconsin boosted its minimum hourly wage to $15 and paying workers a $500 bonus.
  • Idaho health-care and home-products company Melaleuca Inc. is providing its 2,000 employees $100 bonuses for every year they worked for the company. The company has 147 employees who have worked for the company for 20 years or more.
  • In Hawaii, Royal Hawaiian Heritage Jewelry plans to open up three more shops – in Honolulu, in Kauai and Maui in addition to its existing three shops.
  • Washington Federal in Seattle will increase wages for most of its workers by 5 percent and is adding 25 people to its information-technology staff.
  • Aquesta Financial Holdings in Cornelius, N.C., will raise hourly pay to $15 and will be giving $1,000 bonuses to all of it workers.
  • Canary LLC announced it will hire new employees and purchase more equipment.
  • AT&T expanding its bonus program to an additional 200,000 staffers getting $1,000 apiece.
  • Boeing gift of $300 million in investment in its employee-related charitable program “to support our heroes, our homes and our future.”
  • Wells Fargo raises minimum wage to $15.
  • Fifth Third raises minimum wage to $15 and offering bonuses of $1,000 to 13,000 employees.
  • Comcast NBC Universal anted up $1,000 bonuses to more than 100,000 non-executive employees.

Who Has Twisted McCain's Pants In A Circle? Or Has He Just Lost It?

McCain Threatens to Shut Down Trump’s Deputy Secretary of Defense Nomination

 Print
Though President Donald Trump nominated top Boeing executive Patrick Shanahan to be the deputy secretary of defense in March, the prospective number two man at the Pentagon has only just sat down for Senate confirmation hearings. Now, he is at risk of being further delayed by one particular Republican senator.
Arizona Sen. John McCain, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee which is holding the hearing, threatened to withhold Shanahan’s name from being voted on due to finding the nominee’s answers regarding Ukraine and his ties to Boeing “not satisfactory,” The Washington Post reported.
“In your questions that were submitted to you, one of the questions was providing the Ukrainians with legal, lethal defense weaponry with which to defend themselves,” McCain said. “Inexplicably, you responded by saying you have to look at the issue. It’s not satisfactory, Mr. Shanahan.”

Shanahan made it clear that he did support arming the Ukrainians, but due to his current inability to see all classified information regarding such matters, he needed to wait until he was fully briefed before taking a final position. According to McCain, he found this explanation “very disappointing” and accused Shanahan of dodging questions.
“Not a good beginning. Not a good beginning. Do not do that again, Mr. Shanahan, or I will not take your name up for a vote before this committee,” McCain threatened, according to The Hill.
Though Shanahan seemed to be respected by most of the other members of the committee, McCain continued to chastise and grill him, both in regard to the Russia/Ukraine issue as well as his time as an executive at Boeing.
But that wasn’t good enough for McCain, who said, “Your job is one of the most important and key elements (for DoD) and frankly I’m not overjoyed that you came from one of the five (big defense) corporations, 90 percent of the spending of the taxpayer dollars comes out of five different corporations. That’s not what our founding fathers had in mind.”
Defense News noted that the tough line of questioning and threat to hold up the nomination process was particularly unexpected given McCain’s prior statements about Shanahan in April, when he cited the nominee’s “excellent reputation” as a reason for moving forward with the confirmation process.
We expect Democrats to stall the process and throw a wrench into the Trump administration’s plans at every opportunity, but such behavior is not expected from Republicans, at least not from those who are even tangentially on board with the overall mission of strengthening the military and making America great again.

Sen. McCain appears to have completely missed that train, and his behavior at the confirmation hearing will only have more of the Republican base questioning the senator’s loyalty to country and party and whether he should continue to serve as a member of Congress.
Please share this on Facebook and Twitter to let everyone know Sen. McCain borrowed a page from the Democrats’ handbook and is threatening to block a Trump nominee.
What do you think of Sen. McCain's opposition to Trump's nominee as deputy secretary of defense?

Trump Gets Progress On Reducing The Cost Of Another Program

Boeing Head Said He and Trump “Made Progress” in Striking Lower-Cost Air Force One Deal

When President-elect Donald Trump criticized Boeing on Twitter early last month and called for the government to cancel its contract with the airplane manufacturer over excessive costs of Air Force One, liberals went berserk, slamming him for alleged incompetence.
“Yet again, Donald Trump has shown us that he doesn’t have even a thin veneer of competence or desire to find the facts,” wrote Justin Acuff (Isaacs), the managing editor at the radical leftist blog Addicting Info. “We’re doomed.”
You sure about that?

Fast forward to Jan. 17, when Trump met with Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg for what turned out to be an “excellent conversation,” as Muilenburg later told reporters.

Boeing is building a brand new 747 Air Force One for future presidents, but costs are out of control, more than $4 billion. Cancel order!

“We made some great progress on simplifying requirements for Air Force One, streamlining the process, streamlining certification by using commercial practices,” he said after the meeting, according to Reuters. “That’s going to lead to substantial cost reductions.”

Acuff had completely misjudged Trump, though he was not alone. Numerous liberals tried to paint Trump’s criticism of Boeing last month as the actions of an incompetent boob, but apparently, they themselves were the real boobs.
Muilenburg added that he and Trump were also “able to talk about options for the country and capabilities that will, again, provide the best capability for our war fighters most affordably.”
“I think Mr. Trump is doing a great job of engaging business,” he said. “If you want manufacturing jobs, aerospace is the place to invest. We’re proud to take on that mission and I think Mr Trump’s engagement with industry is going to help us grow manufacturing jobs in this country.”
All this was possible because of the president-elect’s insistence on taking Boeing to task for its cost overruns.

“I don’t need a $4.2 billion airplane to fly around in,” Trump said on Fox News earlier this month.
To liberals, this made him incompetent. To the rest of us, it made him a solid businessman and one potentially awesome incoming president.
Please share this story on Facebook and Twitter and let us know what you think about the stunning news from Boeing.
Are you surprised the Boeing CEO is praising Trump now?

Trump Close To Another Victory

Lockheed CEO: We are 'close to a deal' to bring F-35 cost down 'significantly'

Trump Tweet Sends Lockheed CEO On A Twirl

Lockheed Martin CEO Marillyn Hewson said Friday that the company is "close to a deal" that will bring the cost of the F-35 down "significantly" following a meeting with President-elect Trump in New York.

Hewson told reporters after the 45-minute meeting that she shares the incoming president's view that troops need to get the best technology as possible for the lowest price. She said she also gave him some ideas for other ways to bring down the price of the joint strike fighter.
"I'm glad I had the opportunity to tell him that we are close to a deal that will bring the cost down significantly," Hewson said. "It's going to bring a lot of jobs to the United States. In fact, we're going to increase our jobs in Fort Worth by 1,800 jobs."
Navy Secretary Ray Mabus said this week that the promise to drive down costs is "the easiest promise anyone has ever made," since the price per plane is already going down and will continue to go down more as the program moves into production because of lessons learned during building and a more efficient production line.

The Pentagon announced a unilateral $6.1 billion contract for the ninth batch of planes late last year after the government was unable to agree with Lockheed Martin on a deal for both lot nine and 10. The ninth lot of 57 low-rate initial production aircraft will be procured for 3.7 percent less than the previous lot, Defense News reported.

Joe DellaVedova, a spokesman for the F-35 Joint Program Office, said negotiations are ongoing for the tenth lot.
"The F-35 Joint Program Office remains focused on getting the best deal for the warfighters and taxpayers," he said.
Friday marked the second meeting between Hewson and Trump. Following the first meeting in December, Hewson gave Trump her "personal commitment" to "aggressively" drive down costs.
Despite that promise, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., released a letter from the Pentagon this week announcing an additional seven-month delay that will cost taxpayers at least $500 million more.

The F-35 joint strike fighter has been a key focus on Trump since the election. He has repeatedly tweeted about its "out-of-control" costs, causing Lockheed Martin stock prices to slide. Most recently, he promised "big things" for the aircraft at his press conference on Wednesday.

While it is behind schedule and over budget, service leaders have defended the program, arguing that it is now on the right track as production prepares to ramp up. They've also said that the capabilities on the jet, including its stealthy features, are needed by the military to replace aging aircraft.
Trump also announced on Twitter that he has asked Boeing to price out an F/A-18 Super Hornet that is "comparable" to the F-35, but Air Force Secretary Deborah Lee James said comparing the two jets "is a little bit apples and oranges."
Retired Gen. James Mattis, who Trump has chosen to lead the Pentagon, told lawmakers at his confirmation hearing Thursday that Trump understands how "critical" the program is to both the U.S. military and its international partners who are also buying the aircraft despite his criticism of the cost. Instead, the former four-star said Trump's tweets simply show his commitment to use taxpayer dollars most effectively.
"He has in no way shown a lack of support for the program, he just wants the most bang for his buck," Mattis said.
