Is The Jefferson Memorial Next To Be Destroyed?

Changes Coming To Jefferson Memorial To Reflect Slave Connections

The Civil War monuments were just the beginning...

The Jefferson Memorial will soon be updated to tell some of the story surrounding Founding Father Thomas Jefferson’s status as a slaveholder.
“In the coming weeks and months, the physical symbols of American history and democracy will be scrutinized and challenged,” Catherine Townsend, president of the Trust for the National Mall, wrote Thursday in a letter to supporters that came on the heels of a wrenching national debate over statues to historical figures who owned slaves or supported the Confederacy.
“When that happens, we will work with our partners to ensure the National Mall continues to be a vibrant and relevant place where Americans can learn about our history and imagine our future, together,” she wrote.

“Recent events only reinforce the need for an open, inclusive and safe space for Americans to exercise their First Amendment rights and to gather in pursuit of our shared ideals — life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all,” she added.
“I hope you will join us as we steward private support to implement modern and resilient solutions that can transform this dynamic space and preserve the historic legacy of the National Mall.”
Even before the events in Charlottesville sparked new debate over statues, the Trust had been looking to refurbish the 20-year-old National Park Service exhibit at Jefferson’s memorial.
“We can reflect the momentous contributions of someone like Thomas Jefferson, but also consider carefully the complexity of who he was. And that’s not reflected right now in the exhibits,” an official with the trust told the Washington Examiner.
The official noted that as long as public monuments need private dollars, they will have to incorporate the viewpoints of those who fund the renovations.
“The Park Service manages the site, and we’ll always be clear on that — but if we are a partner in help bringing private funding to make sure that they’re able to update that exhibit, that’s where we want to be thoughtful vis a vis what has happened, or, sort of, come to an inflection point in the last week,” the official said.

Thomas Jefferson memorial? He owned slaves - Tear it down because the reminder of slavery hurts my heart:? Don't be ridiculous people! pic.twitter.com/8uRrD9HmgO

The dichotomy between the public words of the author of the Declaration of Independence and his status as a man whose Monticello plantation relied on slavery has long been explored by historians.
Some writers have claimed that Jefferson fathered multiple children by longtime slave Sally Hemings, who he refused to free even after his death.
Jefferson, whose notebooks explored the vast differences he saw between his slaves and the white society around him, grappled with the morality of slavery, and was one of the first political leaders to restrict the slave trade, first as governor of Virginia and later as president.

Tax Scofflaw Demands America No Longer Spend Money On Jefferson Memorial

ALERT: Al Sharpton Issues Nasty Demand to Americans

There is a fierce debate over whether or not Confederate statues should be removed, or at the very least, moved. Veteran race-baiter, Al Sharpton, recently voiced his opinion on what should be done with our nation’s Civil War monuments.
According to Independent Journal Reviewnot only does Sharpton think that Confederate statues need to to be removed, but he also believes that federal funding to the legendary Jefferson Memorial needs to stop as well. His reasoning is that he doesn’t think tax dollars should go towards supporting a statue of a slave owner. Sharpton’s stance is quite ironic, since he was recently under fire for tax evasion.
Sharpton made his announcement not long after President Trump asked during a press conference “Are we going to take down statues to George Washington? How about Thomas Jefferson?”
At the time of his comment, President Trump seemed to be asking (sarcastically) if we should erase all of history. The point was to show how insane the Democrat’s attempt to destroy history seemed.
Instead of seeing the point that the president was trying to make, Liberals saw it as a call to arms.  Sharpton explained his point of view further during an interview with Charlie Rose on PBS.
“People need to understand that people were enslaved,” Sharpton stated. It is almost as if he believes people deny slavery existed here, or deny that it continues to exist right now in some parts of the world.
As you would imagine, many people are frustrated with Sharpton’s point of view. What is most irritating to some people is his bold statement that tax dollars are used to keep the Jefferson Memorial in good shape, when he’s been accused of not paying taxes in the past.
The New York Times reported that he has a total of $4.5 million in unpaid taxes between federal and state balances owed. In fact, his for-profit group, the National Action Network, has been in business for years, and there are signs that not a single dollar of theirs went towards paying federal payroll taxes.
Despite not paying his taxes, Sharpton still traveled first class, received an impressive salary, and refused to pay travel agencies, hotels, and landlords. It seems odd that someone who never can be bothered to pay for things is worried about where our tax dollars are going.
Al Sharpton spoke out about Confederate statues and taxpayer money. Does he have any credibility?

Does Al Sharpton have any credibility?

After Al Sharpton’s statement, the internet bit back. One user tweeted, “Al Sharpton doesn’t pay his taxes but is concerned about the use of taxpayer dollars for public monuments. None of those dollars are his!”

Another user pointed out that, “Al Sharpton should pay his back taxes before he preaches on public funds.” Quite a valid point, yet the irony of the situation seems to escape Al Sharpton.
The lesson here is simple. You cannot erase history just because it makes you uncomfortable. Furthermore, if you are going to avoid paying taxes, you should not preach about how upset you are over where the tax dollars are going. What we see here is Liberal hypocrisy as it’s absolute finest.

First There Was The Confederate Battle Flag. What's Next? US Flag, Jefferson Memorial, Washington Memorial Or Other Not PC Buildings Or Artifacts?

Louis Farrakhan: ‘We Need to Put the American Flag Down’

Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan expressed contempt for the American flag Wednesday, telling hundreds gathered in a D.C. church that it is a symbol of racism and needs to be brought down.
The controversial figure spoke at the Metropolitan AME Church, just one week after a white male shot and killed nine individuals at a historically black church in Charleston, South Carolina.

“White folks march with you because they don’t want you upset in the city,” Farrakhan said during his speech, a portion which was published online by WMAL. “They don’t give a damn about them nine. When they arrested that skunk …. they took him to the Burger King.”
Farrakhan: ”We need to put the American flag down…”

“Man just killed nine human beings, and you know what they were saying? ‘You did a good job. Kill all them n******!’” he added.
Farrakhan then took aim at the American flag.
“I don’t know what the hell the fight is about over the Confederate flag! We need to put the American flag down because we’ve caught as much hell under that as the Confederate flag!” he said.
“Who are we fighting today? It’s the people that carry the American flag,” Farrakhan continued. “What flag do the police have? What flag flies over the non-Justice Department? What flag flies over the White House?”
The Nation of Islam leader said that taking the Confederate flag is “easy,” but not enough.
On Tuesday, conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh made a prediction that the American flag would “come under assault” after the Confederate flag. At the time he said, “Do not doubt me.”
