A young American couple who believed evil was a make-believe concept, quit
their jobs last year to go on their trip of a lifetime: a bike ride across the Middle
 East.

Jay Austin, a vegan, worked for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban
Development. His girlfriend, Lauren Geoghegan, a vegetarian, worked at
Georgetown University. Both were only 29. (The Daily Wire)

Austin had a personal blog on which he wrote in June 2017, “I’ve grown tired

of spending the best hours of my day in front of a glowing rectangle, of coloring

the best years of my life in swaths of grey and beige. I’ve missed too many

sunsets while my back was turned. Too many thunderstorms went unwatched,

too many gentle breezes unnoticed.”

Their trip, which lasted 369 days, took them from the southernmost tip of Africa

in Capetown, South Africa, to Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania,

Egypt, Morocco, Spain, France, Italy, Croatia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Turkey,

Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and finally Tajikistan, where they were murdered

along with two other cyclists, one from Switzerland and the other from the

Netherlands.

...

Then, on July 29, 2018, as they were riding their bikes with two other

cyclists in Tajikistan, five men exited their car and stabbed all the bicyclists

to death.

CBS News added, “ISIS followed an initial claim of responsibility in print with

a video showing the five purported attackers pledging allegiance to ISIS

leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.”

Note: biking near ISIS-held terrority is never a good idea.

When Will Democrats Realize They Are On The Wrong Path?

It’s not their fault

The Democratic Party wants you to know they’re not responsible for the terrorist attack on congressional Republicans practicing for a charity baseball game Wednesday morning. If James Hodgkinson’s social media posts read like a Reader’s Digest edition of Democratic talking points, that’s anecdotal. If he proudly served Senator Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign, that’s just a coincidence. If he took the Left’s messages of hate, rage and even treason too far, that’s on him, not them. They were just expressing their opinions, not suggesting anyone actually act on them. Blaming Hodgkinson’s attack on the people he worshiped like they were Jim Jones and he was the first guy to chug the Kool-Aid is unfair. Come to think of it, they’re the real victims here.
They booed God and told him “white Christian” is code for “cruel bigot.”
They defended anti-life monsters like Planned Parenthood and claimed Republican efforts to rein in federal funding of their baby parts racket represented a “war on women.”
They showed him his fellow liberals launching coordinated attacks on gatherings of peaceful conservatives from Berkeley to Brooklyn and told him how the “Antifa” thugs were the good guys.
They called Republicans “Nazis” and ran “news” stories about how the GOP was planning to murder people by the millions through rollbacks of Obamacare and defunding of abortion factories.
They beheaded President Trump in effigy and called it “comedy.” When the image of a ginger skeletor holding his father’s severed head frightened the president’s 11 year old son, they attacked him, too.
They substituted Trump for Julius Caesar in a hugely-publicized performance of Shakespeare in the Park and called the mock assassination “a masterpiece.”
They trotted out their best and brightest — spoiled actors, dimwitted comediennes, shrieking hate group leaders, media flacks and pampered socialites — to beat the drum of hatred and then laughed off their calls for violence as “parody.”
They didn’t force Hodgkinson to plan and execute a targeted assassination of congressional Republicans, they just spent seven months filling his head with frequently violent, always dehumanizing rhetoric about them.
So don’t blame the Democrats for Hodgkinson’s assassination attempt. They fed intellectually deficient, emotionally unstable people a steady diet of misinformation and outright lies, but they didn’t do any of the shooting themselves. They didn’t start the fire, they just hosed the joint down in gasoline and left a box of matches next to the arsonist.

Has The Country Has Turned Nasty, Hateful And Xenophobic? Is That The Reason For Trump's Success

Trump_ugly.jpg
It’s understandable that the media give wall-to-wall coverage to Donald Trump: he gives them great ratings. But at this point, it is not Trump himself we should be focusing on.
By now, we’ve gotten a good look at what Trump is up to, and the spirit he is serving. When even Republicans are using the word “fascist” to describe Trump’s message, the picture has surely become clear enough.
This newly more widespread awareness creates a kind of "teachable moment" to get to a deeper truth about our times. For the only reason that Trump’s fascistic posture is important is that it has the support of enough of the Republican base to make him the runaway Republican front-runner.
If we’re seeing ugly things we’ve never seen before in a presidential election, it’s because something ugly has arisen in the American electorate with a power we’ve never seen.
It has not been the American way to value the hater, the arrogant, the bully, the boaster, the reckless. But at this point in history, as Donald Trump has demonstrated, it is possible to become politically prominent – even dominant – by being all those things. And that’s because such a posture now expresses the passions of so large a segment of the base of one of
America’s two major parties.
We know that it comes naturally to Trump to act the bully. After all, he’s the guy who set up a
whole TV program to create the recurrent climactic moment of his dashing the hopes of one of
his fellow human beings with the line, “You’re fired!” Most people feel a revulsion about having
to fire people, but Trump went out of his way to be able to play that role.
But even if a brutal role is appealing to Trump, what he has ridden to power is his ability to read
and exploit the dark passions of others.
Trump’s campaign took off from the outset with his attack on Mexican immigrants—whom he
characterized as criminal monsters, “rapists.”  If there’s any evidence that Trump himself cares
about the immigration issue – he who has hired undocumented workers in his construction
projects – I am unaware of it. But he has shown himself adept at harnessing the power of the
hatreds and fears of millions of other people.
It is not Trump himself that is the main story here. It is the darkness, rising for years in the
Republican electorate, he is succeeding by mirroring.
The impulse he is harnessing is clearly deeper than any single issue. For Trump’s rise has been
accomplished by expressing hostility not only to Mexican immigrants, but also toward blacks
(hence the enthusiasm for Trump from white supremacists), and now of course especially
 toward Muslims.
What this pattern shows is a general inclination to hate the other. An impulse of hostility toward
those who are different from “Us” is one of the most fundamental forms of human brokenness.
It manifests in most of history’s nightmares (including, of course, the barbarism of ISIS).
In an earlier essay, I wrote: “In every society, both constructive and destructive forces are
always at work. But the balance of power between those forces is not constant.”
And that connects with what is most important – most newsworthy – in the Trump phenomenon.
Something in America has changed for the worse.
Racism and xenophobia are nothing new in American politics, of course. But what IS new is
that the “hate the other” impulse has now become more powerful than we’ve seen before.
Twenty years ago, or thirty, no one could have ridden a starkly dark message like Trump’s,
delivered in a manner that transgresses our long-established norms for political leadership, to
the front-runner position he now occupies.
So now that so many people can perceive the face of fascism that is arising powerfully out of
the Republican base, the important questions that need to be asked in order to expand this
 newly awakened awareness, are:
1)    How did so many people in the Republican base get led deeper into this dark space?
(Here, we can look at the pernicious influences -- of people like Rush Limbaugh, Newt
Gingrich, Karl Rove, Fox News and elected Republican leaders generally – that have fed
 people’s hatreds and fears.) And
2)    What, if anything, can be done to diminish these dark passions among those who are
embracing Donald Trump as their champion?

Tunisia Has No Problem Closing Mosques, Why Don't We?

Tunisia plans to close 80 mosques for inciting violence after hotel jihad attack

Tunisia’s government can recognize that preaching in mosques can incite violence. The government of the United States cannot. To do so would be “Islamophobic.”
“Tunisia government says to close 80 mosques for inciting violence, after hotel attack,” Reuters, June 26, 2015:
TUNIS (Reuters) – Tunisia plans within a week to close down 80 mosques that remain outside state control for inciting violence, as a countermeasure after the hotel attack that killed 39 people, Prime Minister Habib Essid said on Friday.
The announcement came after a gunman opened fire on a tourist resort hotel in Sousse city, south of the capital. Since its 2011 uprising to oust Zine El-Abidine Ben Ali, Tunisia has struggled to manage ultraconservative Islamist movements.

When Hate Is Mainstreamed By The UN, Jimmy Carter. Bishop Tutu And The New York Times, It Is No Wonder Israel Is Losing The Propaganda War.

By supporting Hamas, President Jimmy Carter and Bishop Desmond Tutu are bringing about the death of more Palestinian civilians and Israeli soldiers alike, Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz said.

"It's not only the UN, it's President Jimmy Carter who has blood on his hands," Dershowitz told JD Hayworth on "America's Forum" on Newsmax TV Tuesday.

"He's the one who advised [the late Palestinian Liberation Organization leader Yasser] Arafat not to accept the two-state solution that would have resulted in a Palestinian state," he explained. "It's Bishop Tutu who supports Hamas, which has a charter calling for the murder of every single Jew."

Story continues below video.

Their actions, he said, have contributed to "mainstreaming" antisemitism and helping Hamas win the PR battle.

"The New York Times, which in 53 op-eds, almost none of them over the last several years has presented any kind of a balanced view on Israel," Dershowitz explained.

"That's what's causing the PR war to be lost," he said.

"Hamas wins the war of PR and then they're encouraged to do it again and again and again," he contends.

"Jimmy Carter and Bishop Tutu are encouraging Hamas to cause the deaths of more and more Palestinian civilians and Israeli soldiers and civilians," the veteran attorney said. "Shame on them."

David Rubin, former mayor of Shiloh, Israel told Newsmax that Israel loses "the PR battle because we're apologetic all the time and we have nothing to be apologetic about."

"I'm not apologetic when I talk about Mahmoud Abbas, the head of the Palestinian Authority, who funds terrorists," Rubin explained.

"He doesn't just fund terrorists from his own Fatah terrorist organization," he said. "He also funds terrorists from Hamas and ISIS and Hezbollah — they all get salaries from Mahmoud Abbas if they committed an attack against Israeli civilians."

"My 3-year-old son and I were wounded by terrorists from Abbas's own Fatah terrorist organization," Rubin said. "So I'm not apologetic about it."

"I don't think we have anything to be apologetic about, I don't think we need to be apologetic when the UN allows missiles to be stationed in their facilities in Gaza so that Hamas can shoot them at Israeli civilians," he explained.

"The UN is complicit in this and we need to be saying that the UN is an accomplice in the attacks on Israeli civilians, not just defending ourselves but stating the obvious," he said.

"How did they not know that there are missiles in those facilities?"

Dershowitz emphasized the point that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made in his speech before the United Nations General Assembly Monday when he said Iran poses a greater threat than the Islamic State (ISIS).

"He wanted to make the world aware of the fact that ISIS is perhaps a one or two year problem, but a nuclear armed Iran is a century-long problem and any government official who allows Iran to develop nuclear weapons will be the Chamberlain of the 21st century," Dershowitz said.

"Keep your eye on the prize, and the prize is to make sure that Iran does not develop nuclear weapons, and Israel will defend itself against all threats external or from Hamas," he added.
