Iron Dome Goes To Sea

Israeli Navy Warships Refitted With Double Iron Dome to Protect Gas Rigs From Hezbollah

“For He will give His angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.” Psalms 91:11 (The Israel Bible™)
Threats posed to Israel’s offshore gas rigs by the Lebanese terror group Hezbollah’s missile arsenal have prompted the Israeli Navy to add extra missile defense systems to its warships.
Four Israeli Navy Sa’ar 6 missile ships, which are currently being manufactured in Germany, will now be equipped with dual Iron Dome missile defense systems—as opposed to featuring a singular Iron Dome battery, the original plan for each ship.
A senior Israeli naval officer explained the upgrade to the ships’ defense systems stems from the threat posed by Hezbollah’s large weapons cache of medium- and long-range missiles, including Iranian Fajr-5 missiles, M-600 rockets, Zelzal-2 missiles, short-range M75 rockets and Katyushas, Defense News reported.
A senior Israeli Air Force officer stated the primary threat from Hezbollah’s weapons arsenal relates to the terror group’s acquisition of missiles with larger warheads capable of reaching further distances.
Israel estimates that Hezbollah’s weapons stockpile consists of more than 100,000 missiles—17 times the amount it possessed a decade ago, when the United Nations adopted Security Council Resolution 1701 to end the Second Lebanon War.

Are The Democrats Really Trying To Run Themselves Out Of Business Or To Marginalize Themselves Further Beyond Where They Already Are?

What should a political party that has just lost its white working-class, blue-collar base to a "make America great again" nationalist do to try to regain these voters? Why not appoint as the new head of the party a radical left-wing ideologue who has a long history of supporting an anti-American, anti-white, anti-Semitic Nation of Islam racist? Such an appointment will surely bring back rust-belt voters who have lost their jobs to globalization and free trade! Is this really the thinking of those Democratic leaders who are pushing for Keith Ellison to head the Democratic National Committee?
Keith Ellison is, by all accounts, a decent guy, who is well liked by his congressional colleagues. But it is hard to imagine a worse candidate to take over the DNC at this time. Ellison represents the extreme left wing of the Democratic Party, just when the party -- if it is to win again -- must move to the center in order to bring back the voters it lost to Trump. The Democrats didn't lose because their candidates weren't left enough. They won the votes of liberals. The radical voters they lost to Jill Stein were small in number and are not likely to be influenced by the appointment of Ellison. The centrist voters they lost to Trump will only be further alienated by the appointment of a left-wing ideologue, who seems to care more about global issues than jobs in Indiana, Wisconsin and Michigan. Ellison's selection certainly wouldn't help among Jewish voters in Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania or pro-Israel Christian voters around the country.
Ellison's sordid past associations with Louis Farrakhan -- the long time leader of the Nation of Islam -- will hurt him in Middle America, which has little appetite for Farrakhan's anti-American ravings. Recently, Farrakhan made headlines for visiting Iran on the 35th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution where he berated the United States, while refusing to criticize Iran's human rights violations. Farrakhan also appeared as a special guest speaker of the Iranian president at a rally, which featured the unveiling of a float reenacting Iran's detention of 10 U.S. Navy sailors in the Persian Gulf.
In addition to embracing American enemies abroad, Farrakhan has exhibited a penchant for lacing his sermons with anti-Semitic hate speech. Around the time that Ellison was working with the Nation of Islam, for example, Farrakhan was delivering speeches attacking "the synagogue as Satan." He described Jews as "wicked deceivers of the American people" that have "wrapped [their] tentacles around the U.S. government" and are "deceiving and sending this nation to hell." Long after Jesse Jackson disavowed Farrakhan in 1984 as "reprehensible and morally indefensible" for describing Judaism as a "gutter religion," Ellison was defending Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam in 1995 as a role model for African-Americans, calling him "a tireless public servant of Black people, who constantly teaches self-reliance and self-examination to the Black community."

Ellison has struggled to explain his association with Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam. He has acknowledged working with the Nation of Islam for about 18 months to organize the Minnesota delegation to Farrakhan's 1995 Million Man March in Washington. However, Ellison insists that he never joined the Nation of Islam and more recently, he has held himself out as a friend of the Jewish people and of Israel. This late conversion coincided with Ellison's decision to pursue elected office in Minnesota, and an apparent realization that his association with the Nation of Islam might hurt his political fortunes. In 2006, he wrote a letter to the Jewish Community Relations Council in Minneapolis, in which he apologized for failing to "adequately scrutinize the positions" of Farrakhan and other Nation of Islam leaders. "They were and are anti-Semitic, and I should have come to that conclusion earlier than I did." In his recently released memoir "My Country, 'Tis of Thee: My Faith, My Family, Our Future," Ellison writes of Farrakhan:
"He could only wax eloquent while scapegoating other groups" and of the Nation of Islam "if you're not angry in opposition to some group of people (whites, Jews, so-called 'sellout' blacks), you don't have religion."
Ellison's voting record also does not support his claim that he has become a "friend" of Israel. He was one of only 8 Congressmen who voted against funding the Iron Dome program, developed jointly by the U.S. and Israel, which helps protect Israeli civilians from Hamas rockets. In 2009, Ellison was one of only two dozen Congressmen to vote "present" rather than vote for a non-binding resolution "recognizing Israel's right to defend itself against attacks from, reaffirming the United States' strong support for Israel, and supporting the Israeli-Palestinian peace process." And in 2010, Ellison co‐authored a letter to President Obama, calling on him to pressure Israel into opening the border with Gaza. The letter describes the blockade of the Hamas-controlled Gaza strip as "de facto collective punishment of the Palestinian residents."
Even beyond Ellison's past associations with anti-American and anti-Semitic bigotry and his troubling current voting record with regard to Israel, his appointment as head of the DNC would be a self-inflicted wound on the Democratic Party at this critical time in its history. It would move the party in the direction of left-wing extremism at a time when centrist stability is required. The world at large is experiencing a movement toward extremes, both right and left. The Democratic Party must buck that dangerous trend and move back to the center where the votes are, and where America should be.

Ellison Is Completely The Wrong Choice For Democrats--Unless They Want To Continue Being A Minority Party

ZOA: Don’t Appoint Israel-Basher Cong. Keith Ellison Chair of the Democratic National Committee

Why are ADL/Other Jewish Groups Silent About Ellison’s Real Anti-Semitism, While Wrongly Condemning Bannon? ; If Someone with Ellison's Record Were Running for Chair of Republican National Committee Would ADL Be Silent?

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN)
Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN)
Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) President Morton A. Klein released the following statement:
As a bi-partisan organization, the ZOA treasures opportunities to work with lawmakers and opinion makers on “both side of the aisle.”   Alarmingly, Congressional bipartisanship on pro-Israel issues, as well as on issues related to U.S. security, is likely to be immeasurably harmed if radical Muslim-American Congressman Keith Ellison a/k/a Keith X. Ellison a/k/a Keith Hakim a/k/a Keith Ellison Muhammed (D-Minn) becomes the new Democratic National Committee (the “DNC”) chair.  Ellison’s efforts to insert anti-Israel provisions into the 2016 Democratic platform, his statements to the press, his efforts to defeat a pro-Israel Jewish Congressman in a faraway district, and his ties to radical anti-Israel and anti-Semitic groups, coupled with his experience persuading several dozen fellow Democrats to join his anti-Israel initiatives, are of grave concern.
In 2014, Ellison was one of only 8 Congresspersons who voted against a bi-partisan bill to provide $225 million to Israel’s “Iron dome” missile defense system.   (395 representatives voted for the bill.)   (See “Video: Keith Ellison explains his vote against Iron Dome,” by Jazz Shaw, Aug. 3, 2014.)
And in 2010, Ellison spearheaded and convinced 53 other Democratic Congresspersons to sign his infamous “Gaza 54” letter to President Obama, which falsely accused Israel of humiliating and wreaking “collective punishment” on Gaza residents and demanded that President Obama should pressure Israel to lift the Gaza blockade.   Ellison’s demand would have enabled Hamas to obtain more weapons to kill and terrorize innocent Israeli civilians.  (See Hamas’ 54 Democratic Congressmen, by Daniel Greenfield, Jan. 26, 2010.)
Ellison was a devotee and worked for anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan for many years… and co-sponsored anti-Semitic speeches by Kwame Ture entitled, “Zionism, Imperialism, White Supremacy or Both.”
The anti-Israel smears in Ellison’s “Gaza 54” letter are still being used today to promote anti-Israel, anti-Semitic boycotts, divestment and sanctions (BDS), on the website of the leading BDS group in the U.S, which also asked readers to thank Congressman Ellison.
Ellison also co-authored and spearheaded a letter demanding that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech to Congress regarding the Iran deal must be delayed until after the sanctions deadline – when the visit would have been useless.  (See Rep. Keith Ellison: Postpone Netanyahu’s Speech to Congress, by Robert Naiman, Jan. 30, 2015; Copy of Ellison’s letter, entitled “Urge Speaker Boehner to Postpone Netanyahu Invitation until After the Israeli Election and Iran Sanctions Deadline,” Peace Now website; and “Delay Netanyahu’s Visit, Say 23 House Democrats,” by Edna Dumain, Roll Call, Feb. 19, 2015.)
If he becomes DNC leader, Ellison will likely be empowered to persuade even more Democratic Congresspersons to join him in actions hostile to Israel’s security and Israeli civilians’ lives – wreaking enormous damage to the prospects for future bi-partisan support for American’s closest ally in the Middle East.
Elevating Ellison to DNC Chair could help establish a stark pro-Israel/anti-Israel divide between America’s political parties.
During the same interview, Ellison also suggested that Israeli “occupation” was to blame for a “humanitarian crisis” and lack of sewage processing in Gaza – while ignoring that Israel withdrew from every inch of Gaza, and that Hamas diverts the electricity needed to operate Gaza’s sewage treatment plant to Hamas’s terrorist tunnels and operations.
And just last June, Ellison approvingly tweeted a Hebron window sign falsely accusing Israel of expropriation and portraying Israeli security precautions as “apartheid.”   The sign stated:  “CAUTION: THIS WAS TAKEN BY ISRAEL.  YOU ARE ENTERING APARTHEID.”
Incredibly, during a DemocracyNow! TV interview Ellison also made the nonsensical argument that America should not kill a leading terrorist located in Yemen, who was responsible for numerous deaths of Americans and was continuing to foment some of the worst terror attacks on Americans, because the terrorist would consider his own death to be a “reward.”  Ellison stated:  “Anwar al-Awlaki is not scared to get killed. You know, he is somebody who wants — who has delusional, fantastic, crazy dreams of being some kind of a martyr.  And so, why reward him with that?”
In addition, the Investigative Project on Terrorism (ITP) documented that Ellison received substantial campaign contributions from donors with a history of connections to the Muslim Brotherhood, the parent of designated terrorist organization Hamas; and spoke at Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) fundraising dinners and defended CAIR on the House floor.  (See “Keith Ellison’s Muslim Brotherhood Support,” IPT News, April 22, 2010.)  CAIR is an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation case, for its involvement in funneling money to Hamas.  ITP also reported that Ellison accused moderate Muslim Dr. Zuhdi Jasser of fomenting bigotry against his own people.
And just two months ago, Ellison defended the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) on the House floor.  (See “ISNA Outraged by the False Accusations Made During Thursday’s Congressional Hearing and Grateful to Congressman Keith Ellison for His Remarks,” ISNA website press release, Sept. 23, 2016.)   ISNA is another unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation case, for involvement in funneling money to Hamas.
Human rights attorney Brooke Goldstein also described “the very clear connections of Keith Ellison groups to radical Islamist groups, to anti-Semitism. . . . He has spoken at numerous Council on American Islamic Relations conferences.  This is a group that has ties to Hamas, a designated terrorist group.  He’s spoken three times for the Islamic Society of North America.  At the conference in 2008, they were handing out materials calling America a terrorist organization, and calling for the destruction of Israel and the United States.”  (“Potential DNC Chair Keith Ellison’s History of Anti-Semitism,” Nov. 17, 2016.)
Ellison also was a devotee and worked for brazen anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam for many years.  The Weekly Standard reported Ellison’s extensive involvements, including: raising funds and leading anti-police chants to support cop-killers; co-sponsoring a vicious anti-Semitic speech by Kwame Ture (Stokely Carmichael), entitled “Zionism: Imperialism, White Supremacy or Both?” while ignoring Jewish law students’ pleas to Ellison not to sponsor the speech; speaking at a public hearing on behalf of the Nation of Islam in support of a woman alleged to have said “Jews are among the most racist white people I know“; appearing on stage at a Million Man March for the Nation of Islam in 1995 with Khalid Abdul Muhammad, who reportedly said: “If words were swords, the chests of Jews, gays and whites would be pierced.”  (See Louis Farrakhan’s First Congressman,” by Scott W. Johnson, The Weekly Standard, Oct. 9, 2006.)
Jerusalem Post Senior Editor Caroline Glick noted that Ellison lied when he claimed (when he first ran for Congress) that his association with the Nation of Islam was brief.  Glick explained:  “Ellison was a long standing member of the anti-Semitic Nation of Islam. . . . Ellison’s association with the Nation of Islam dated back at least since 1989 and stretched at least until 1998.  During that period, he not only knew about the Nation of Islam’s Jew hatred, he engaged in it himself.”  (“The Ellison Challenge: The Democratic Party’s Move Towards Anti-Semitism, a move made apparent through Ellison’s rise, is one movement the Jews mustn’t lead,” by Caroline Glick, Jerusalem Post, Nov. 18, 2016.)
Ms. Glick also stated, citing the work of writer Scott Johnson, “Ellison is an anti-Semite.  He also defends cop killers.”  (Id.)
Ellison also spouted “blame President Bush” 9/11 conspiracy theories.   Ellison analogized Bush’s prosecution of the war on terror to Hitler’s rise to power, saying:  “After the Reichstag was burned, they blamed the Communists for it and it put the leader of that country [Hitler] in a position where he could basically have authority to do whatever he wanted.”   This reportedly even led the Anti-Defamation League to demand that Ellison must retract his remarks, saying: “[Ellison’s] comments comparing the rise of Nazism in the aftermath of the burning of the Reichstag to the War on Terror in the aftermath of 9/11 is outrageous and offensive to all Americans.”  (See Compare and Contrast: The Reichstag Fire and 9/11,” by Matt Snyders, City Pages, July 19, 2007.)
Where are the ADL and other Jewish groups like some in the Reform Movement that profess to care about anti-Semitism and bigotry now?  Why are they silent about Ellison’s frightening anti-Israel, anti Semitic record? Yet, they are wrongly screaming about Trump aide Stephen Bannon’s alleged anti-Semitism. If someone with Ellison’s record were running for Chair of the Republican National Committee would ADL be silent??
Ellison is also likely to use the tremendous power and funds that would be available to him as DNC chairman to help elect anti-Israel Democrats and defeat pro-Israel Democratic Congresspersons.   Ellison has already demonstrated that he is willing to go to enormous lengths to defeat pro-Israel Democrats.  In 2012, Ellison traveled across the country, raised funds and spoke at mosques in New Jersey, urging Arab-American residents of New Jersey to defeat pro-Israel Democratic Jewish Congressman Steve Rothman.  (See Democrats Purge Pro-Israel Congressman,” by Adam Kredo, Free Beacon, June 6, 2012)
JNS article reported that NORPAC Chairman (and ZOA Board Member) Dr. Ben Chouake stated that he fears that if Ellison is elected chair of the DNC, “one of his priorities will be to pull the party away from Israel” and that Ellison represents “the fringe of the Democratic Party, not the center, and would  make it even harder for the party to have broad appeal,” and that “Rabbi Menachem Genack of Englewood, New Jersey, a prominent Jewish supporter of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, said [that electing Ellison as DNC chair] . . . would ‘accelerate the process’ of pulling the Democratic Party away from its traditional pro-Israel positions.”  (Id.
Similarly, Democratic New York Assemblyman Dov Hikind stated that Ellison “is the most radical candidate imaginable, someone who represents the extreme left wing of the party, which is why he’s being promoted by Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and J Street—in other words, Ellison is being backed by all the wrong people if you care about Israel. . . .  If Israel has to depend on support from the Ellisons of the world, it would be in serious trouble.”  (Id.)
In sum, Congressman Keith Ellison’s Anti-Israel positions and anti Semitic record are too divisive and dangerous to appoint him to head the DNC. ZOA urges Senator Chuck Schumer and others to take a strong stance against Ellison.

Israel Prepares For War. What Else Is Being Done?

Iron Dome Gets Mystery Upgrade as Israel Prepares for Future War

“Incline Thine ear unto me, deliver me speedily; be Thou to me a rock of refuge, even a fortress of defence, to save me.” (Psalms 31:3)
Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system has been successfully upgraded, announced the Defense Ministry last week.
According to a statement by the ministry, the unspecified upgrades were meant to “widen the capacity and improve the performance” of the system. The Defense Ministry noted that Israel now faces  “an unprecedented array of threats”, such as mortars and long-range missiles from multiple directions.
The Iron Dome was designed to target incoming rockets from Gaza at a range of between four and 70 kilometers (about 2.5 to 43.5 miles). It targets only rockets deemed to be headed towards sensitive or populated areas, and has an overall success rate of 85 percent.
During Operation Protective Edge, over 4,500 projectiles were fired at Israel from Gaza. Of these, the Iron Dome system targeted 799, successfully diverting or destroying 735, according to a Channel 2 report.

Learning from the experience, Hamas focused its efforts in the later days of the conflict on short-range missiles, which the Iron Dome had trouble targeting.
While working on developing the David’s Sling, a longer-range defense system, Israel is also working to improve the existing system.
These improvements come amid growing concerns for a future conflict with Hezbollah which security officials believe would open with a blitz attack. The IDF is preparing for the likelihood that such a conflict would be far more devastating than last summer’s operation.
“The writing is on the wall and the disappointment will come,” IAF Commander Maj. Gen. Amir Eshel said shortly after Operation Protective Edge last summer. In the next war, he said, “we will not see the same results as Operation Protective Edge.”

Gaza Rockets Start Flying Again. Are They Hamas Or ISIS?

Rockets Fired from Gaza Late Wednesday; IAF Strikes Back

“For I will defend this city to save it, for Mine own sake, and for My servant David’s sake.” (Isaiah 37:35)
Sirens sounded in southern Israel for the second time in eight days as rockets were fired from Gaza late Wednesday evening. At least two rockets were fired, with at least one landing in an open area in the Sdot Negev Regional Council, reported Ynet. No one was injured.
The rockets were fired from al-Shati in the northern Gaza strip, near Gaza City, in the area that was once the Jewish settlement of Netzarim.
Code Red sirens were heard ahead of the rockets in the Netivot, Ashkelon, Bnei Shimon Regional Council and Sdot Negev Regional Council areas.
Sdot Negev Regional Council head Tamir Idan told Ynet he was in contact with the IDF, “in order to see whether we should prepare for an escalation, or this was an isolated incident.”
Each escalation must be met with force,” Idan added. “I hope this time the IDF strikes in a way the other side understands this front cannot be opened. The residents hope for vacation time this summer, and not like last year.”
MK Haim Yellin (Yesh Atid), the former head of the Eshkol Regional Council, supported this position. “The rocket fire cannot continue,” he said.
“Terror must be struck forcefully and we should not settle for bombing some sand dunes, otherwise we will face pointless wars every summer,” he continued.
Israel’s air force responded swiftly to the rocket fire. In the early hours of Thursday morning, the IDF reported, the IAF struck at least three Hamas targets in Gaza.
“The IDF views the incident gravely,” said the military in a statement. Referring to the ruling party of Gaza, the statement continued, “The Hamas terrorist organization is the address and the one on whom the responsibility falls.”
A radical Islamist Salafist group which considers Hamas too liberal has claimed responsibility for the rocket fire, posting on Twitter that it was retaliating for the death of one of its leaders this week at the hands of Hamas. The group calling itself the Omar Brigades added, “We are continuing with our jihad against the Jews, the enemies of God, and no one will be able to deter us.”
Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon said Thursday morning that the source of the rocketfire was irrelevant. “Even if last night’s shooting at Israel was by errant global jihadist groups who wish to challenge Hamas by firing at us, we consider Hamas responsible for what happens in the Gaza Strip and we will not tolerate attempts to harm our citizens,” he said.
Meanwhile, Yellin opined that the ultimate solution to the problem would be diplomatic, not military. “Operation Protective Edge ended without a diplomatic agreement – this is a strategic error which must be rectified. We must create a diplomatic mechanism including the US, the European Union and moderate Arab countries, which would set the condition that the Gaza reconstruction would not happen without the Strip first being demilitarized.”
