Has Kathy Griffin Really Gone Unhinged?

Kathy Griffin Launches Vile Attack on Ivanka over Kate Spade’s Suicide

It’s getting clearer just who the crazy one here really is.

Washed-up “entertainer” Kathy Griffin is best known to the American public for the incredibly distasteful picture she posted of herself last year holding a mock severed headrepresenting President Donald Trump

She has also insinuated the president’s sons are rapists, and supported Canadian comedian Samantha Bee’s vile insult of Ivanka Trump while chatting with the harpies on ABC’s “The View.”

But Griffin’s own attack on Ivanka this week – in response to the first daughter’s thoughtful Twitter post on the suicide of fashion designer Kate Spade — was beyond the bounds of rational behavior. Even for a nut job like Griffin, it was way too far.

Spade was found dead Tuesday morning in her Manhattan apartment, according to CNN. A suicide note was found at the scene, but its contents were not made public.

Any suicide is tragic, of course, but Spade’s was particularly noteworthy. Starting out as a journalist in the fashion world, she had made an international name for herself by founding a hugely popular fashion line that centered on women’s handbags but included a range of fashion products, according to Biography.com.

As word of the death spread, Ivanka Trump – who has built her own brand of success in the fashion world — took to Twitter to express her sadness, and urge any readers who might be in danger of harming themselves to seek help.

“Kate Spade’s tragic passing is a painful reminder that we never truly know another’s pain or the burden they carry,” she wrote. “If you are struggling with depression and contemplating suicide, please, please seek help.”

That’s about as unobjectionable a tweet as has even been posted. But for a borderline-lunatic like Griffin, it was a red flag to charge.

Using the word “feckless” no doubt to bring to mind Bee’s vicious words last week, Griffin slammed Ivanka for … apparently just for being Ivanka.

“You’re all talk feckless, you’re all talk,” Griffin wrote.

In another tweet she expanded on that: “If someone is feckless does that mean they have no feck? So when it comes to Ivanka can I say she’s all talk and no feck?”

Now, a cynic might suggest Griffin was simply using the untimely death of a successful woman to grow her own social media following. (The same kind of cynic might suspect Griffin wore an outfit of Spade designs Tuesday night while accepting an award in Los Angeles just to get her name mentioned in stories that would show up under “Kate Spade” internet searches.)

But other than using a tragic death as an opportunity to exercise some mean-girl bullying muscles, and opportunistically try to boost her own sagging career, it was difficult to understand what Griffin might have been talking about.

The U.K. Daily Mail speculated that she was referring to President Donald Trump’s 2019 budget proposal, which would “slash funding for the National Institute of Mental Health by 30 percent.”

Griffin is clearly not someone playing with a full deck, so it’s understandable that she would be sensitive to mental health issues. But even with that, the idea of attacking Ivanka doesn’t make sense.

Presidents don’t pass budgets, Congress does. If Griffin has a problem with federal spending when it comes to mental health, she can take it up with her local representative (assuming she knows who that is) or she can take it up with Congress as a whole.

In any case, lashing out at Ivanka Trump for apparently heartfelt advice to those suffering from depression is simply unhinged.

Maybe Griffin’s the one who should be seeking help. Before it’s too late.

Samantha Bee Confirms Her Apology Was BS

The evening after apologizing her calling Ivanka Trump a “feckless c***” and asking her to seduce her own father to change immigration policy, TBS’ Samantha Bee demonstrated wholeheartedly that her apology was meaningless. As expected.

Bee was slated to receive an award on Thursday night from the Television Academy. The awards show actually closed itself to the media thanks to the blowback over Bee’s comments, but her speech leaked anyway. She stated:

Every week I strive to show the world as I see it, unfiltered. Sometimes I should probably have a filter. I accept that. I take it seriously when I get it right and I do take responsibility when I get it wrong … we spent the day wrestling with the repercussions of one bad word, when we all should have spent the day incensed that as a nation we are wrenching children from their parents and treating people legally seeking asylum as criminals.

So, in other words, she was sorry she used the bad word but only because it undermined her larger point, which was that Ivanka Trump was a “feckless c***” who should have seduced her father to change immigration policy.

This is just more evidence that our culture of forced apologies is deeply stupid. There are some apologies that are obviously well-meant — like this one, for example. But most of the time, apologies are just attempts to escape condemnation, not truly felt. Perhaps there’s something to the idea that we, as Americans, should attempt to uphold certain taboos by at least enforcing a line. But the question is whether pro forma apologies ought to be accepted as bringing those who violate a taboo back within that orbit. It’s obvious that our societal acceptance of apologies varies based on the target. Roseanne apologized; nobody cared. Bee apologized; everybody basically nodded along. The chances are far higher that Roseanne’s apology was more genuine than Bee’s, in all actuality. But accepting apologies seems to break along partisan lines.

In any case, the apology itself from Bee was always suspect. It’s just amazing to watch as the entire media ignore the fact that Bee has now admitted, within hours, that the apology was prevarication.

So, the World's Worst Comedian™ and social justice warrior Samantha Bee called Ivanka Trump a “feckless c***” on national television, and then apologized after advertisers began dropping her. Then TBS, her network, apologized as well. Here were their respective apologies:

A few thoughts.

First off, these apologies are faker than a $3 bill. Roseanne Barr’s vile comments were unscripted and off-the-cuff; she’s been making nutty and vile statements for years on venues like Twitter. But Bee’s statements were scripted, taped, and then aired. At no point did anyone on Bee’s staff, including Bee, think that perhaps her comments might have crossed a line. Bee regrets nothing except, perhaps, getting caught. The same holds for TBS.

All of which demonstrates the full-blown stupidity of the apology culture in which we now live. Barr apologized and people ignored it, but there’s a good shot that her apology was more genuine than Bee’s. When Laura Ingraham apologized for the supremely mild sin of calling Parkland survivor David Hogg whiny, the entire Left said her apology was fake. There’s no reason for us to believe Bee’s apology, or TBS’s.

With that said, we must answer three questions. First, should Bee’s show be boycotted? Second, should Bee’s advertisers be boycotted? Third, should Bee be fired pre-emptively?

There’s no moral reason not to boycott Bee’s show. She made this statement on her show. Her staff wrote the show. The network aired the show. If you don’t want to watch Bee’s garbage show, more power to you — although I’d tend to think that those likely to boycott her show over the “c***” comment were already ignoring her show in the first place. Her ratings will likely rise thanks to her supposed audacity.

As far as Bee’s advertisers, secondary boycotts are a nasty tactic. Advertisers shouldn’t become the repository of public anger as a general rule — advertisers are simply looking to put their products before audiences. The only reason to boycott Bee’s advertisers is simply to demonstrate to Bee and her cultural cohorts that the Media Matters boycott tactics they so enjoy can be applied equally against them. Mutually assured destruction suggests that informing advertisers that the sword swings both ways might lead advertisers to simply learn to ignore blowback — which, in the long run, would be a good thing.

Finally, should Bee be pre-emptively fired? Probably not. That’s because Bee says similarly awful things every single night. There was no falsehood in advertising here. Bee is Bee. She’s egregiously unfunny and superfluously degrading. A network should only fire a performer or a star because (1) the product they put on air is different than the product for which they contracted; or (2) the blowback from the audience is so severe as to mandate a cancellation. Neither is true in this case.

And that says something about Bee’s audience. While much of the media claimed that Roseanne’s comments reflected her audience, that’s obviously untrue — if it had, the audience would have rebelled against the cancellation. ABC wouldn’t have had to fear losing ratings, since Roseanne’s fans would have just kept watching. But Roseanne fans likely would have tuned out thanks to Roseanne’s comments.

But when it comes to Bee, TBS doesn’t have to worry about losing ratings in any serious way. Which suggests that Bee’s fans are actually far more deplorable than fans of Roseanne. They’re fine with her comments. Just as Bee was. Just as TBS was.

So before we hear about how all Trump supporters are secret racists who cheered Roseanne Barr’s comments, let’s hear a little bit about what Samantha Bee supporters think of her comments. Let’s see whether they keep watching, or whether they provide her with consequences.

Jason Jones is not only a former "correspondent" for the left-wing Daily Show,
he is also husband to Samantha Bee, one of the leftist leaders of the so-called
Resistance Movement against President Trump. Oh, and Jones doesn’t want
the city of New York to move his children's school to a location that would
make it more accessible to poor, black kids.

Both Samantha Bee and Jason Jones are wealthy and very white.

According to the Civil Rights Project, New York is not the Liberal Utopia it is
advertised to be, at least if you are not white and wealthy. Just like when
Democrats ran the South, Democrat-run New York has managed to create
the most racially-segregated schools in the country:

New York has the most segregated schools in the country: in 2009,

black and Latino students in the state had the highest concentration

in intensely-segregated public schools (less than 10% white enrollment), the lowest exposure to white students, and the most uneven

distribution with white students across schools. Heavily impacting

these state rankings is New York City, home to the largest and

one of the most segregated public school systems in the nation.

Slate reports that one of the reasons for this is that in the Upper West Side of
Manhattan, the most left-wing part of this left-wing state, there is never-ending
resistance — if you'll pardon the use of that word — to opening up predominantly-
white schools to under-privileged, minority students.

In other words: these rich, white left-wingers want their schools to remain rich and
white.

The current Upper West Side focus is on P.S. 452, which, according to Slate,
"has a lopsided enrollment, with a population that’s three-quarters white and
Asian, with only 13% of kids qualifying for free lunch, in a district that’s 43%
white and Asian and 48% low-income."

This public school is already over-crowded and a proposal has been made to
move it just 16 blocks away.

There is just one problem.

At this location, the school, which is currently one of the best public schools in
the city, would be near a number of large housing projects. The move, then,
could result in the end of the segregation many of these parents so desire.
A lot more poor, black students might start attending.

Samantha Bee's husband is not only fighting this move, the former correspondent
is — get this — urging parents who agree with him not to talk to the media:

and former Daily Show correspondent Jason Jones, who’s married

to Samantha Bee. "To portray any opposition as classist or racist is as bad as it can get," Jones told WNYC. And elsewhere: "We are not divided,” he said at a public hearing about the proposal, “we are absolutely united in wanting what's best for our children," then encouraged fellow parents not to talk to the press about the controversy.

Because in Manhattan past is precedent, Slate believes these rich, white
parents will eventually win the day and the school will stay where it is.

Even though it is the only hope many have, what we have here is even more
proof that the Left does not want to educate poor, black kids. Think about it:
1) These limousine liberals refuse to integrate these kids into their public
schools. 2) These terrible people also do not want to give these kids vouchers
to go to a private school.

And it is all about power.

Keep 'em poor. Keep 'em angry. Keep 'em in despair. And most importantly…

Keep 'em voting for the very same Democrats who keep 'em down.

P.S. Think about how selfish you have to be to fight against giving poor kids a
shot at the Golden Ticket to an education. Now think about how selfish you
have to be to oppose such a thing when you can afford to send your own kids
to private schools. These progressive millionaires not only want free education,
they want to deprive others, children no less, of the same.
