Is This Religious Freedom Or Brutal Mutilation?

Cutting Young Girls, (Female Genital Mutilation), Isn’t Religious Freedom

Redacted from an article by Kristina Arriaga
Wall Street Journal
Aug. 25, 2017
Earlier this year, a 7-year-old girl from Minnesota entered an examination room at a clinic just outside of Detroit. Thinking this was a regular visit, she allowed the doctor to remove her pants and underwear and place her on the examination table. Suddenly, while two women in the clinic held her hands, the physician spread her legs and cut her clitoris. Two months later she told investigators the pain ran down to her ankles and she could barely walk.
In April Dr. Jumana Nagarwala, who allegedly performed the procedure, was charged with conspiracy to commit female genital mutilation. Dr. Fakhruddin Attar, the owner of the since-closed clinic, was also charged.
Investigators suspect Ms. Nagarwala may be involved in 100 other cases, and the trial starts in October. This marks the first time a female genital mutilation case is going to federal court. The lawyers for the Michigan physician will argue the girl “underwent a benign religious procedure.” This is a dangerous hypocrisy with far-reaching consequences.
Female genital mutilation has been illegal in the U.S. since 1996. Yet a 2012 study in the journal Public Health Reports estimates that more than 500,000 girls in the U.S. have undergone the procedure or are at risk.
These girls live all over the country, with larger Muslim concentrations in California, New York and Minnesota. Most go through this process in secret, and only 25 states have laws that criminalize the procedure. In Maine, the American Civil Liberties Union has opposed a bill to do so on the ground that “the risk of mutilation isn’t worth expanding Maine’s criminal code.”
Female genital mutilation, most often performed on girls under 13, has serious medical and psychological repercussions. The cutting ranges from a clitoridectomy, partial to total removal of the clitoris, to infibulation, removal of all the external genitalia. The latter is so severe that “healing” often involves binding the girl from ankle to waist until the scar tissue closes. This kind of cutting leaves an opening the width of a pencil for urination, menstruation, sex and childbirth.
In 2015 a U.N. official estimated that 20% of parents take their daughters to physicians but the rest use improvised sharp objects.
This spring, an Ethiopian man in Georgia was deported for performing female genital mutilation with a pair of scissors on his 2-year-old daughter. Parents fearing prosecution sometimes take their girls out of the country for “vacation cutting.”
A report from Unicef suggests at least 200 million girls and women alive today, in 30 countries, have undergone some form of it. (The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, of which I am vice chairwoman, does not take an official position on female genital mutilation.)
Whether this practice is religious or cultural is debatable. In the Michigan case, the victims belong to an Indian Shiite Muslim sect called the Dawoodi Bohra, whose members refer to the clitoris as a sinful lump of flesh.
The cutting, khatna, is considered a religious observance to prevent girls from becoming promiscuous. Yet female genital mutilation predates Christianity and Islam. No religious text requires it. Many imams have issued fatwas against the practice and Christian leaders like Pope Francis have denounced it.
The physician’s lawyers announced they will craft a religious-freedom defense. And they may be astute enough to get away with it. The all-star team includes constitutional law scholar and O.J. Simpson lawyer Alan Dershowitz, along with Mayer Morganroth, (Shame on them. I don’t think they will find this procedure within their own Hebrew bible – Not that that matters to them jsk ) who represented assisted-suicide champion Dr. Jack Kevorkian for more than 15 years. They are funded by an international Muslim organization called Dawat-e-Hadiyah.
The lawyers must know they are entering dangerous territory, at least in terms of public relations. After coming under criticism for defending female genital mutilation, Mr. Dershowitz suggested during a June interview that pricking the girls’ clitoris would be a better way to fulfill a “religious legal obligation.” This is absurd. There is no such obligation.
The physician’s lawyers have not only put these girls at even greater risk, they have tainted the religious freedom of all Americans with their specious arguments.
Religious freedom is a bedrock right that ensures all can live according to their convictions. It also allows for the existence of charities providing Americans with an equivalent of $1.2 trillion annually in food, shelter, medical care and more. It is not a tool to protect harmful practices like female genital mutilation.
These girls are among the most vulnerable in society. For their sake, Americans must raise their voices against this detestable practice. Doing what is right may also yield an important social good: the restoration of religious freedom to its proper place in American culture and jurisprudence.

Muslims Bring Their Barbaric Habits To Germany

‘HUGE INCREASE’ IN FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION IN GERMANY

Muslim migrants bringing barbaric butchery to West

Germany experienced a sharp increase in the number of women who have been subjected to genital mutilation, which is illegal in the country, an advocacy group has said.
There are now more than 58,000 women affected by FGM, 10,000 more than the year before.
The estimate was published Tuesday by the women’s rights organization, Terre des Femmes, who said the increase was largely due to the influx of migrants from countries where female genital mutilation (FGM) is practiced.
“Due to the arrival of migrants from countries such as Eritrea, Somalia and Iraq, we have recorded a huge increase in the number of affected women and threatened girls,” said spokeswoman Charlotte Weil to DPA Tuesday, as cited by The Local.
Furthermore, there is currently more than 13,000 girls in Germany who are at risk of being forced into the procedure by their families, a 4,000 increase over last year, the group said.
“We don’t know of any cases where a girl was mutilated in Germany. It either takes place on a holiday back in their homeland, or during a visit to a practitioner in a city such as Paris or Amsterdam,” Weil added.
FGM is illegal in Germany, but is tolerated in many African countries as well as some in Asia. More than 200 million women worldwide are affected by female genital mutilation, according to Unicef.
While culturally entrenched in some countries, FGM is widely criticized by many health professionals and rights groups. The procedure may cause health problems depending on how exactly it is performed and has no health benefits.
Weil advised teachers to pay attention to young girls in their classes, especially if they share plans to go home for a “big festival.”
Some 280,000 migrants fled to Germany from their war torn and conflict ridden countries in 2016 – a decline on the 890,000 that arrived the previous year, according to Reuters.

Maine Legislators Must Agree With Female Genital Mutilation Since They Don't Want To Make It A Crime

Democrats Block Vote That Would Make Female Genital Mutilation A Crime

5
Diversity is great. Immigration is great. Those things have made America as great as it is today.

That being said, there are some parts of certain cultures that we simply shouldn’t allow immigrants to bring to our shores. Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is one of those things.
For those of you who don’t know what FGM is, you’re lucky.
It was recently discovered that female genital mutilation no longer just happens across the ocean, it’s happening right here in America. Not a lot of people were exactly happy about this, and hoped to pass a bill in Maine that would criminalize the act of female circumcision .
Democrats, naturally, had to oppose the passage of the bill. One refused to vote for it because she didn’t believe that it was happening in her state.
Okay? Then what’s the problem with making it a crime at the state level?
“I do not believe that it is happening in the state of Maine. I truly do not believe that,” said Rep. Lois Galgay Reckitt, D-South Portland. “And I believe if it was happening, it would be prosecuted vigorously by the federal (laws) or by the abuse statutes in this state.”
So I guess what I don’t understand is why the vote ended up 76-71. How can 76 people oppose criminalizing the act of mutilation of a woman’s genitals? Isn’t that something that feminists should be all over? After all, it would be someone taking away a woman’s control over her body, so why are they for that?
You have to wonder how any human being in their right mind could possibly vote against this. That baffles me! Maybe Democrats aren’t as supportive of women and children as they think they are. At least not until a more oppressed class comes along. This is so disgusting.

Female Genital Mutilation Case Grows

Second Detroit doctor, wife charged in female genital mutilation case

Three now accused of performing illegal procedure

(WXYZ) -
Federal prosecutors have arrested and charged another doctor and his wife in connection to the female genital mutilation of young girls.
Dr. Fakhruddin Attar, 53, and his wife Farida Attar, 50, are accused of Conspiracy to Commit Female Genital Mutilation and Aiding and Abetting Female Genital Mutilation. The two were arrested Friday morning and will be in in federal court at 1 p.m.
The illegal procedures allegedly took place at Dr. Fakhruddin Attar's Livonia clinic, which was raided Friday morning.
The charges were announced after a Henry Ford Hospital emergency room doctor was arrested and charged in connection to performing the illegal practice. Dr. Attar and his wife are accused of conspiring with Dr. Jumana Nagarwala, 44, of Northville. Nagarwala was arrested on April 12.
According to the latest criminal complaint, Dr. Attar, his wife and Dr. Nagarwala conspired to perform the procedure on girls ages six to eight years old at a medical clinic in Livonia.
VIEW THE CRIMINAL COMPLAINT BELOW:

Some of the children were brought from out of state for the illegal procedure. Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is considered the complete removal or partial removal of the clitoris, known as a clitoridectomy. FGM is internationally recognized as a violation of the human rights of women and girls.
Some consider FGM as a religious and cultural practice. The purpose of this illegal practice is to suppress female sexuality in order to reduce sexual pleasure.
In the criminal affidavit, Nagarwala performed FGM on girls who were approximately 7 years old at the time at a clinic in Livonia.
The investigation revealed that in one particular case, a 7-year-old was brought by her family from Minnesota. An investigation into phone records revealed their location. The child was interviewed on April 10. She stated that she was brought to Detroit for "special girls trip."
The child victim also stated that she said she had to go to the doctor "to get the germs out." Upon a medical exam on April 11, a doctor determined that the child's genitals had been altered or removed. The child identified Dr. Nagarwala as the doctor who performed the procedure.
The affidavit also alleges that there are Michigan victims as well.
“According to the complaint, despite her oath to care for her patients, Dr. Nagarwala is alleged to have performed horrifying acts of brutality on the most vulnerable victims,” said Acting Assistant Attorney General Blanco. “The Department of Justice is committed to stopping female genital mutilation in this country, and will use the full power of the law to ensure that no girls suffer such physical and emotional abuse.”
“Female genital mutilation constitutes a particularly brutal form of violence against women and girls. It is also a serious federal felony in the United States. The practice has no place in modern society and those who perform FGM on minors will be held accountable under federal law,” stated Acting United States Attorney Daniel Lemisch.
“The allegations detailed in today’s criminal complaint are disturbing. The FBI, along with its law enforcement partners, are committed to doing whatever necessary to bring an end to this barbaric practice and to ensure no additional children fall victim to this procedure”, said Special Agent in Charge David Gelios.
“The allegations against the defendant in this investigation are made even more deplorable, given the defendant’s position as a trusted medical professional in the community,” said Francis. “My sincere hope is that these charges will give support to those who have allegedly suffered both physically and emotionally.
The FBI believes there could be more victims. They have set up a tip line for anyone who has any information pertaining to the illegal practices of FGM or Nagarwala. Please call 1-800-CALL-FBI (225-5984) or file an e-tip at FBI.gov/FGM.
Henry Ford issued the following statement:
The alleged criminal activity did not occur at any Henry Ford facility. We would never support or condone anything related to this practice.  The doctor has immediately been placed on administrative leave.

Bill Maher Blasts Liberals For Their Protecting Muslim While Going Crazy Over Minor Insignificant Words Or Acts Done By Christians, Jews And Non-religious People.

In Six Minutes, an Atheist Tears Apart the Way Liberals Defend Muslim Atrocities ‘In the Name of Multiculturalism’

He took a picture of a teenager’s obscene act with a Jesus statue to make this point: ”Liberal Western culture is not just different — it’s better.”
Bill Maher, host of HBO’s “Real Time,” has been slamming Islam — and the liberal tendency to protest any criticism of Islamic culture — recently, and on Friday night he continued the assault.
“President Obama keeps on insisting that ISIS is not Islamic,” Maher noted, adding with a smirk, “Well, maybe they don’t practice the Muslim faith the same way he does.”
Maher contrasted the way liberals talk about American conservatives with the way they won’t talk about Muslim nations’ deplorable standards for women:
We hear a lot about the Republican ‘War on Women.’ It’s not cool Rush Limbaugh called somebody a slut. Okay. But Saudi women can’t vote, or drive, or hold a job, or leave the house without a man. Overwhelming majorities in every Muslim country say a wife is always obliged to obey her husband. That all seems like a bigger issue than evangelical Christian bakeries refusing to make gay wedding cakes.
He also had stern words for Yale’s atheist organization, which was among the groups that complained when Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a woman who was born in Somalia, raised Muslim and sufferedtraditional genital mutilation, was brought to campus to share her critical-of-Islam views.
“You’re atheists, you should be attacking religion, not siding with the people who hold women down and violate them, which apparently you will defend in the name of multiculturalism,” Maher seethed.
Maher also issued a general challenge to all liberals who vigorously police the words and actions of Jews, Christians and non-religious people — but who won’t criticize Islam.
“If we’re giving no quarter to intolerance,” Maher asked, “shouldn’t we be starting with the mutilators and the honor killers?”
