Another Day, Another Hate Crime
Hoax on Campus
At Kean University in New Jersey, administrators and
students were horrified when an anonymous twitter
account started sending messages threatening the
lives of black students. With racial tensions at an all
time high, it's easy to see why. But upon investigation,
the police got to the bottom of who was sending the
tweets- a black student activist!
Kayla-Simone McKelvey, who graduated from Kean in May, has been now been
charged with creating a false public alarm in the third degree.
Union County prosecutor Grace H. Park stated that McKelvey left an anti-racism
student rally in November to go to a campus library computer where she
crafted a now-suspended account “@keanuagainstblk” and began tweeting
violently racist rhetoric.
“kean university twitter against blacks is for everyone who hates
blacks.”
“i will kill every black male and female at keen university.”
Other tweets went so far as to mention a bomb on campus.
Park noted that McKelvey then returned to the rally to publicize the tweets.
Campus security was beefed up in response and the administration gave
students permission to opt out attending their classes over the threats.
The mindset of those who engage in such actions is perplexing. If the environment at our
universities is as racist and toxic as they would have us believe, why dio they need to
invent incidences of racial hatred? Surely they'd be commonplace. McKelvy will likely have
plenty of time to contemplate this in the clink.
