Apologies for this off-topic comment, but I am hoping you will post something about the Pennsylvania supreme court decision on voter ID law.

Their directive to the lower court reads as follows…
"In this regard, the court is to consider whether the procedures being used for deployment of the cards comport with the requirement of liberal access which the General Assembly attached to the issuance of PennDOT identification cards. If they do not, or if the Commonwealth Court is not still convinced in its predictive judgment that there will be no voter disenfranchisement arising out of the Commonwealth’s implementation of a voter identification requirement for purposes of the upcoming election, that court is obliged to enter a preliminary injunction."
They have already said that the PennDOT procedure violates the law as written, because it does not provide "liberal access" as specified in the law. That is, the law does not require birth certificate, social security card, and two proofs of residence in order to get the photo ID. The law was attempting to stay within the bounds of the constitution, whereas PennDOT apparently feels no obligation to follow the General Assembly or the constitution. The critics are blaming the Republicans for the voters who will be disenfranchised by this procedure, but they should be blaming PennDOT. Likewise, Republicans should be blaming PennDOT for violating their law and rendering it unconstitutional (if that is the final outcome). Agree?
